Did I detect a note of bitter jealousy there, calyx93? Surely the 'intended purpose' of a modular synthesizer (if there was such a thing) is experimentation - something which the non-musician is perhaps better equipped for than the traditional instrumentalist?
For someone who's not a musician, you certainly have many rare and musical synths in your possession. Pity they won't be used for their intended purpose.
You have no idea how many of these machines are actualy in studio's over the world,and just standing there collecting dust.Nowadays musicians prefer to work with computers because they are easy to use.Programming a modular/semi-modular is too expensive as people pay by the hour to rent studio time.So presets are their biggest "help".
maybe you ARE a musician. Have you tried?
