They needed a more tangible set of demands that the University itself could have responded to and they should have occupied a building more associated with University Administration rather than student study. I suppose it was fairly spur-of-the-moment though...

So let me get this straight, to protest the proposed increase in fees, students occupy a university library?

When I was a student I occupied the library for enormous amounts of time, I was doing what the one poor sod not protesting was trying to do, actually studying.

For anyone curious about the "outcome unknown" I gather that the police shoo-ed everyone out the following lunchtime...

Not really peaceful - laptops were stolen, people's notes were strewn about and for two days students were unable to access the main university library. It seems like it hurt other students more than anyone else.

Peaceful but direct, this is what we should be talking about. Not smashed vans, fights with police etc. Lets be positive in action and prove to everyone that we can be innovative in our demonstrations.
