Drew is way off base calling this a "love story". They had an abusive relationship enabling the very worst aspects of one another. They had a horrendous life.
I'm living on a farm in SA where "the Fabulous High Life of the Heiress who couldn't say no- to" A Lion in my bedroom". Pat Cavendish O'Neill lives with her Chimp Kalu, her baboons, many dogs & cats, peacocks too!!! There is a movie to be made here too!!
This is such amazing movie...It made me think about my mother and I,honestly, I don't want to ever end up like little and big Edie. I think that my mother would kick me out of house if I won't move out until I turn 25.
i saw the film a few months ago on tv....it was amazing!! and then the documentary was on the same channel right after the movie....and i was stunned,...makes u cry but u end up falling in love with the whole thing. i wish they ddnt go thru what they had to go thru....but that was their kismet :-( at least they were happy in their own frames of mind
this was the best i've seen Drew Barrymore act. she was just fantastic. but Jessica Lange blew me away! the scene where she was singing while combing her hair was unforgettable.
These two beautiful ladies did a tremendous job portraying Big Edie and Little Edie.
A moving story that always brings a tear or two to my eyes.
Saw the doco movie first.........utterly mesmerizing......then the movie...............wow how extrordinary! Gave much more of an isight as to how and where it all began and why things went the way they did! Where are their Oscars?
I saw the "Grey Gardens" documentary a few years ago and was touched, and I just saw the "Grey Gardens" movie on HBO last night. Drew showed that being a gifted thespian is genetic. She blew me away (as did Jessica Lange). Holy smoke! She didn't act, she became. She disappeared into her character. It was a Meryl Streep calibur performance.
fantastic, amazing, original and so much more, the film of the documentary was brilliant.thoroughly recommend to anyone who has yet to see it.i was "wide eyed" just as drew said.never seen 2 actresses get their real life characters so accurate.oscars for you both.
I had the pleasure of watching the documentary and the film back to back last night on TV. I wouldn't be a big TV watcher but, " This was "Just Fantastic".
Im soooo glad i watched this interaction between 2 beautiful wonderful women.
I felt a sadness in my heart for both of them. Miss Lange/ Miss Barrymore, you were joyous and wonderful to watch. I applaud you both.
this was a brilliant depection of the depths of mental illness and codependency among two very intelligent women..... powerful... moving...... i loved it!!!
to funkills...wot is your function in life bag on the ppl who played the parts of these two woman an at that bag on Drew ? if you like little edde an have any compassion for her life seems to me you would extend this to Drew for she grew up with the best in the business an while she has struggle maybe you should walk in her shoes for how can you know another s life if you cant for a moment stop an think ? shameful growup
Most unusually, I saw the HBO movie first. I never even knew about the original from 1976. But the trailer for this HBO movie hooked me. I saw its premiere broadcast. The personal drama of this special story is so powerful and touching, I was awestruck. That is when I learned it was based on the fact there was a 1976 doc. THEN I saw the original 1976 documentary.. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was yes REAL! At that moment Drew & Lessica's performace floored me. W-O-W
i saw the documentary before the show and i cant believe how dead on these woman got it.. especially lange as big edie omg she totally had me thinking it was big edie at some parts it was so accurate.. drew was amazing in her portrayal they both will get nominations and hopefully win

Just watched the full "movie". I'm so sad. I wish there was a way to "unwatch" things. They stole everything, direct Maysles Brother's shots were used, direct lines were ripped off like lip synch; Drew Barrymore in Little Edie drag, ruining it for everyone. Couldn't these morons even come up with their own dialogue? How could this happen? Albert and David Maysles' masterpiece original reduced to a mediocre ego-stroke of a movie. Drew, you petulant little vampire, you need a good talking to.
I am in awe of the movie and the Doc wow these women are so complex almost make me sad to see how beautiful they were an dto see them in the doc ! that is so quicly the mind can take before you go into survial mode. That is basicaly what they did. they are wonderful loving women and they did the best they could!
All my life the song 'Tea For Two' only seemed silly and it wasn't until I watched the documentary and saw Big Edie transported and in ecstacy by the song that I understood it. My jaw dropped when I saw Jessica Lange recreate the exact same moment in the the HBO movie. She really is the best actress in America I think.
I ordered HBO just to see this too! With such high expectations going into it, I was completely floored. Drew just NAILED it and Jessica Lange was tremendous as well. Such a brilliant movie!
texrah, it's amazing- I too ordered HBO for the sole purpose of this movie, which, to be honest, I didn't even really want to see. I had a friend who wanted to watch it, so I figured, sure, why not? Well, to date, I've watched this movie about 6 times and each time I find something more fascinating about it. I find it very difficult not to continue puzzling over the "whys" and "hows" long after my dvr has been turned off. Drew and Lange- I liked them both before, now I'm in LOVE with them!
The movie breaks every artistic ground that anyone would like to break or be part of, As a follower of Cult and underground movies and a follower of Grey Gardens since my youth, owner of rare couture worn by Edie and knowledgeable of vintage couture, This movie should make every drag queen, fashion designer, etc, etc, Read More proud, that HBO believes in what we are all after what Andy Warhol said, 15 minutes of fame.
and for all of you who think i am fkd up watch Royce on ' you Know NOTHING!
{tear tear}...=[ I truly want to see this movie but i dont have cable to see HBO!... I Really Really hope someones posts it on YouTube... if anyone does PLEASE let me know!...thanx!...
