interesting- you have a pocket sized gadget with a 20 mile plus beam that used to only exist in starwars.

The diffraction grating splits the light into much weaker beams that are probably below 5mW which are safe. You are right though, safety glasses would be best.

Easy to see it in person. Buy a good green high power laser pointer from Dragonlasers (dragonlasers*com) and a diffraction grating which are easy to get online.

It is as simple as pointing the laser beam through the diffraction grating. Very easy.
