God bless her work, she is one of the exquisite ones, and what a great exponent for the grand tradition. That said, I avoid her interviews now. They must pay her a lot of money to say the rubbish she's spewing.
This performance is the entire reason I started studying opera to begin with. Renata Scotto has been in inspiration in studying this piece for years. Goodness bless her soul.
This homely golden-hearted Mimi moves me to tears as I know what fate awaits her. Renata Scotto is pure love and this performance truly captures Mimi's essence. Thanks for posting this piece of pure poetry.
I'm surprised to see this. I read somewhere that she couldn't stand Pavarotti and refused to perform with him. Must have been later. But his body language at the beginning of this aria says a lot. He has his arms crossed. And there's absolutely no communication between them.
Mamma mia! Puccini, Big Luciano, Renata Scotto, Maestro Levine, Maestro Pierluigi Pizzi (scenografie)... mmm che bello essere Italiani e godere ogni parola... come se fosse tua! QUESTO rende orgoglioso l'italiano ....
I love this Mimi! I added this to my favorites. Although they really could've fitted the dress better--in this way, the dress is too tight and makes her look plumper than she ought to be. If the dress were looser, she would actually look slimmer.
I am sorry..but while this is good..It doesnt not compare to Renata's si chiamano. No one can beat how big and controlled her voice is in that aria..especially at the climax of the aria (3:17) when she sings way over the orchestra.
She forgot you a long time ago too. What a stupid, immature, unintelligent thing to say. If that's the way you feel, and that's only way you can convey it, then shut the hell up and move on. What a true imbecile you truly are.
haha, your comment sure is stupid. first of all, she can't forget me if she doesn't know me, my comment was neither stupid immature or uninteligent because it was a personal statement, and why should i shut up? my comment pertained to this video. it is of tebaldi not scotto. and how am i an imbecile? Your comment makes no sense. and furthermore, this is scotto and you're talking of tebaldi and by youtube terms, that's spamming, so stfu. thanks.
Obviously, you're unable to grasp the concept of irony. Saying she "forgot about you is a tongue-in-cheek statement You're comment about Tebaldi was indeed stupid and immature -in very poor taste. Saying you "forgot Tebaldi a long time ago" has nothing to do with Scotto now does it?
See the logic in that? I doubt it. This video is of "Tebaldi"? I suggest you take a look - it's Scotto here I believe. If your comment pertained to this video, then why are you making a comment about Tebaldi? That's stupid, and I accurately called you stupid.
That leaves you squarely in the most minutely possibly group of people who would refer to one of the greatest lyrico spinto voices of this century. The one that every conductor from Serafin to Boehm considered stupendous and unmatched. I doubt they forgot about Tebaldi, and if that's your opinion, write it on a thread that pertains to Tebaldi, and further embarrass yourself.

She had the most beautiful voice for Mimi.

Although my favorite Mimi is de los Angeles, this is wonderful. Every word so clear and full of meaning.

she has the most resonant and projecting of all you tube versions, but I would prefer a less powerful and more sweet version!
anthonya13 2 years ago
Mirella Freni projects more, but I too prefer a softer Mimí, like Tebaldi or Callas. But I still give this five solid stars.

Callas softer than Freni? Really?

Softer not in terms of volume, but in terms of character.

miaobauaugh 1 year ago
@miaobauaugh : Si, anche se riteneva che la Freni fosse più attenta a nn "disattendere" le direttive di Karajan.
Grazie. ciao Karin

This Mimi is evidently very enchanting and very full of life. Whoever sang this--Renata Scotto--should get an award for singing Mimi's role so well.

it's not about singing over the orchestra, but yes she has wonderful control of her beautiful instrument.
