  • What was the song at the end? its awesome

  • Don't believe the part about them cheering for the destruction of his computer monitor UNLESS they were told he'd get a replacement beforehand. Also, I don't think the events were live during the first 50 minutes either.

  • im sure most of the audience knew that everything was going to be explained to chris and that the damages would have been compensated for, so all of the pain they were causing was just temporary. The audience would have acted differently if they actually got to choose if chris gets fired etc...

  • where's the new Xbox? hehe

  • the mob should have messed with derren and make him pay 10k pounds to chris. that would be sweet. of course, derren is not gonna let that happen:) you never know what really is the percentage of the votes were.

  • @mofohole Except that this experiment has been repeated by psychologists over the years several times with remarkably similar results. Google "Mob Mentality & Psychology"

  • I loved this episode. Just shows how disgusting human beings truly are.

  • ya shout it loud again smash his telly guy

  • NOT THE XBOX hahaha

  • I was not happy, I could not believe they actually voted for the negative option every time.

  • Derren is a genious. He should have gotten a standing ovation from that crowd for teaching them a great lesson.

  • This - is - simply - Derren's BEST WORK of his career.

  • However, even I found myself laughing at most of the negative yet real outcomes. I was absolutely shocked at the end when I saw the man getting hit by the car. We all must be aware of our surroundings & not let ourselves be influenced in such terrible ways....Because the possibility IS there. Do not let yourself be fooled. Thank you for another brilliant upload computersolutions164.

  • @novitasx You are very welcome and it is very interesting reading peoples comments and discussions

  • Deindividuation is a fascinating subject and I'm happy that Derren took the time to at least give us a glimpse about the matter. Human beings have the capability to have both amazingly beneficial and detrimental qualities. It makes you wonder what you would do in that situation. We all may look at this and claim we would never make such negative and harmful decisions.

  • BULLSHIT EXPERIMENT. the only real illusion was that derren tricked the great majority 2 actually believe & actually take 2 heart that the experiment proved its point, haha. i mean, this "experiment" had so many obvious holes and i noticed that only a few in the comments section were able 2 pick up on some of them or all, but the great majority actually bought into this.

  • I would not have voted so negatively. Yes probably some at the beginning but as time went on I would not have. I do take joy in seeing people happy more so than people in pain. But this video give us all something to think about. Thank you for uploading.

  • @blva888 Glad you enjoyed it

  • The audience didn't seem very happy at the end.

  • This is so scary scary.. I would really have liked to see Chris reaction to the nights event.

    Thanks for uploading! :)

  • @fritzrudi21 You're welcome

  • What a dramatic ending. Must be the only Derren Brown show not to get applause. Brilliant.

  • Dont you think the audience would have voted differently if they knew the danger Chris was facing was real? Derren makes it seem like everything they were doing was in good fun, and at the end of the night the big reveal would show Chris happy and relieved. So they voted negatively to have that final expected payoff be bigger and more rewarding.

  • @MrElimanning40 If they knew, obviously they would have reacted differently. As Derren stated, they always had a way out. Cheering for a man to lose his job or to smash his telly is a terrible thing already & they followed through with it still. Someone could've said to stop or walked out. No one did. Derren's actions only "helped" them go ahead with the decision. They fell into that mob mentality. No one can say with certainty that they voted negatively to have a bigger & happier ending.

  • Comment removed

  • This show how stupid people are in bunches (de idividualization). At the end u can see all de people OWNED by Derren... it was really funny watching their faces

  • Also, some people really don't give a single fuck. Even after the lights are on, look at 4:19 for example. I think that if the experiment was done with a female the audience would never accepted some of the bad desitions they took for the guy. And everyone'd have made a terrible scene when she'd have gotten hitted by the car.

    No claps in the end.

  • If you listen carefully after the stuntman gets run over, the very seconds after it there are some people still laughing and cheering about it.

  • @bbbbbb222222 Brilliant observations.

  • @novitasx thank you.

