Commissioner Esplin ought to be aware that many volunteers are not leaving the CFA because of "angst" as a result of decisions they made during Black Saturday, but also because the resulting inquiries have been very unpleasant.
To give so much only to be accused of failing communities and causing deaths is devastating. Rather than "encouraging firefighters to return" perhaps the commissioner should defend firefighters, very few of whom made decisions affecting the Black Sat's outcomes.
