  • @pissedatpez CR450s need more frequent valve adjustments than you think, like all the hot rod 450s. With a two stroke, if you do a top end rebuild once a season, it will cost basically nothing and is simple to do. When a four stroke drops a valve...lol, well you better have a sympathetic bank account.

  • you can ride slowly on a 2- stroke (trust me, i hav one) only on 125s load up quicker so u might hav to clean it out once in a while.

  • 2 strk or 4 strk. owned both. Depends on the rider preference. neither is better in my mind. i love my 426. used to have a 2 strk 250. all good too! nice thing about the 4 strk is yah dont run out of rpm as quick, the power is still there while crawling in a high gear.. deadly for climbing!

  • I wish I had a video camera. I watched my buddy's 97 RM125 beat a yz426 in a drag race. but besides that. 2 strokes are better IMO. I love my rm250. but honestly. if you want a 4t. good for you. when you buy 1 valve for the same cost that it takes me to rebuild my top end. we will see who is doing better. plus. the way i see it. if your scared of a 2 stroke? more for me to buy haha

    CR500AF = 1987 motor in a 2009 CRF250R Frame.

    They also make a KX500AF, (CR250AF 2002 motor / 2009 frame), (KX250AF 2004 motor / 2009 frame) - This has nothing to do with Kawasaki or Honda - It is a US company a bit like BBR.

  • someone on heres got it mixed up the 4 stroke has more torque and the 2 stroke usually has more hp. alota my buddys race and everything they say bout there 450s are to race one good then you gaotta be able to race a 250 like the best. the 4 strokes have so much more torque after owning both the 2 strokes fun and all but sometimes that down low torqe just isnt there when you need it.

  • There is more to going fast and winning other than just raw power (handling, rider, etc). Have you ever heard of tractable power? Stock both the CR500 and CRF450 have about the same power and torque (built things are different and both can practically rip your arms off). Again there is an old saying"there is no replacement for displacement" so the 500 should win anyway. But because a 2T fires every stroke it is essentially doubling displacement vs a 4T this is why they have to run bigger engines

  • Depends. In a straight line drag, the 250 beats the 250f for sure, on a track where rider skill is the main factor, then yes a 250f can beat a 250. I have ridden with plenty of 250's, 250f's and 450's and the 250f is definitely the slowest as far as acceleration/top speed goes, but in the corners the 250f gains some back because of its lighter weight. Personally I prefer my 450 over them all but it's more preference than anything else

  • I don't believe the cr500 had 65hp stock, I've ridden a built cr500 and there is now way it had more than 65-70 and it was built by pro-circuit. I would believe mid 50's stock sounds about right. And yes, a 450 could indeed beat a 500, it just depends on what you are doing. In a straight line the 500 wins, on a track where rider skill is important the 450 could easily win.

    I ride a YZ426F now, and I love it. I see no reason to go back to another temperamental 2 stroke.

    YZ 250 Weighs 212 Pounds. Both dry weight.

    YZF 426 Has about 48 Horsepower

    YZ 250 Has about 47 Horsepower. 426 Pushed one more horsepower, but also weighs more by about 19 pounds. Which would win? Pretty sure it's gonna be the YZ250.

    YZF426 Would be eating a little dust.

It's about how you can get to that power that is key. 20lbs between bikes will be equivalent to about 2 hp. And tractable power is something to consider also; between a 4T and 2T the 2T tends to spin on top of the ground and the 4T tends to dig more...

A 4T needs more displacement because it has half the power strokes as a 2T, thus double the displacement makes things fair. As far as per each power pulse, the 4T is more powerful, it just happens to fire half as often.