  • It is shame that we human's are so cruel and evil, just for sake of entertaining ourself's. Just as it proove's that we judge people on even 1 mistake, and make them bad in our mind's, which give us excuse for doing bad thing's. It really is a shame, that we have the biggest brain's, and still not use it for normal thing's like not wanting to harm other people in any way. I did lost fate in people long time ago, and i am sad, that people keep proving that. We human's are just sad.

  • and gave it ovation alone in my house

    owsome

  • this was beautiful

I knew it was a trick but I genuenlly was crying

  • was kinda weird cause no one clapped, lol.

  • Are WE part of the mob for being entertained at poor Chris' expense? Maybe Derren's experiment is on us as well...

  • @positivecrusader That's a very good point actually - well done !!

  • @positivecrusader I've always wondered this myself since you could see remnants of the experiment being run at the end of episodes or throughout the episodes themselves.

  • Wow. This was crazy. I didn't see that coming and Derren totally messed with my mind.

Thank you for uploading these for us in the states. We really appreciate it!

  • While there is substantial psychological research to support the whole "mob mentality" concept, I thought this program was flawed in a few aspects. First of all, Derren turned the audience against Chris from the very beginning with his intro video, where he was portrayed as...well, a douchebag. That makes people less sympathetic towards him. Second, they know it's a television show run by a large corporation. The last thing they want is a lawsuit, so they know nothing will ACTUALLY go wrong.

  • @ElmoPansy "he was portrayed as...well, a douchebag. That makes people less sympathetic towards him." -- Well, duh!... that was one of the best parts! XD

  • @Ibucrthis Granted, it was funny, but it creates a bias in the audience. If you really wanted to analyze this scientifically you would have to reduce bias as much as possible.

  • @ElmoPansy I agree, but in this case I think it was an essential part of the setting. If you're going to study how people behave in something akin to a witch-hunt, obviously there's going to be - strong - negatives bias involved.

  • @ElmoPansy .... Contrary, with scientifc methods, the more repetitive or large the number, it's much accurate... Take a look to "Math's: Law of great numbers" and I also tell u that cause I'm a physicist

  • @Jhanup It's not just about getting a large sample, though. The sample also has to be selected in an unbiased manner, which I doubt it was in this game show. And the experimenter (in this case, Derren) can't introduce his or her own bias (which he did automatically with the video at the beginning, and also throughout the show by showing more glee over the "evil" choices).

I'm a Biochemistry major myself, so I know about scientific testing. This "experiment" isn't very scientific at all.

  • U could tell me that bias would be less... it will be almost constant with a large number of persons... it's a random variable, that should be use in this psyychological (Social) experiment

  • Wow now my comment on the first video, makes even more since. Once again amazing work by Derren. And, thank you for uploading this. I don't get to watch Derren in the states.

  • @NickTick You are very welcome - Glad you enjoy them, they do make you think don't they ?

  • Neither you nor I believe anyone in that audience would ever vote for that man to ACTUALLY be harmed. It was a prank show, and they trusted Derren that all would turn out well in the end. They were abused to later be called a 'mob'. I call "FOUL". The fact that Derren's "mob" which HE CREATED didn't turn on him after he publicly shamed and castrated them proves that these people are not wicked or anything. No need to shame these harmless dupes.

  • @mouthyweasel he wasnt trying to prove that they were evil...he was proving that placing people in anonymity and a group changes the way they think. Derren didn't make the mob. He would've made the mob if he was giving two negative options to the audience but he gave a good and a bad one allowing the audience to act morally or as a "mob"

  • @Bloodflooder The curious point being made here is that humans can actually enjoy watching people suffer if they know it's a prank. That's a psychological curiosity unto itself. I doubt anonymity had anything to do with it. They were there to have fun, expecting to be part of a prank show that would ultimately end well for the 'victim'. Mischievousness & social conformity is NOT the same thing as MOB mentality. While failing to make any valid point Derren publicly shamed fans who love him.

  • @mouthyweasel Obviously there could be no harm* involved, but I still think that the escalation process was very well demonstrated, especially what with the invasion of privacy. It all also shows just how easily people can be fooled into thinking that what they're doing is alright. *No harm? Even for a TV show, you have to admit that for an unsuspecting victim, being told he that was fired while taken to a police station and THEN attacked by thugs must be causing an unacceptable level of stress.

