  • I had the privilege of attending the July 20th performance of this show. This concert was head-and-shoulders above any other concert I had ever seen (including many other Yes concerts). For the terminally curious, Kansas opened up for them with Steve Walsh (!) on vocals.

Can anyone tell me where I can get the DVD?

  • @TheCissmjg wow...Steve and Kansas opening!...I agree Ciss...where can I get the DVD! That must have been an awesome show

  • Just so many great memories of this music and all associated with it. I am so glad I was and still am a Yes fan

  • This is a great song, which kind of reminds me of a band I've heard a few days ago, Aperco. Hear the similarity at their channel apercoband

  • I was born in 1978. I can't imagine my life without YES.

Jon Anderson is my second father!!!

  • Amazing group, incredible voice, incredible music. Yes is probably the best group in rock history, I believe, from this side of the world.

    LONG LIFE YES!

    Claudio, Argentina

  • @claudiocorradini True very true

  • @NAD041158 Sorry, but I've never heard of a TV series called A Family At War. I was born in '73 so I didn't get into Yes' music until, you guessed it, 90125. So, I had to go backwards to their 70's stuff. In other words, the movie I saw, or think I saw, probably came out early 80's to early 90's. Thanks for trying though.

  • @svanur75 I don't think I've ever seen "Highlander" more than once, if that. I don't think that's it, although it could be. The chord resolution, if you will, makes me think of something like "E.T." which is why I mentioned John Williams. Oh well, maybe I'll find out one of these days.

  • drewper73 The music you are thinking of, could be the theme from the TV series,

A Family At War, aired on ITV from 1970 to 1972. The music is from the First Movement of Vaughn Williams Sixth Symphony, and I remember the first time that I heard Gates (Soon), back in '74, I just knew that I had heard something, that sounded the same.

It just might be the same music, you are thinking of?

  • Simply...WONDERFUL.....

    Jack, from Brazil YESFAN♥

  • The chord changes at 5:16 to 5:20 remind me of the score of some movie I've seen. They do it again about 20 seconds later. I've definitely heard that same chord progression, or a progression very similar, in a movie. I think this song was written first. I've seen a lot of movies that came out before this album (1974), but the score/movie I'm thinking of came out in the 80's or 90's. I'll keep my ears open. It might be a John Williams score. I don't know.

  • @drewper73 ...i guess you mean "Highlander", do you? :) Queen copied (copied!) each single note, closing part of the track "Who wants to live forever".

  • Delirando com o gatézimo do Rafael...................Que dor no coração.Amar profundamente dói.......

  • Master playing a masterpiece

  • Among all the music I know, this piece is well above the best (as is the album), with only a couple of musics touching our spine, like some of the Pink Floyd and Genesis best issues...

I've only seen this guies once in Portugal (a decade ago) and I just loved it!

  • Thanks God and Thanks JON for having this unique , incredible voice, he is an angel on earth.

JON´S RULES ¡¡¡¿, YES WITHOUT JON ANDERSON IS NOT YES ¡¡¡¡

    Regards from Argentina, Arthur

  • @bigua1428 de todas formas lo pienso ver, como mi unica oportunidad quizas de verlos en vivo y atrapar algo de magia

  • He's a Genius, realy i liked

  • Eric Clapton?? Sheesh. He's a kindergartner compared to Master Howe. Besides, Clapton's music bites wangus.

  • Actually, Igor was doing fine, but then his immature ego got carried away backstage and he assaulted a girl. Jon and Chris didn't want that kind of publicity so they promptly booted Igor's arse out of the band.

  • Jon Anderson is a genius

  • Does anyone know who's playing keyboards at this performance? I don't know what Patrick Moraz looks like, but I'm guessing it's not him (he looks far too young for one thing). Anyone?

  • @BggProductions Igor Koroshev. Then he fell off the face of the earth.

  • @donnieandsarah Thank you.

  • Greatest live Yes video I've seen/ superb performance!!!

  • YES - THE BEST BAND EVER!

  • Stunningly beautiful music.... All hail Yes

  • Wonderful. This song was always a big part of my life from the first time I saw Yes play it in 1975 at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, NJ. A different time & place for sure!

  • i always found the lyrics too this song strange, because they're so normal!!! normally jons lyrics are steeped in metaphor and personal meaning but with the gates of delirium its a very clear story about a war, it is a true masterpiece

  • Amazing...magical!!!

    Jack,from Brazil

  • Please stand up ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ an angel come to earth to sing for us.

    Regards

    Arthur from Argentina

  • yep!..Jon is surely a messenger of angelic beauty..makes us feel alive..our reason to be here..

    Dave

    Shetland

  • @SnowyOwl1959 - I so agree with that Snowy.

  • My God , this music and the terrific voice of JON transport me to another world, Long live to JON ANDERSON never stop singing. Arthur from Argentina--

YES WITHOUT JON ANDERSON IS NOT YES. ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • Yes...one word: incredible

  • what does each part of the song represents? (i divide it in the first sung part the instrumental and the last sung part)

  • The first part is like the battle speech (think Braveheart). The inst. is the battle, and "Soon" is peace.

  • Best part!!!

  • that song -

  • This part of the Gates of Delirium is the best musical experience I´ ve listened in my whole life. Thanks God for YES and...

If Clapton is God What about Steve Howe???

  • who's Clapton?

  • @williamsj3

Eric Clapton, was in Yardbirds on the 60s and is regarded by many as one of the best guitar players ever..... personaly i see Steve Howe as the god of rock guitar

  • @yotuveful Clapton sucks..lets see..'Cocaine', 'Lay down Sally (ugh!), Layla (sheeit!)

