  • Shame on the communist party, Yahoo and the IOC.

Tibet and China will be FREE

  • An impressive list, except that it also demonstrates that almost no country has recognized Tibet as an independent country for almost 100 years.

  • The US was backing Tibetan FREEDOM fighters until about 1971.

China recognized Tibet for about 1100 years it would seem !!!

Tibet and China will be FREE from the evil communist party CULT

  • The US backing Tibetan FREEDOM fighters is NOT the same as recognizing Tibet as an independent country. Anyway, the operative word here is "WAS", as in US "was" backing Tibetan Freedom Fighters.

China NO longer recognizes Tibet as independent, and that is a fact, regardless of if it did so before.

No, all religions are CULTS, and Communism is not a cult; and besides, America is more communist than China.

  • I think I recall that Mao talked about Tibetans.

We know that Tibetans are not Chinese so Mao was recognizing Tibet as a country when he talked about Tibetans.

Tibet belongs to Tibetans, and China belongs to Chinese. Anything else would be silly.

  • We in the US regularly use the terms such as "Texans", "Native Americans", and "African Americans", but we do not recognize any of them as having an independent state. While it is nice to aspire to Tibetan independence, but to achieve it, blood has to be shed. Are the Tibetans willing to do that, considering it is 8 million Tibetans against 1300 million Chinese? So give it a rest, most dreams never come true.

  • There are more worthy causes such as combating global warming, poverty alleviation, fighting against child labor and human trafficking, etc. Basically, substantive and realistic causes are many and all require urgent attention. Choosing any of those, as opposed to supporting Tibetan Independence, can bring much more genuine and long lasting benefits to humanity.

  • When the evil communist party is gone things will get better for about 20 percent of the world's population. Maybe significantly more than 20 percent of the Worlds population.

  • I am under the impression that there is no Communist party in China. Unless you have a funny definition of Communism, but I think what China has now is State Corporatism...

  • The communist party should change its name to Corruption Party.

  • And I don't suppose the Dalai Lama would be open to changing his title to "The Holyman who was a former slave owner".

  • Therein lies your problem: ignorance of facts and history is at the root of your support for a free tibet. I am all for self-determination, but those who want independence must be prepared to fight and WIN that coveted independence. Nobody else but Tibetans themselves must struggle for it and be willing to die for it. Until then, we are just wasting time and WORDS.

  • Things will be better in the PRC when the World knows the TRUTH.

No need for a violent revolution.

  • I agree, things will be better in the PRC when the world knows the truth, since more international commerce will be done with China, and the world will forget about Tibet.

  • I am also under the impression that Tibet under the Dalai Lama was no utopia either, with slavery, poverty, and theocratic oppression being quite prevalent. Anyway, I just don't buy the myths.

  • I have seen no evidence of serfs, slaves or oppression in Tibet in 1948. In Lhasa they seemed to be right into religious ceremonies for 58 days a year or whatever it was.

The main problem seemed to be that they neglected the communist threat, perhaps because Tibet had always retained its own sovereignty they didn't see having a decent army as a worthwhile thing to have.

  • Ah, even the Dalai Lama openly admitted there was widespread slavery in Tibet, and he said he was "too young" and didn't understand the evil. Hmmm... whatever.

  • Do you have a source for that ???

  • Do you know that the country of Tibet had passports, stamps, its own culture, language and defined territory ???

All those things show Tibet was independent.

  • "WAS" independent... WAS, HAD BEEN, HAS BEEN, ONCE WERE, etc... Am I missing something here? I don't think I disagree with you...

  • The funny thing is that every time CCTV says Tibetan Autonomous Region it is recognizing Tibet.

So who recognises Tibet in 2009 ??? China does !!!

  • Autonomy is not the same as independence. Use a dictionary, buddy.

  • CCTV lies, but it recognizes Tibet. Learn about CCTV.

  • Is Tibet a recognized country? If not, why should it get to send its athletes?

  • BORING!!!!

    Thanks for wasting my time....

  • An American living in Jerusalem, I also very much appreciate it. If readers of talkbacks get tired of all the uninformed outbursts, try reading the latest at the news blog Agam's Gecko or this one: "Tibeto-Logic" at blogspot dot-com.

  • A cheap shot at China by Al Jazeera, just another example that this news outfit is biased and abide to certain interests in the west.

  • "biased and abide to certain interests in the west"?? WTF ?? ARE U ANOTHER DUMB COMMUNIST ?? U Need a bitch SLAP !!

  • Are you a dumb redneck lowlife? U need a 'donkey punch'.

  • Thanks Aljazeera. I did not know about "The Other Olympic" - I don't blame them - I would have done the same thing If I was Tibetan.

    FREE TIBET

    FREE PALESTINE

  • what about people in scotland and texas? They also want to participate in olympic as an independent country. We should all do something.

  • wtf thats stupid that they cant compete in beijing

  • Wow!.

I live outside of New York City and need to watch Aljazeera to find some balanced reports on China. The US media, especially NBC, which has the broadcast rights, is showing China favorably. No Pollution. No censorship. All their gymnasts are 16 years old. And of course the US press won't report on the govt. sponsored sports program.

    Thanks for the info.

  • to joint the chinese national team, i don't think renouncing tibetan id is remotely good enough. so don't flatter yourself, dear 'olympian'.

having said that, sports are good for everyone, with or without a country.

  • I'm assuming they tibetans can/have participated in olympics in other venues like athens 2004 and london 2012

  • Thanks Aljazeera. Tibetan are in debt for your covaraged.
