I miss the days of being able to buy a CD and loving all the songs after the first listen. Think about the releases that dropped during the late '80s: G'n'R/Appetite for Destruction, Def Leppard/Hysteria, Warrant/Cherry Pie, Poison/Open Up and Say Ahh, Skid Row/Skid Row, Queensryche/Operation: Mindcrime & Empire, Bon Jovi/Slippery When Wet & New Jersey, Metallica/...And Justice For All; the list goes on and on. For me, there will never be a time when music is consistently that good ever again.
does anyone else think it a bit...i dunno shitty? that the only people they had to thank was the execs and such at the record label and not say...the fans who helped get you there?
@wllstl AMEN to THAT! I'm 54 and have actually started working with rock bands as a promoter only within the last 3 years. I already have a few big names as acquaintences! This is a dream come true! I hope to have the opportunity one day to meet these guys! Queensryche is my most favorite band of all time! My best friend was a professional artist known in several countries, and she met Geoff Tate. She told me she was speechless. He's awesome!
Even though I choke on the pain of the thought this song reminds me of the beautiful times with my first love, forever she will be in my heart and forever I will hold utmost respect for the memories! Queensryche I've been listening to as a young child,I'm 22 now and never will I see myself stop listening to them they hold a meaning more than any band!
I'm glad that Queensrhyce didnt give into idiot record execs who wanted to use the band get famous then drop them after 5 years..this band has staying power and with Geoff Tates 3 octave range , can just make a normal song and turn it into something we can feel. Love it. 30 years and still rocking, I hope they keep their music focus.
I remember this! I recorded it and watched it over and over. A few months ago I went home and was digging through my dad's house looking for it. Thank You for posting this !!
Listening to this causes so many emotions :) I absolutely love it...but am so upset that I wasn't alive when they were in their prime. Geoff Tate, what a voice! And the band in general: Amazing!
@hero7D This is actually from the Billboard awards show in 91. Phil Collins hosted it. Channel 11 ( Fox) showed this. They later included this in their setlist after it became a hit.
Daddy tell us a story. Ok kids gather round - once upon a time there was a cable channel called MTV that played Good MUSIC by talented MUSICIANS. So sorry to tell you it died and came back to life as a tv series channel that occassionally presented ENTERTAINERS with little or no musical background. Waaaaa why daddy why?? The holy dollar rules everybody's lives
Man that was the most cool comment I've seen in years! Back in 89 MTV was amazing! All the West/East coast hard rock bands were on top! I really miss those dayz/@!
This was not the 80's. This is from the 1991 MTV music awards. Queesryche will never be as cool as they were with Chris DeGarmo in the band. Michael Wilton is good, but every other guitar player they have had since DeGarmo can't play DeGarmo's solos well
Dokken447, please, I meant no offense to the Fab Four. I have one hell of a collection. I love the Beatles. This was just my comparison of Queensryche to them. I worship them both as well as others I am putting them on the same pedistal.. Rock on Dokken447!!!

@LynchSixx1313 i get what you meant and agree mostly...i miss the 80's and the way alot of things were ..its honestly heart wrenching sometimes when i think bout it.
ogni volta che la ascolto mi vien da piangere...e troppo bella per essere vera.li ho visti dal vivo nel 1991 in italia a modena al monsters of rock(di certo la migliore band)
Awh yes, back when music awards PLAYED METAL BANDS!!!!! They have been such garbage ever since with rap and country crap only. FU AMA's.... Long live metal... To think, I took a tape of this band to Jr. high school with me........ in 1984, lol....
R those background voices for real?! Or did they have recorded sound playing? I just can't believe rock musicians can have perfect pitch like that...amazing!
My honest opinion is that, the best Queensryche's album is Promised Land . I think that Take Cover from 2007 is also crazy album . However , Queensryche has special beauty !
YES!!!!!! I live in the NW and have heard Geoff, Cris, Kelly, Mike, Ed,SCOTT for decades!! Always the BEST live show! Hit every note, and then some!!! I am 45 and play guitar since 14 and always love to put on a Q cd and rock along!!! The best you can get!!!!!
@zoozooization but it's not, you can tell as the drums are different and there are a couple of flat moments... but all in all... they are FUCKING AMAZING!!!!! >.< x
yeah geoff tate was amazing. this was back when music was for real! Im so excited about the new album that came out cuz new album means new album tour! im getting my liscence soon and nothings stopping me from going to see these guys
QR was so unlike the rest of the hair bands. In fact, they weren't a hair band, they were just big during the era of hair. But they were so talented and full of genuine class...and they were one of the few bands of the time whose lyrics really tried to convey something other than "hot chicks" and such. Great band.
If Chris DeGarmo had not gone, then the band would have a high popularity factor today. Since Chris DeGarmo always took part in the compositions. Because of this, Queensryche does not have the quality which had it once any more.
This was from the Billboard awards in 1991, I remember this. I couldn't believe when I first heard it they were actually playing it because it sounded nearly identical to the CD, but there are subtle differences. .. amazing performance.

i like queensryche but how can a band create such a great album but then not make another so awsome! I mean their empire album is awsome but it was their only album that had many hits on it!
so empire wasnt good then, that album is pretty close if not up there with mindcrime, this is one of my favorite songs of queensryche and its from the empire album, along with silent lucidity
Of course it was. But it had already been stated, I was just mentioning they had other great albums along with this one. I was responding to what someone else had said about Empire being the only good album.
Agree, Empire isn't the only great CD. Everything before this was awesome as well imo. When Chris DeGarmo left, they lost something. He did a majority of the writing. I read that now he is a private pilot somewhere in the mid-west. Be nice to see them get him back and record a new CD. PS I Dream in Infrared is one of the best songs ever recorded imo.
Awesome band then and still are today. Tates voice is one of the best, if not THE best ever in the industry of music. The voice is incredible and the band ROCKS IT. Nuff said.
I'm not sure. I guess it's because he's just not that good of a singer. Chris and Eddie were, so Michael could sing along. But without Chis it's too obvious that Michaels voice insn't that great.. Ah well, his guitarplaying is, so that's cool!
When Chris Degarmo was in the band, michael use to sing backup vocals, but since chirs left he doesn't sing at all he only playing guitar. He is a greatest guitarist, but some one tell me why he doesn't sing at all?
I'm 16 and I know pretty much every rock song from the 70s and 80s and listening to Q live just damn near blew me away.