  • @Ibucrthis Agreed. The invasion of privacy was unconscionable. I'll not sit here and defend man's apish predilections for cruelty. Still, I believe the game show setting renders any possibly useful information about mob mentality invalid due to a contextual incongruity. Audience was misled as they were SURE everything was going to turn out well. All in good (albeit questionable) fun. A mob forms because of indignation, anger, fear, etc. Different dynamics. The audience was abused. Oh well.

  • @mouthyweasel I think it illustrated the phenomenon pretty well. Remember, this is about how differently people behave under the cover of anonymity - when their actions are diluted, so to speak, in those of all the people around them. Do you think that many people would have voted for the kidnapping had they been the only person to vote, in full view of everyone else? Game or not, the stress of the victim and the cruelty of the vote would've been more striking in a 1 (or 5, say) vs 1 situation.

  • @Ibucrthis Basically, what you're admitting to is that YOU would feel more comfortable voting in favor of atrocities if only your face could be hidden. I don't think that little of you. You shouldn't think it of yourself.

  • @mouthyweasel I theorize that anonymity had nothing to do with people's decisions. This isn't damning evidence. This is data. But there needs to be much more data before we can say this "phenomenon" exists. A theory must be falsifiable... meaning... it needs to be challenged. To say we have ANY answer at this juncture is irresponsible.

  • @mouthyweasel Hmm, I fail to see how you came up to that conclusion.. Now I don't want to paint myself more righteous than I am, but I thought that to tell him that he was to be fired was already too much (gotta remember too that they could have made his day and then some - that'd have been equally entertaining to me). - On the other hand, I agree with you that this isn't outright "damning evidence", but for this one time, a 66% vote in favor of a very cruel prank is enough to be perplexed to me

  • @Ibucrthis I came to that conclusion by virtue of whiskey. A lot of whiskey. Last night was host to a run down little holiday called Halloween. "More honor'd in the breach than the observance." Anyway, I was watching scary movies, drinking cheap whiskey, and apparently having some sort of heated ethical discussion about the antics of Derren Brown.

My sincere apologies, especially if I offended you at all.

    oooooohhhhhh..... my head.

  • @mouthyweasel Hahaha, ok! No, no offense taken, I was just a bit puzzled. I actually enjoyed our exchange, and I was totally unsuspecting! Hope you're feeling better by now!

  • @Ibucrthis :-) Thank you. Much better.

  • Thank you soo much for uploading. I was wondering if he was working on a new show. Very profound. Even though most of the situations were amusing. I felt sorry for the guy when it came to the arrest and being kidnapped. Ofcourse I thought he was hit by the car. I had to remind myself that this was about the audience and Derren wouldn't let something like that really happen.

    Derren is outstanding as allways.

  • 3:10 shit just got real

  • I think I would have gone for the negative options up until the arrest. To that point it was just a laugh, and of course you're gonna vote for the girl to accuse him of touching her, because that's more entertaining and it's small potatoes. But making someone go thru an "arrest" and getting "fired" and taking joy in the actual legit breaking of his property would just be morally beyond me. They really did forget that the guy was an actual human being. Very potent. Brilliant tv.

  • Thanks so much for the upload

  • That was phenomenal. What an incredibly profound illustration of mob mentality that was.

Thanks for uploading as always, computersolutions164.

  • Sad response at the end. It made the audience think.

  • interesting how at the beginning he said the percentage the voted (81% of you say let the girlfriend have her bum pinched) to now..'the majority'...i wonder if it had gone down dramatically like to 50/60% and i agree with the person belong...this week was uncomfortable.

  • @simplybecky01 That may be true, but remember everyone cheered and counted down for the tv to get smashed and stuff. The majority got smaller, but the mob still existed. I agree, quite uncomfortable though. I bet the audience was a bit upset after with such a mix of emotions.

