I'm the girl who conductet that.
The people who sing did never sing before, this was the first, very little "concert" we made at the service in a small church after three month rehearsing.
I did never conduct before. Apart from that we had much trouble with several things. For this circumstances I think we've had a respectable result. I'm a professional, I know how it could sound. But this is not the...
You make some fair points but I can only comment on what I see, and I still stand by my earlier points. Criticism is hard i admit. Especially something close to you.
You're wrong. The soloist was the worst part of the song. if you don't believe me go check out how it really sounds. Just type "baba yetu" and choose the second option.

christopher Tin did not compose nothing. he copied A swahili Lords prayer hymn and put it on video game. what do you mean it is not african song? praise God. we got use alot of hymns on videos.
This is a remix of what we sung in Kenya @ mass. The 'ooooh' and the 'hey!' and the 'hheeee' bits are the additions. Also, they don have shakers(percussion instrument)...n the african drums need be louder. lol
Chaimoto, if you understand music, it doesn't matter if the words came from Our Lords Prayer or not, what matters is the way the music and words are arranged and how the music feels, if you don't feel it then you can't understand the meaning. Just because its a remix of something else isn't bad at all, this is one of the best songs I've heard in a long time.
To anyone who is wondering, this is NOT an African song. It was composed by Christopher Tin, a Chinese American guy, for the video game Civilization 4. Only in the choice of language is this song even remotely "African."
Actually, Tin composed this song in Swahili, which is indeed an African language. The song is the Lord's Prayer translated into Swahili, although once translated, it no longer has the same direct wording.
You are missing my point. My point is, that even though Tin used the Swahili language for lyrics, the tune and arrangement are entirely his own. The Lord's Prayer is common enough and has been translated into so many languages that it cannot count as an "African song."
Example: If I translated "Happy Birthday" into Japanese and put it to a new tune, would you call it a "Japanese song?"
Ah, okay. I thought you were trying to say it wasn't African, as in not being an African language. My fault completely.
You are correct. It is not an African-composed or African-origin song. It's the same as every movie theme ever composed with the Boston Pops Orchestra playing a Russian, Vietnamese, British, etc. song
The music is not original. That is how it has been sung in Africa...Kenya Catholic church. He just added the 'lion king like' ooooh....yeaaaah and heyy!!.
Fairly well done, but a bit abrupt. They need to smooth it out just slightly, and sing more through their throats than their noses. Other than that, it's good, albeit faster than it should be.
I love this song and the game but whenever I see high school choirs or whatever singing it I feel bad that they're singing a song from something as nerdy as Civilization.
It's a real song written and composed by Christopher Tin for Talisman A Capella and Civ4. It didn't exist before and certainly not in Africa...the Swahili in it is not even grammatically correct. It's "Baba Yetu Yesu..." for one thing and "simama mwehu" means nothing in translation that has anything to do with the Lord's Prayer. In fact, 1/2 of it is missing here. Great song, yes...but don't trust what you read on eLyrics.
the guy is a bit slow you could tell he missed the queue and starts two seconds late.. its funny everyone looks around at him.. hes like oh am I suppose to start.. lol
wow low quality high school choir, typical. theres no tenors and the soloist doesn't even breath i cant wait to do this the correct way at our spring concert.
so this is one of the funnest song to sing in life. [i know, we're singing it in chorus now]and i saw ZERO expression. and when you guys hit "u fal me wako...." ....yea pretty painful. nice try though.

keep up the good work guys! you can do even better! still I enjoyed this a lot :)
by the way I wish that all kinds of prayers of all religions were more or less like this, this is sooo peaceful and positive.
I grew up in a muslim country and I don't like the sound of prayers that you hear from the mosques and I honestly do not consider myself a muslim, nor belong to any other religion...
I assume this is some kind of church thing. It's probably 9AM on a Sunday and most of them wish they were still sleeping instead of being forced into going to church by their parents.
well you guys picked a really good songs.. but can you guys look more dead? you are so boring up there! singing is alot more then just getting your notes right

keep up the good work guys! you can do even better! still I enjoyed this a lot :)
by the way I wish that all kinds of prayers of all religions were more or less like this, this is sooo peaceful and positive.
I grew up in a muslim country and I don't like the sound of prayers that you hear from the mosques and I honestly do not consider myself a muslim, nor belong to any other religion...

Must have been hard to memorize the lyrics, LOL!!! Mad props, I was a little skeptic at the beginning, but I thoroughly enjoyed this.

I assume this is some kind of church thing. It's probably 9AM on a Sunday and most of them wish they were still sleeping instead of being forced into going to church by their parents.

I'm not a big fan of the brightness of the soloist's tone.
Dropping the jaw and allowing space at the back of the throat can give it a darker sound.
