I saw them around 1986. Their blend took me off guard... I found I was weeping from the sheer beauty. I was a pretty macho teen so that freaked me out. This brings it right back to me. Jeez. I remember thinking they were "old". HAHAHA. They were masters ... and still are.
Such harmony....still makes my heart beat after all these years. Thanks for sharing. Anyone got "No one Can Make My Sunshine Smile?" I'd lover to hear that one again.
i suppose i don't even need to start looking for anyone better. Don and Phil are the very best. i would give anything to have met them either years ago or even now.
I love the Everly Brothers and I love this song. What makes this song stand out for me is the steel guitar in the background. At 1:34, Don glances over his shoulder at the steel guitar musician as if to say "You look like you're having a great time with this song".
The original version was up on you tube a while back but was taken down. The original version is by far, the best, IMHO. I remember when that song came out. It was on the flip side of Bye, Bye Love.
It's one of those few songs that you can listen to over and over and over, and never get sick of it.
vwhuggerII - I agree. This is one of my favorites (I have a lot of them, I know). I love this song and the way they sing it. (I tried to thumbs-up your comment but YT wouldn't let me :-(
I remember when this song first came out in the late 1950s, was written I believe by the EB. Sounds even better after all these years. They are the best.
Trying to choose a favorite Everly Brother is like trying to choose your favorite between inhaling and exhaling - separately, each is pretty darn great, but together, well, it just makes life good!!
I can't seem to decide which one I like better. I began to watch them last fall when I was checking out Ricky Nelson. I told my daughter to play the birddog song by him and she said he didn't have a song about that. Then I thought Don was ignoting Phil when they sang and Phil was so attentive to Don. From then I was "hooked." I heard or read somewhere that Phil watched Don to be able to harmonize with him. Maybe...
I think you may be right about Phil sensing Don's nuances during a performance. It must have been so difficult to spend that much time with your brother and to grow up in front of the whole world, bad days and good. lol
Excuse me, I meant "ignoring Phil." It sort of angered me because I couldn't see anyone ignoring that sweet guy. I watched several of the videos to see if he ignored him in others. By then I was interested and it didn't take me long to find out about the harmonizing.
YES I CAN'T CHOOSE EITHER--their voices just makes your heart feel so good it spreads all over your body, not much in life can make you feel that good !!!!
This appears to be part of the Reunion Concert. I'm wondering why this isn't on my version of it. Somewhere I heard or read that there were two recordings of the concert with different songs. Does anyone know this to be true?
I had no idea they were still doing this song at such a late date...wonderful! I love this song and I like the fact that they could still perform it in a different but effective way.
Funny thing is, judging by the vocals, it sounds just like the CD version to me, but the steel guitar part (mixed much louder), is completely different. So either this is the unreleased version, or they did some reeeally clever editing on the Reunion Concert album
There is certainly some editing on the CD, listen to Temptation, it has backing vocals which are not on the video. and they only sang temptation on the first night of the reunion,(I know coz I was there) so it must be the same performance.
Hard to believe that this Reunion is 25 years ago this year. Ik bought the VHS of it early 1989. Always annoyed how terribly false the intro to "Let it be me" was. I now have the concert on DVD. The intro is however still out of tune.
This is done so beautifully - thank you for sharing it with us!

I have read that their harmonizing is instinctual, and I have to believe that!

There is an entirely different version of this song on the 'Roots' album from the late 60's. Worth checking out!

Interesting. I think the Walk Right Back book mentions something about Don recording that solo in a studio for the double-album.

There's a bunch of songs left out on the DVD of the Reunion Concert. Any tips on how I can order songs like these?

I don't think they are comercialy available, thats why I've decided to post them, I hope you like them, I think the Everlys are just unbeatable.
