Does anybody have any idea what he's saying or what language that is?
I know the first verse is English, but I can't understand anything after that.
"Reflection" is my favorite song and this version is amazing. Maynards moaning background vocals at the beginning are truly hypnotic, which compliment Danny's liquid drumming sounds.
Who the fuck crowd surfs at a Tool concert?! You're supposed to observe the beauty of the artwork and music. No wonder Maynard doesn't really like his fans. Cuz a lot of them are fuckin drunk retards.
i feel like for any other band this could not work cause only Tool can put together seemingly bad combinations and to pull it off in a truly artistic fashion because they're a genuine piece of musical genius at this moment in time
wow that setlist is amazing! the grudge, ticks and leeches, pushit in the same show! you just dont see that anymore. especially tool playing 9 songs lately. and one of them is just an intro. (lost keys blame hoffman) so pretty much 8 songs.
WHAT A RAD SETLIST! I think Hawkman did fine, and hes obviously their friend who they respect... Someone else noted he is the guy in the Parabol/a video.
Wow. Just....wow. Trust Tool to put this kind of stuff together. VERY cool (although i can't think of a lot of rappers, ESPECIALLY patois-style jamrock rappers, that could pull it off either - Tricky is clearly the man)
I was at this show. personally, I thought this was one the best songs they did. general admin. sold out for this show in like 4 min. I was the second to last person in line to get them.
Did not wreck it. Interesting version, its not like his rapping was 'traditional' it was quite different, and somehow he made it fit. Props to the man.
wish I had been there... seeing this live would have made any brought a huge smile to the face of any true fan.. I prob would have had a great big smile and perhaps a tear?
because those 4 other guys on stage who have made millions of dollars by making creative and inspiring music for the past 2 decades thought it would be a good idea.
Actually....if you just listen to the music ...the rap went pretty ok with it ...its the essence if the song that was "ruined"!!
This song is about echo and narissus who are part of a greek mythology....echo fell in love with his own reflection...and he pined away !!!! lol.....rap ????
not to say thats not true i dont read greek mythology. but to me it s always been about finding yourself, innerpeace, killing the ego, spirituality.not nessisarilly with a god but yourself. and that its not an easy task. its something you have to choose and work twards. a' la meditation
and reflecting on your ego. because you have to identify it within yourself before you "crusify" it. and as far as the weird black guy ithink it was probly just to mix things up and make it sound more trippy. it kindda sounds like hes speeking swahili but im not sure.
I have not heard of tricky before now. To be honest, a genuine spiritual moment cannot be "ruined", or else it was not one in the first place. I think his collaboration with the band strengthened the song's intensity...Though, some of it became a bit redundant. It is art, an expression of awakening to ones own inner light. Just enjoy it.
hooks thats because your an idiot. dont blame them for trying to expand their musical horizon its art. and its not rap either its reggae..let me guess you dont like rage against the machine either?
no, I'm not an idiot, I just don't like rap, especially combined with psychedelic music. Rage is really good man, but something totally different. And I like POD a lot too, and don't mind aggressive rock combined with rap. But for me to combine my personal spiritual special song with rap is personal blasphemy. I probably shouldn't have said it on youtube, but perhaps others feel this way too.
I'm all for expanding horizons, but it's good to stick to your guns sometimes too.
and that's what I said. I personally don't like it. It bothers me, and it hurts me to think my favorite song was ruined for me. of course Tricky might be a cool guy and all, and Tool may have the best intentions, BUT it just bothers me, you know? I'm not small-minded at all, but my spiritual moment was just ruined. sorry.
hahahha, that's what i just wanted to say, this isn't tricky at all ppl ,thisi s hawkman - but yeah he is part of tricky;s crew, and tricky was there too.
as I said, "if you like rap and tool, kudos to you" but the fact is that I don't, and I'm very narcissistic when it comes to music. It really has to hit me the right way.
And up to now, only a few bands did so in a near perfect way (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and even RHCP). I enjoy nearly each of the aforementioned bands' entire repertoire, with some exceptions (early Beatles, Made in the Shade by Skynyrd, anything after The Wall for Pink Floyd, a the last two albums of Zeppelin, you get my point).
Tool was the first band that I really liked every song, every album (Opiate is seen as a trial period in my mind, so can't be judged, though the concepts and some parts were really awesome)
I mean here, is that for me, Tool had something very special that they shared with a rapper, and for me that means that I had to share that, too, and I don't want to. It's not about being a fan, rather, about enjoying and experiencing music, and perhaps even more important, growing because of the music.
And really this is my favorite song, and has a special, sacred place in my heart, so it's hard to see a piece of it go to something else that I absolutely abhor.
New ideas are great, but I've tried to like rap/hip hop/shit, and could never in 10 years get into it that much.
Sorry for writing a book here, but it's something important to me.
For what it's worth, this is (in my opinion) their most profound song... But the reason the song is so powerful is not just the lyrics but the emotion. I think "Tricky" did a wonderful job of just adding another layer onto the emotion that is already in the song.
Plus, this is the guy that starred in their "Parabola" music video so it's not like he's just some random guy they picked up to "do something different"... he's a respectable musician that has a lot of his own really strange tracks.
I wouldn't say so. Being a musician, I can see the beauty in any genre of music. To me genre doesn't matter in any way, it's all about the quality of the art. Whether the artist put their soul into it or not, then whether I enjoy it or not.
Wow, Tool guys must all be (R)epublicans or North Koreans. Personally it sounds like Tricky did a good job of tailoring his line for Reflection. He is actually a musician unlike most MC's and knows what he is doing.
Thanks bro. The whole thing definitely makes more sense with Garrison Hawk than Tricky, but not even the guy that posted this know that! I said "that guy looks like he eats too well to be Tricky." Lol.
