  • Fascinating accounts from all parties to the battle! What happened to the Second Part, since this is cut off?

  • My grandfather Jan de Vries was aboard HMS de Ruyter. Sergeant Stoker. After being picked up after 24 hours floating in the sea transported back to Java and from the to the Birma railroad. Back in the Netherlands in 1946.

  • @juliusbull My respects for your grandfather. I had a science teacher in 1950 or so who had been on the USS Houston, the heavy cruiser sunk on Feb 28, 1942, 70 years ago.

  • Thanks for the upload.

    Much appreciated.

  • i have great respect for these men and respect for Karel Doorman a dutch commander who died with his ship

  • @multimillionmile Yes, Admiral Doorman was in charge of the Allied fleet. They named a Dutch warship after him.

  • My great uncle Frank was a Dutch soldier stationed at Fort Menari. From that vantage point he watched the ABDA fleet sailing out of Surbaya harbor. His father-in-law was an officer aboard the cruiser De Ruyter.
