I just beat this game on Normal mode and I sort of agree with this review. It's mildly fun to play with better voice acting, upgrades, and new plot, but the gameplay has a lot of irritating points such a enemy shields, annoying bike levels, and too many instant death traps. Megaman X8 overall is a decent game, but it is probably the worst X game next to X6.
How cold you say it's bad. First off it's megaman with more people and if you don't like the others then just play as x. Challenge is good so play on easy. The only reasion I didn't beet the game is becous my ps2 broke wile in sigmas palis.

How ever I do agree the levels could've been bit more fun and longer, but they certainly weren't boring or uncreative. Special weapons did suffer the same fate as in pretty much any Megaman game, not being useful at all except against bosses.
But other than that, this game was lot of fun and way better than X5, 6 and 7 together.

I don't really like this review, it's more like a personal experience for me. Capcom really tried after the failure of X7, and I say they did a pretty good job already. Sure, the game was not that excited, but compared to X7 it is on a whole different level. I love the old school 2D X3, X4, X5 and X6. But, come on, some change is necessary. I'm looking forward to the X9, hope it'll still be 3D.

@RoundPinkKirby this was a great game IMO, my problem was the level design, I felt no sense of freedom.. The plot left us hanging so of course we wanted a sequel. As for Legends they just announced 3.. for the 3DS though what a bummer
@DragONheart27X Even though its for the 3DS, we still don't know what the 3DS can do. Who knows why Keiji chose to make it on the 3DS. Maybe it held something that all gaming and handheld consoles don't have. Actually, I'm pretty satisfied that they have it on the 3DS. It's portable, so you can take it anywhere. Just as long as it has good volume and and a seeable screen, I'm fine.
Maybe if this game gets really popular, then he might make another one one the PS3. So its not a bummer! :D

Ok thumbs up if this doesn't make sense. Mega Man X7 gets a 6.5 on gamespot but Mega Man X8 gets a 6.3?! Mega Man X8 is WORSE?!?! I'm not saying Mega Man x8 is good, though it was at least fun for the first time since X4, but there's just no way you could say it's the worst in the series.
@InsideAVitalSuit Well...........yeah it's fun but not very good. Zero completely breaks the game and the proportions are so huge with bad level design. It's not very good, but X4 is still fun because Zero destroys everything. I think the only really good ones were X1-3.
this game kicks ass, this review is wrong... and, even the review said it went back to megaman old school roots so what's the point in complaining about the limited continues, none of the old school megaman games have unlimited ones and if you die you get game over and have to go through the whole stage again (and the irony is that he recommends to buy anniverssary collection) so don't listen to it, play the game and listen to its kick ass soundtrack. you won't be dissapointed =)
Fuck this, i got this yesterday and beat it today. It's not even bad. Its actually the best game i have. Its not even hard, just die once and try again. But the weapons really arent needed. even with the bosses. The only thing i use em for is to change X's color or to get rare metals. And Any Old skool game doesnt have unlimited continues. Thats why theres lives. And there making fun of the boss battles? Like the robot masters werent wierd. But it's a good game so dont listen to this review.
This isn't the type of game you can easily pass, you need to fail, you need to fail again, and again, and again, untill you finally don't fail. it's not like Modern warfare 2, heck, you don't need any skill to play modern warfare 2 (even on hardcore), this game is more for the oldschool gamers who enjoy a good and challenging platformer. and even if you became a professional at this game, if you leave it for a few months and then come back ,you will need to regain all that skill.

I agree with a lot of people here this guy must not be a megaman fan megaman is one of those series like castlevania thats not "user friendly" it takes skill and memorization to beat megaman games. I have X7 i havent really tried to beat it because it disappointed me 3 minutes into X8 it made up for x7 and then some I give it a 8.6 out of 10
I really liked this game. I will admit that it was very frustrating game and that took away alot of the fun, but at the same time it was awsome. The thing I loved about this game was the music, especialy the actual theme that didn't make it into the american version. Thats just my opinion, megaman x8 is a good game but it isn't for a person who has never played a megaman game in thier life. (my first was megaman network transmission for the gamecube)

@clywking ACTUALLY the guy who originally directed X1-5 wanted to end at 5 while he worked on MMZ on the GBA but Capcom hired someone else to make X6 without the previous direcectors knowledge (He did find out while X7 was being planned) but at least this game is a step in the right direction.

MMX8 was an excellent game. Capcom learned from their mistakes with MMX7 and delivered. This game is absolutely loaded with content, and can match up to the classics. And yes, it's hard, but IMO that's not a bad thing...MMX has a long reputation of difficulty, and that's why I love it.

It basically sounds like this guy sucks at the game and is bitter about it. I loved the gameplay. With the exception of the snow level, and the level where you're flying some kind of ship, this is completely like the gameplay from MMX1-6.
Also, I don't see what's so bad about Burn Rooster. This guy is ripping on the game just to rip on it. MMX isn't classic MM that should stay 8-bit. This series should evolve visually, and X8 was visually stunning with classic gameplay.
This is not that good of a game review. The difficulties of the game that he speaks about is one thing that makes the game itself. "This game isn't that much fun."? Although I have not played straight through any series (while emulating the earlier mega man games and owning the x collection), I doubt my experience would vary greatly because of the new additions to the game.
What he got right was that it does look more playable than x7 however.
Actually the game can be very frustrating and not that much fun at times, but at other times it's pretty f. Just some of the level designs are a pain in the ass and dodging the spikes can be extremely tedious.

