Yea that's right. This tech is using the same Screw Driver's I use the exact ones. On this disassembly of the mac air, hes using the 261 /PH1 x60 or 260 /3,0 x60 by wiha (german company) yeap Ive used the same set for years :-) very nice precision screw drivers!!
Right you are, TW! Though it was really just a rhetorical question. A G3 iBook has way more components than a MacBook Air, but I'd take the Air any day. (c;
ok thank god theres someone who can help me do u have like branches near like vista california? w8 so ur like gonna replace the whole analog stick right?
For us, the point is to find out what parts an labor will be involved in the repairs that we offer - for everyone else, it's a fun way to satisfy curiosity!
probably don't want to have a Mac Air if you carry alot of stuff with you. is gonna crash the screen... if any thing i think the Eee Pc take the lead in this...
The MacBook Air is a LOT stronger than it looks. It's made from veru durable aluminium instead of cheap thin plastic like the EEE PC's. Also it has more power than the EEE PC's because it's a full laptop instead of a netbook, it's just much thinner for easier storage like all ultra portables.
Its the same kind they use in the iPhone, just bigger. This is the main reason the air costs so much. Probably costs apple 500-600 dollars just for the battery. When you take that into consideration, and the fact that it's aimed at a specific market of people who have a desktop & might be looking for something better in the portable arena, but don't want something heavy. My girlfriend and i agreed when we first looked at one at the 5th ave store in NYC... it's hardly even there.
Well, i have an iBook, and it's VERY HEAVY compared to macbook air. If i had all new macs i'd want one to be the air because of how light it is. It's a segment product not a broad market product. If i had macbook air i'd take it with me everywhere. Can't say the same for my trusty veteran iBook. I love it, but its just too heavy.
no, currently larger drives are too tall, biggest is 80GB. it has to be a 5mm PATA drive, 160GB's are 8mm :(
but in five years, 1TB flash drives will be common, so the MacBook Air is poised to become extremely popular since it's done the hard part to get rid of all the old legacy hardware.
Thats pretty bad, Our techshop has worked on tons of iMacs and they are a pain in the ass to open, usually takes 2-3 techs and a couple broke credit cards to fish those latches open and pry them pos apart.
We havn't gotten to fix any airs. They are new enough that apple care takes care of them.
(If applecare wasn't around a lot of people would be in disbelief lol)
It turns out the mainboard doesn't actually contain anything to RUN the MacBook Air, it's just new technology to tap into the user's soul, and the the user's soul boots up OS X from the solid state hard drive.
nice thought gtey, thanks for pointing it out. I just want to share something with you. The mainboard indeed does not need to contain anything but the processor and the bridges which process and translate data from the HD, main memory is connected to main board, you can see that, the rests (video, audio, etc) are just components.
lmao ok. i was actually thinking about asking you for some help with my psp... see i did a mod and cuz out the back circle that had the "psp" and the silver ring around it but when i was just about finished my hand slipped and i scratched the umd door... would you be able to fix it?
We fix everything on the PSP, including UMD drive doors (which are $29 installed). Just send it in for a diagnosis, and a tech will call you with a quote!
seems a bit too much work for me to do to mess with it, i like to tinker without restrictions, but kudos on the dissection. like i said before, its got things going for it, just not something that suits me. one last thing, i dont really think they needed THAT many containers for it, kinda killing the eco friendly size, but regardless, nice vid. A reasonable PC fangirl has spoken!
The packaging had to be substantial enough to facilitate shipping, but they certainly could have used cellulose and molded popcorn in place of plastic and styrofoam.
Wow - I'm never making a video that doesn't include the re-assembly again! Rest assured, this MacBook Air is alive and break-dancing (see the next video).
The idea behind taking this apart was to show what was inside. Had I known that people would be so skeptical of the reassembly, I would have shown that as well (which is why I put the Time Capsule back together on video).
We have worked with LCD TVs but, just like desktop computers and monitors, they're too heavy and fragile for it to be practical to ship them in for service.
This unit went back together perfectly - it just would have taken twice as long to make a video that included the re-assembly and, frankly, Chet was about ready to kill me by the time this thing was apart, because I kept saying "stop, I need to take a picture of that!"
dawg r u serius,don open that thing.did you put it back together safely,i feel bad for u son coz that thin is about $2000 to $3000 and you might be in trouble if it don work.
NO, completely serious. Apple has things in the works that we don't know about. A clue is somtimes found by reading between the lines. If there's a space, it might be there for a reason. Also, all components are flat, since it's a wedge shape there should be a "wedge" of space". What did they fill it with?
Right you are - no replaceable memory modules in this unit. However, if you get the 64GB NAND drive, you'd effectively have as much memory as you had free drive space!
The battery is big and flat, the logic board is very small and our techs know how to take 'em apart and put 'em back together. We also noticed a few things that may enable us to offer exclusive upgrades and services, but I can't disclose those items without violating my NDA. (c;
The battery is the huge black thing that you see, when the unit is first opened (~31 seconds in). Chet leans it against the back wall when he removes it.
Actually it is back together but, since I had magazine ads to get out and I didn't want to be stuck in the office late, I decided to limit this video to the tear-down.