'Wonderful Tonight (lame fail times 2), and his little weenie whiney stupid voice..just the most overrated piece of shit in the music industry (besides Elton John, U2 and Bono..we musn' t ignore them) . No, Claptrap is not God..although he has delusions of grandeur that he is .

Steve Howe is a master craftsman, as is everyone in Yes..needless to say..and they did what they wanted to do, fuck the critics !

  • @yotuveful You see this is how you YES is special...When people say things like.."This is the most amazing musical experience in my whole entire life. YES I've had that moment many times with others and then I'd go to a YES show and then I'd be taken to a whole other level of transcendence.

  • @yotuveful He's Jesus

  • AMEN

  • Indeed Relayer is a materpiece

  • This is the version of "Gates Of Delirium" that I like most, I think that it's even better than the one with Moraz on Keyboards. I have to say that I don't know much about Igor Khoroshev... but on this video he plays with a really beautiful and sweet sound.

And for the other Yes members... THEY'RE GREAT as usual!

  • Wonderous!..thank you so much..magical music..!..this is a super recording..Jon sounds awesome..and Chris's bass notes all come through..

    and Steve...Chris..Igor...all brilliant!

  • In fact, Relayer is better than Tales(not saying I don't like Tales), because Relayer must be one of the top 5 all-time rock albums(Personally, it's my # 1)...IT'S A MASTERPIECE

  • Got that right about #1. I've seen the Beatles, the Stones, Moody Blues, the Who, even Majavishnu Orchestra, etc. (sorry no Greatful Dead). Relayer is my favorite of all time, and this tune my greatest live experience as a member the audience.

  • TALES is more experimental, some parts of which work better than others. RELAYER is better conceived, more coherent and overall, better constructed. TALES is interesting, but RELAYER is a masterpiece. And this is one hell of a performance. Thanks you.

  • this is from another world...

    WONDERFUL!!!

    jack,from Brazil

  • "Gates of delirium" is one of the few pieces of music I really would like to hear over the PA of a 100.000 seater stadium, sitting alone in the middle at midnight with a some candles on.

    Ah, the dreams.

  • equal to a mahler symphony!

  • 29:15 MINUTES OF GREATNESS

  • YES;OUR REASON TO BE HERE

  • Absolutely! We agree

  • "soon" is genial

I do not know how to describe it, it feels so good after so many synthesized sounds

THE GATESOF DELIRIUM is a perfect and complete song

  • Bless you my friend!

  • How would you rate it compared with Tales from Topographic Oceans ?

  • Tales... is an album more extended, more religious, more harmonious and less crazy I think also

Relayer is more pronounced, synthesized, progressive...

    I think

  • Comparing is hard because TALES is magnificent in it's own right! Relayer is definitely more edgy and Jazzier. Chris's forceful bass parts run deep throughout. Tales is more hypnotic in a dreamy spiritual manner. I couldn't really choose one over the other. In fact along with CTTE they are most brilliant pieces of music by a Rock band ever written

  • Jon's a dreamer; a truly gifted surrealistic musical painter of images. His musical ideas must be simple because, he doesn't seem to be an exceptional musician. But, then...when the rest of them take his seed of music and lyrics it germinates into these great pieces of music. You are so right...there has never been anyone like them in rock music...many emulators but, nobody has come close to their level of composition or technical prowess...except Eddie Van Halen....maybe. Bet he loves Yes, too.

  • Gives me chills.

  • GATES is possibly the best epic in all of Rock. And Soon is one of the prettiest and sweetest of all time! Agin thank GAWD for YES. To have been born in any other era and have missed this band would have been a shame

  • GATES and SUPPER'S READY by GENESIS are so damn prophetic song to me I hold them dear to my hearts too.

  • @wigginsdesign Who' s GAWD ?

It' s GOD ...that' s the name you are looking for..

ya might want to aplogize to him .

  • @scitsalcoryp

i use GAWD as simply as an expression & not as a homage or slight to the Great Architect

  • @wigginsdesign

It is strange one might think that we are a quite a few that realizes that. True fantastic EPIC music - THE best song ever to be made ;-)

  • @tevevid Yes it is quite fascinating that we few that get it are profoundly effected by it. It's truly beyond the level of what most music listeners experience. Maybe i'm being a bit to presumptous but when I listen to fans talk about YES its very different than discussions about most other group...some Jazz or classical artist maybe the exception

  • @wigginsdesign tell me about it, i live in this shitty era, the year i got borned kurt cobain died, pink floyd broke up, justin gayber was born too, and many other shits

i should die, but i rather listen to music

  • @SebaChannel heh..janis died...jimi died...keith died...get used to it and stop bitching..and "borned"...wtf does that mean?

  • Just when you think it could not get any more passionate -- it begins with a whisper, then a hymn, and finally a slow circling dance. Beautiful! Thank you!

  • annwags it's gratifying to know that others who walk this earth enjoy this music in similar ways - that a community of folks keep YES music alive.

  • Mint

  • Yes!! Bravo! This is FANTASTIC! I think this is the best live video of Gates. The recordingpeople had obviously a very good ear because the audio is almost perfect, much better than the Symphonic DVD. And what a performance ! Thanks so much for putting this whole show on Youtube!

  • A good version. Thanks.

  • perfect musicians in their best. Magic

  • Yes not just close to the edge of their (top) quality creating a piece of music that will last forever as one of the best compositions ever made by human beings !