Actually they are, Inafune even said so himself. The cutscene in X6 with Zero going to sleep is actually happens later in time and not right after X6 (confusing I know, but thats how Capcom explains it). Basically, X5 was supposed to be the last game, Capcom went ahead and made more without Inafune, and they have since had to tweak the stories of both the X and Zero series to make X6,7,8, and Command Mission canonical.
You are right! i meant "X5" instead of "X6" but when i realized i screwed that up, it was too late and there is no "Edit" button to fix my mistake.
Actually, i read somewhere that Kenji Inafune was really mad because nobody tells him about the decision to release MMX6 and he had no other choice but to change all the story of MMZero already wrote.
i think what they need to do, is do a 3D plateformer like mario 64, but with mega man.
Legends touched on this, but the controls were not that great. and it wasnt all that addictive of a game. it was fun and memorable, but mega man deserved better.
I think they should make mega man 3d but with the style of the NES megaman. I think that would be great.
And they should have 2 perspectives to choose from. Side view and 3rd person. even a first person, where u can see his blaster gun power up.
So having limited lives and starting a stage all over again after a game over is a bad thing? But it has ALWAYS been like this! And it was GOOD. They just changed it from X5 to X7, why they did this is beyond me. And if you ask me I actually prefer it this way. In X5-X7, you would start from a checkpoint, even after a game over, making game overs actually a good thing, since you could quit the stage without beating the boss if you wanted.

He has a point in saying that the X series has been around for anassload of time, at this point, its only being released for the fans themselves While the general mechanics remain the same, the story (for better/worse) and the additions and several gameplay mechanics HAVE evolved, so its not EXACTLY the same as before. If it deviates too far from the formula, then its an entirely new series. It leads to the argument of whether sequels are good, or just kill the series and send it into overdrive

I really didn't like X8, though it wasn't as bad as X7 the play control was felt sloppy, there's too many wasted levels like the speeder bike things and forced scrolling levels, and also the level design itself is nearly as bad as X6's.
i absolutely agree. they think in order to make the x series better , they have to add more abstract , irrational elements to what is only supposed to be ....nostalgia in part but more competitive and simple! MMX8 is like a new monopoly board but instead you have to roll 5 dice each time. @gemsteam I know right like with x7 they tried to do something new like making it 3d like nintendo did with metroid but they failed and add a new character even they could have chose a better voice actor like jeffery watson in x8 my personal opion is that they should have maintain the zero ending in x6 and give x the mentor role and let him teach axl how to be a good maverick hunter just like zero taught x.

But they were horribly designed same old. Special weapons were useless and stages weren't all that fun and there werent enough enemies.

@DragONheart27X Even though its for the 3DS, we still don't know what the 3DS can do. Who knows why Keiji chose to make it on the 3DS. Maybe it held something that all gaming and handheld consoles don't have. Actually, I'm pretty satisfied that they have it on the 3DS. It's portable, so you can take it anywhere. Just as long as it has good volume and and a seeable screen, I'm fine.
Maybe if this game gets really popular, then he might make another one one the PS3. So its not a bummer! :D

Ok thumbs up if this doesn't make sense. Mega Man X7 gets a 6.5 on gamespot but Mega Man X8 gets a 6.3?! Mega Man X8 is WORSE?!?! I'm not saying Mega Man x8 is good, though it was at least fun for the first time since X4, but there's just no way you could say it's the worst in the series.

@InsideAVitalSuit Well...........yeah it's fun but not very good. Zero completely breaks the game and the proportions are so huge with bad level design. It's not very good, but X4 is still fun because Zero destroys everything. I think the only really good ones were X1-3.

this game kicks ass, this review is wrong... and, even the review said it went back to megaman old school roots so what's the point in complaining about the limited continues, none of the old school megaman games have unlimited ones and if you die you get game over and have to go through the whole stage again (and the irony is that he recommends to buy anniverssary collection) so don't listen to it, play the game and listen to its kick ass soundtrack. you won't be dissapointed =)

Fuck this, i got this yesterday and beat it today. It's not even bad. Its actually the best game i have. Its not even hard, just die once and try again. But the weapons really arent needed. even with the bosses. The only thing i use em for is to change X's color or to get rare metals. And Any Old skool game doesnt have unlimited continues. Thats why theres lives. And there making fun of the boss battles? Like the robot masters werent wierd. But it's a good game so dont listen to this review.

This isn't the type of game you can easily pass, you need to fail, you need to fail again, and again, and again, untill you finally don't fail. it's not like Modern warfare 2, heck, you don't need any skill to play modern warfare 2 (even on hardcore), this game is more for the oldschool gamers who enjoy a good and challenging platformer. and even if you became a professional at this game, if you leave it for a few months and then come back ,you will need to regain all that skill.

