We never did open up the enclosures so they could live together, we decided they would be better off just having a larger enclosure each. Shatia has actually passed away since this was filmed, she died in her sleep at age 16 :(
The biggest scare I got in my life was from a lynx. I was in russia camping near Ural mountains. I went to pick some wood and all of a sudden I got this weird feeling that i was watched. I looked up and saw one of those things up on a tree staring at me. Trust me it wasn't a pleasant feeling.
i slowly walked away..... i am not sure if there were any documented attacks on humans, but i wasn't going to test my luck. I am still not sure - are they dangerous to humans? I've heard from hunters that they could easily kill large deer, which would 2x my weight....
That was definitely the best thing to do! No they aren't dangerous to humans all cats would rather do anything but fight, I'm sure they could be if there was no alternative, but I have never heard of any attacks on people. Its true they can take down full grown deer though!
what do you think? lol i slowly walked away. Do you know if they are dangerous to humans? I've heard that they can take down deers, which would make me a fair target based purely on size. I hope i looked weird enough to it that it just didn't bother.
Sounds like fun, I'm english too but have been at Big Cat Rescue enjoying the Florida sun for some time now. That is very cool that you have Iberian Lynx on your reserve, as there is thought to be less than 100 left in the wild and even better that she as kittens, hope they will survive. What is the name of your reserve?
Are you the daughter´s too the pair which work in the reserve with the few Ib. Lynx there´s left ? Do you have a sis or bro ?
Maybe i´ve missed a mail, but i usually get one if a cup´s is born, cause i`ve been involved in a fertility program for these "cat´s". I know that only is 3 Ib.Lynx "families"are left in the reserve, so it would bee great news if they got cups again, even thou some try mix domestic cats and Ib.Lynx to stop extinction.
we have wild lynx in norway.. we call them gaupe. have seen lots of trail in snow.. finland even have a snowmobile brand with the name Lynx. 60min drive to finland from where i live. 3hour to nortcape.. wild life is outside my door. have fox and "hare" (that rabit like animal) running free in my garden...
The reason we have a "no touch" policy with our volunteers/interns is simple. One false move and someone gets bitten could mean that we get sued, we lose the cat, the cat gets put down. And NO ones needs to touch the cat is worth its life. The cats are given logs to rub on and natural environments. Thanks for watching the video.
I agree with your policy. Why do humans always feel animals are only here on this planet to be our pets? It's a wild animal, the unfortunate thing as that someone once tried to make a pet of it and now it has to live in a shelter.
@UltimateHomer nothing unfortunate about it at all, the desire to tame animals is how we ended up with farming, cattle, horses, and any other domestic Animal.

@mako7828 Well, try hitching a plow to a Lynx and see how that's works. Better yet, try milking it.

You're foolish. I would never want to touch a big cat. It's not worth getting my hand bitten off.
Nominay 4 years ago 3
you should never "pet" a big cat. you'd get your arm gnawed off. and it wouldnt be the animals fault, it would be yours.
GO BIG CAT RESCUE! XD