  • @TheUsedMagician Derren did warn us that this social experiment was aimed at the audience rather than Chris and when they ran the kidnap insert and showed the stuntman bouncing off the car bonnet, the look of utter shock on some of the faces as they removed their masks was palpable.

  • When he did The Heist (robbery) or The Assassin (murder) the ride was exciting, fun, puzzling and intriguing, although the subject matter was a bit disturbing. This week was just uncomfortable. We all know about mob mentality and after 5 minutes it was like "We get it Derren, we get it". Not much to enjoy here this week and all I felt was an unwelcome message of "Bow your head in shame, viewer, because you too have the potential for being bad".

Not for me, this one but thanks for sharing.

  • There is a couple of things that derren brown didnt POINT OUT..which is ,ultimately it is about responsibility ..in the face of society .we all are victims of critique and then ultimately the all important 'image'..one LEADS to the OTHER..All he did was just remove that out of the thinking process..while simultaneously holding himself and the show itself responsible for what happened..Ppl here just werent indulging in their evil sides .they were indulging in a taboo.hope that made som sense

  • This reminds me of "Rhythm 0" (art performance) where the artist, Marina Abramović, was given up by the audience. The audience could give her pleasure or abuse her with the objects on a table.

What did the audience do? It started innocent enough, but as the performance progressed, it became more life threatening. When the performance finished, she walked though the audience and the response was that they didn't want anything to do with it.

  • It's very thought provoking, which is of course why we all love Derren's darker work so much as to what we all are capable of doesn't it ?

Glad you are all enjoying them so far....

  • leaves a bad taste in the mouth. even start making people doubt about values of democracy. it's not Derren though, just the realization of the way our brain is engineered. so positively inspiring. loved this series

  • I am so grateful for your channel. My friend first introduced me to Derren watching the heist and I have bought quite a few of his dvds since. This show along with his interview with Dawkins and so many other programs go to show that Derren has perfected analyzing the mind, but he has a heart and tries to ruin idiots who con people and what Derren does is just entertain. Once again thank you so much from someone in Canada who can't watch Derren live, but this is the best we have.

  • @cliff1987 Thanks I appreciate that, glad you like them

  • Respond to this video... Apparently he is doing one called "Guilt Trip" next week - but I won't spoil it, you'll have to wait and see.....

  • @cliff1987 Not just entertain, he teaches by example. He could stand there and tell us about mob mentality, or fraudulent psychics, but few would believe him or understand. So he shows us instead. I think this guy has a huge heart

  • They're sitting there like, oh shit, we've been bad

  • Never read the comments before you finish watching the video!

  • @anthonylui ABSOLUTELY AGREE SIR - GOOD POINT !!!!!!

  • WOW. For a brief moment I actually thought he got hit by the car. I was like, OH SHIT.

  • @TranceTrap Yes I thought that too, for a moment and then thought

"Hang on this is Derren Brown we are watching".

Had me fooled for a moment - Well done Derren !!!

  • @TranceTrap He had me fooled for a moment , I was on the edge of my seat but then I thought

Hang on this is Derren after all and everything might not quite be as it seems.

  • @computersolutions164 I thought the guy was an actor himself just playing the part for the audience. The fact that their mob mentality affected a real person makes it hit just that bit harder.

  • holy shit awesome show

  • wow we are evil.

  • Thank you so much for uploading these videos. This really makes you realize how much evil we are all capable of.

  • @LaSenoritaManzana I think that was the idea, it does make you think, espceially when you watch all those old war clips of the crowds going wild in say for example Hitlers presence - you now understand why !

  • @LaSenoritaManzana Yes we certainly are an evil bunch of b***ards - when we are put in a crowd aren't we ?

  • That was intense, amazing, and really uncomfortable to watch.

Thank you very much for the upload. Very good watch.

  • @natepepin09 I was starting to find it a little uncomfortable to watch. The thing is I wanted to carry on watching out of curiosity and found myself agreeing with the decisions made. I think Derren proved a valuable point with this one, which as he says explains perfectly why reality TV is so popular when you have an "audience vote" element.