I really liked this game. I will admit that it was very frustrating game and that took away alot of the fun, but at the same time it was awsome. The thing I loved about this game was the music, especialy the actual theme that didn't make it into the american version. Thats just my opinion, megaman x8 is a good game but it isn't for a person who has never played a megaman game in thier life. (my first was megaman network transmission for the gamecube)

@clywking ACTUALLY the guy who originally directed X1-5 wanted to end at 5 while he worked on MMZ on the GBA but Capcom hired someone else to make X6 without the previous direcectors knowledge (He did find out while X7 was being planned) but at least this game is a step in the right direction.

MMX8 was an excellent game. Capcom learned from their mistakes with MMX7 and delivered. This game is absolutely loaded with content, and can match up to the classics. And yes, it's hard, but IMO that's not a bad thing...MMX has a long reputation of difficulty, and that's why I love it.

One more thing...why does he complain about having to start over at the beginning of a level when you get a game over? Every 8-bit Mega Man, and the classic X games all worked like that. Why all of a sudden is this guy complaining about it now?

It basically sounds like this guy sucks at the game and is bitter about it. I loved the gameplay. With the exception of the snow level, and the level where you're flying some kind of ship, this is completely like the gameplay from MMX1-6.
Also, I don't see what's so bad about Burn Rooster. This guy is ripping on the game just to rip on it. MMX isn't classic MM that should stay 8-bit. This series should evolve visually, and X8 was visually stunning with classic gameplay.

This is not that good of a game review. The difficulties of the game that he speaks about is one thing that makes the game itself. "This game isn't that much fun."? Although I have not played straight through any series (while emulating the earlier mega man games and owning the x collection), I doubt my experience would vary greatly because of the new additions to the game.
What he got right was that it does look more playable than x7 however.

Actually the game can be very frustrating and not that much fun at times, but at other times it's pretty f. Just some of the level designs are a pain in the ass and dodging the spikes can be extremely tedious.

Actually they are, Inafune even said so himself. The cutscene in X6 with Zero going to sleep is actually happens later in time and not right after X6 (confusing I know, but thats how Capcom explains it). Basically, X5 was supposed to be the last game, Capcom went ahead and made more without Inafune, and they have since had to tweak the stories of both the X and Zero series to make X6,7,8, and Command Mission canonical.

Actually, i read somewhere that Kenji Inafune was really mad because nobody tells him about the decision to release MMX6 and he had no other choice but to change all the story of MMZero already wrote.

Acording with the "original" plan, X6 was the las episode of the X saga, and the Mega man Zero saga was the next chapter.
At the begining of Megaman zero, Zero was found in "stasis" mode and supposely he was in that mode since X6.
But X7 arrives and...they needed to change the plan and the story.

i think what they need to do, is do a 3D plateformer like mario 64, but with mega man.
Legends touched on this, but the controls were not that great. and it wasnt all that addictive of a game. it was fun and memorable, but mega man deserved better.
I think they should make mega man 3d but with the style of the NES megaman. I think that would be great.
And they should have 2 perspectives to choose from. Side view and 3rd person. even a first person, where u can see his blaster gun power up.

So having limited lives and starting a stage all over again after a game over is a bad thing? But it has ALWAYS been like this! And it was GOOD. They just changed it from X5 to X7, why they did this is beyond me. And if you ask me I actually prefer it this way. In X5-X7, you would start from a checkpoint, even after a game over, making game overs actually a good thing, since you could quit the stage without beating the boss if you wanted.

He has a point in saying that the X series has been around for anassload of time, at this point, its only being released for the fans themselves While the general mechanics remain the same, the story (for better/worse) and the additions and several gameplay mechanics HAVE evolved, so its not EXACTLY the same as before. If it deviates too far from the formula, then its an entirely new series. It leads to the argument of whether sequels are good, or just kill the series and send it into overdrive

i absolutely agree. they think in order to make the x series better , they have to add more abstract , irrational elements to what is only supposed to be ....nostalgia in part but more competitive and simple! MMX8 is like a new monopoly board but instead you have to roll 5 dice each time. Lets face it , its pretty ridiculous when megaman is running around blasting kamehameha's when it was more simple with just dodging ,charging , blasting , and dogfighting. i wish i was a developer!

This game is hard, but still kinda fun, and there are so many things wrong with this review.
For one, as frustrating as it might be, when he says this its bullshit. He gets hit way too many times, by his own fault, by things you have to suck to hit, like jumping on the wall when there was clearly spikes on it.
And Zero has been around since the first game, he's not from X7.
Its nowhere near as hard as they make it look, plain and simple.

Sorry, but it's not only go, kill, kill bos, get. It has special secrets on the levels, that basicly make you scream when you hear MMX8 and Bonus-armor/item in one sentence.
I hate and like this game at the same time, but most of the things that we have to get or kill are FRICKIN IMPOSSIBLE on NORMAL! In easy the game dosnt give you all items! (sure, why not! *lmgao*)!
