  • Fantastic movie. The black and white really sets the tone of the film. One question though. what is Debbie saying right before Ian says "who do you think?" Sounds like she's saying "who's the writer there?" or something like that...

  • the past few days i've been thinking of corbjin's imagery of joy division as an inspiration for some photography for school. Only just checking him out now but he already seems a fucken genius.

  • he is the closest to god, VIVA all kind of rock, punk, metal etc 4EVER, I'm from Mexico you couldn't imagine all the shit music that there are here I hate mexican music, english and american rock music are the best.

  • Sam Riley did an amazing job in playing Ian Curtis. He even sang like him.

One of the best films I have ever seen.

  • the BEST music-movie i have ever seen!!!! passion,love,tears,hate,sickness,depression,feelings,......a BIG movie!!!!

IAN CURTIS is an ICON!!! if your love is dying, this movie and the music is the 2nd wave of destruction! after this, NOTHING, is like it was before!!!

  • every scene,sound,just cooool.

  • I loved this film. Made me an instant fan of a band I didn't grow up listening to.

  • Genius

  • Amazing.

  • bloody movie

  • <3

  • Big dog's cock.

  • "..He waved it in front of the camera like this.." I loved that part. Otherwise, I really liked this movie. I've heard of Joy Division before, but then after watching this, I kicked myself in the ass for never bothering to check them out. You don't even have to know the band to actually like the movie, hell, you'll probably go listen to "Love will tear us apart" once the movie is done.

  • Ugh. What a boring, self-absorbed waste of time. I grew up in the 70's and 80's. I was a fan of New Order. I listened to their music DURING THE ERA IT WAS RELEASED! I see no point in this movie. When are movie bio's ever in the least bit interesting? Never! Rather than making a movie that might have celebrated Ian's art and life, we wind up this drivel instead. You think he would have been happy knowing this piece of shit is how his art will be memorialized?

  • @rofyle i actually agree. Sam Riley is a decent actor but why would you bother watching a cast of actors basically LYING and ACTING as opposed to listening to and watching the real deal, Joy Division, and the only Ian Curtis.

  • @slangshotstudios Well, you can listen to a limited amount of Joy Division songs, and what...they have like 5 videos of them playing, that's it. This movie is very informative for those wishing to know Curtis' life a little before Joy Division and during. It's funny as you act like a tribute movie is a bad thing. Your's and rofyle's comments are nonsense.

  • that dude looks so much like ian curtis

  • @bridgefrancis6 looks more like pete doherty

  • langweilig und von marlboro anscheinend gesponsort worden den massenmörder persönlich

  • Fuck the 30 dislikes

  • @imaginenovel I absolutely agree with you, my point was simply that it's funny how the story changes depending on who tells it. Even Annik is supposedly portrayed differently, according to the book she was a tenacious demanding cow who actually wasn't terribly nice to Ian. But as I said I absolutely agree with what you said, we will never know what went on his mind but personally I think if he had lived he would have been diagnosed with some kind of 'Disorder'! lol

  • I also think that Annik had a wonderful body. o.O She was very beautiful. This trailer sort of shows the whole movie though (sadly).

  • @fufufuyen The real Annik looked nothing like the movie-version Annik.

  • Spoilers:

A great movie, and a wonderful Ian look-alike. His singing was not completely the same but was good, and I completely teared up when "Love Will Tear Us Apart" started playing. I'm still confused though about why he committed suicide (although I suspect it has to do with him being stuck between his career and his girlfriends) but the movie did not make it clear at all...he looked exactly like Ian in the LWTUA music video shoot. I'd say the actor was a lot better than the film.

  • @fufufuyen It was 100% clear why he did what he did. If you didn't see that in the film, then you didn't watch the film at all. He was lost and actually didn't fit in with the band; he was also lost in his personal life and didn't fit in there either - where else was there for him to go?

  • Control. One of our favourite movies of all time!

  • The trailer cuts off just before the lyrics of the song. So I belted them out myself. WAAAALKK IN SIIIIILENCE...

  • @scottalias, the big thing left out was the fact that Ian Curtis in reality was a narcissistic, abusive, hypocritical control freak. Dont get me wrong I love Joy Division and Control but read Debbie Curtis' book and your view of Ian Curtis will be changed dramatically!

  • @soon2bmrsk the book was merely inspiration for the film. everything collected about Ian Curtis is biased, and we will never know what really went on in his fantastic but neurotic mind of his. it's always important to remember that Ian was an actual person with real human emotions and behaviors, and that shouldn't necessarily be looked down upon because it only emphasis how imperfect he was and in truth shows glimpse on who he was as an individual without the band Joy Division added to his name

  • JOY DIVISION!! WE LOVE YOU Ian Curtis!!

  • This is so bloody embarrassing that Sam Riley haven't won an Oscar for this role!

Academy Award - Die! because you didn't appreciate this film!!!

One of the best Biography Movies of all time.

  • Saw this last night. It was very good but I can't help thinking something very important was left out.

  • @scottalias I agree. I think it was the reasoning behind his suicide; the movie was rather vague, and filled in with paste if I could say it any worst. It was a good two hours but I believe it could have been better.

  • I just saw this recently...one of my new favorites.

  • Get Fucked Asshole !

