No, we would not be able to produce enough to be independent on foreign oil. Even if we did, it's a global market so the price would still respond to global events, supply, and demand. Alternative energy works, but it faces a preexisting infrastructure and power structure. It will expand, but we need government intervention to speed up the process both for putting in place existing technologies and for shortening the time to bring new technologies to market.

If we start to increase supply the price MAY go down or STABILIZE somewhat. There is no way to make the price go down.

However the supply and demand are not the only thing driving the price up. Also, as he said, it took a while to get to this price, and I remember him saying in 2002 that the rising of oil price was worrying. What has he done about it since then? Nothing! what he is saying is that the mind set of the oil companies is to keep supplies low enough, perhaps even artificially. however the solution is not offshore drilling. Its drilling in the areas the companies are already leasing and not drilling in.
If there is a psychology in the oil market where supplies remain stagnent while demand increases, how would allowing off-shore exploration change the price of oil? By Dubya's logic, even if permitted to drill, there would be no incentive for oil companies to do so.

No, we would not be able to produce enough to be independent on foreign oil. Even if we did, it's a global market so the price would still respond to global events, supply, and demand. Alternative energy works, but it faces a preexisting infrastructure and power structure. It will expand, but we need government intervention to speed up the process both for putting in place existing technologies and for shortening the time to bring new technologies to market.

If we start to increase supply the price MAY go down or STABILIZE somewhat. There is no way to make the price go down.

However the supply and demand are not the only thing driving the price up. Also, as he said, it took a while to get to this price, and I remember him saying in 2002 that the rising of oil price was worrying. What has he done about it since then? Nothing! I'm fealing the same way. His use of the word psychology was highly inaccurate and makes his plans sound like a complex idea for a long term success when in fact it is just another ploy to make him look good.
In simple terms, I assume he's saying "the mental break down of society is based on asking for something that there is limited supply of". I'm sorry if anyone else disagrees, but that is the nonsense I hear coming out of his mouth.

Actually, we didn't elect him twice. He was appointed by the supreme court the first time. And there were serious concerns of foul play in Ohio in 04.

what he is saying is that the mind set of the oil companies is to keep supplies low enough, perhaps even artificially. however the solution is not offshore drilling. Its drilling in the areas the companies are already leasing and not drilling in.

If there is a psychology in the oil market where supplies remain stagnent while demand increases, how would allowing off-shore exploration change the price of oil? By Dubya's logic, even if permitted to drill, there would be no incentive for oil companies to do so.
Seems to me he just ACKNOWLEDGED that his oil buddies are intentionally keeping oil prices high.
