@brasz1 yep also do that when they make certain sounds, i had a yellow collared mini macaw whos eyes use to do exactly the same, even the same color, i love all macaws, they are fantastic birds
Peanut is so adorable. I'm so glad he found a new home. Glad to hear there are such great organizations like you that take in these often "throw away" animals. As a parrot lover and owner, I see too often those who buy birds because they can talk or are super pretty and then they bring them home and then find out they are lot's of work, can be loud and messy. It's sad really.
That is called "pinning" or "flashing" Parrots tend to do that when they are excited about something. Peanut loves getting attention and talking, so his eyes flashed when he spoke/whistled because it made him happy.
When parrots pin or flash, you do have to be careful, because in some parrots, that can signal they're overly excited and may be quick to bite.
Peanut is adorable. All the Macaws can be so entertaining. I have a Severe Macaw (Luna) who I adore, but she is such a spoiled brat, and I mean SPOILED. I think if I ever get another bird I will get a Hahn's. I have two lovebirds (adopted from a despairing environment) and two cockatiels, so I'm pretty loaded up here at the 'bird jungle'! ;)
We are a nonprofit parrot rescue organization. He was purchased by someone who then discovered that parrots don't make good pets in most homes because they are wild animals. He was surrendered to us, and we found him a home that understands mini macaws.
i SOOOO want one, i'd name him Jasper and teach him to be a little cuttle bird with me and women, but be a little butt when he's with guys hehe, i'll call him "Daddy's little womanizer" ^_^
They can be, but it depends on the owner. They are very intelligent and have a macaw personality. Peanut was surrendered because his previous owners (who are great people) were intimidated by him and he'd constantly bite them -- they had scars all over their hands. But, in the right home, with people who understand parrots, he's doing great. The problem is that parrots are wild animals and not well suited to living in captivity. Most people aren't willing to put up with the mess, noise, etc

kismikola 1 year ago 4
@kismikola
Yes, we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit parrot rescue organization. We generally take in between 300-400 parrots every year and find them new homes.
We wish there wasn't a need for parrot rescues, but parrots do not make good pets for most people -- they are wild animals.
Peanut found a new home several years ago and is doing really well.