  • no matter how close anybody was to ian, all they could do was touch him from a distance

  • enjoy that 150k ;)

  • best film ever. Ian Curtis is my idol

  • We cannot (to my knowledge) get this DVD in Australia. WHY!

  • OMG where kin a git that hate jacket

  • @mat1873

same place he did- make it

  • As both a movie fanatic and a music fanatic, this film is a true dream!

  • Fuck, "Never say Never" Justin Bieber cant match ever Ian Curtis, Justin is just some stupid pop Icon artist... Ian is a legend.

Who wants to see a movie about a 16 year old spoiled canadian kid?!.

I'd rather see a movie about a tormented and depressed genius who took his life bacuase of the cruelty in the world... Whitch you can hear in his beatifull art known as music...

  • @demmerfreak Best thing I've seen someone say in a long time.

  • @demmerfreak omg, why did you have to bring up that kid on this forum, Ian Curtis FOREVER!

  • I've loved JD since my pre teens - I took a trip to Macclesfield in early 2007, and that along with the release of Control later in the year, inspired me to write 'Monochrome', which I've now posted my demo of on my page - the lyrics are about Ian and I feel the style is indebted to JD.

  • 29 people don't have control

  • @killface2021 erm, dvd? thoroughly suggest buying it. its really good (:

  • where can i find this movie? any suggestions? anyone?

  • @killface2021 Let me watch this has it, or you can probably find the DVD quite cheap :)

  • Brilliant music and performances all round.

  • Me and my mates watched this while completely baked, noone said anything for the entire film, we basked in its glory.

  • @foals0995 you are totally a deep, thinking, genuine person with a unique perspective.

  • joy divison, my religion.....Very good movie. But in negative thing is that a smoked amye 12 cigs while i was looking at it :D..Ian. what a smoker ? :D...

  • The best

  • the end is so sad !

  • ian is my idol, seeing this movie for the 2nd time with more attention made me cry and i dont cry easy, RIP Ian Love tore you apart

  • what is it really about lol? i dont see a point of story

  • the best music bio film i have seen so far! I enjoyed Ian helping the boy with down syndrome find employment! "I like to eat & watch telly" <----Who doesn't? LOL.

Although I wish they had played more depressive songs from Closer such as "Decades" & "Eternal" It would have given the film a realistic depth with the music. Not saying the film wasn't emotionally deep but I'm sure it would have worked!

  • @killforfiend i see what your saying and i had an idea at the end when they played atmosphere i thought if they screw this up it will just ruin the movie but its fitted well. But i see what your saying :)

  • @ProductsFromTheBrain thank you! :)

  • I love this movie. I got it in the DVR and I watched at least once a week

Sam Riley even that doesn't look like Ian, his performance is amazing..... Just my opinion

  • I ADORE THAT SHIT!!! Thx Corbijn, what would the world do without you ?

  • There's something odd about this trailer, even though I have watche dit multiple times I love watching it other and other again.. it's weird

  • can anyone tell me what version of she's lost control that is?

  • @0mgwtfbbq21 This is from an album 'Substance'.

  • Great movie. Sam Riley did a great job.

  • 28 people lost control again

  • 28 people have no taste at all

  • this was the first film that showed me what it means to be really shocked and touched.

  • i am IAN CURTIS. i have the warner subsidiary contract to prove it. i am IAN.

  • Is the whole film in black and white? o.O

  • @Dunkzzz95 Yes

  • I cried at the end. Been listening to Joy Division since I was 14, in 1990. Now, I will never hear them the same again.

  • un de mes meilleurs film

  • I think Sam Riley is not like Ian Curtis, Ian have limp hair not black hair, and he have clears eyes

  • Didn't care to much for Control.. I prefer 24 hr party people it seemed more real, deep and simple over this one.

  • does anyone know from where i could get a stream? a

  • @TheDiaina Go buy it.

  • sam is fucking beautiful man!!

  • sam is fucking beautiful!!

  • I WANNA SEE IT AGAIN NOW NOW NOW ! fuck

    it's been too long

this movie & trailer is so f*cking beautifull

  • did Sam Riley do all the singing himself?

  • So good that it's in black and white. The music sounds black and white.

  • coś pięknego...

  • best movie ever....sam riley is amazing

  • best movie ever....sam riley is amazing

  • Sam Riley's performance as the legendary Ian Curtis is just simply stunning:-)

  • is this based on all events what happend?

  • @skaterpanny

    ..watch the film?

  • @skaterpanny It's based primarily on Debbie Curtis' biography of Ian "Touching From A Distance" - it does miss stuff out, and it is a little two dimensional at times, but still a good movie in my opinion.

  • i've watched this movie 3 times. I luv it so much

  • ian <3

  • Gee Ian, did your decision have to be so final??? Miss You.

  • l watch this movie ,,OMG WHAT CAN l SAY.. very sensitive

  • i want to see this film so badly! i bloody love joy division

  • didnt think much of it, but i was impressed.

started off a bit slow but really got me by the time it hit the middle.

intense acting by the leads. super.

  • Fuck conservatives cutting down majorly on british film.

    British film is the shit.

  • It was difficult for me to feel empathy for his character in this movie. I just wanted to shake him and say: "Stop fucking up your life dude!" Shows what I know about mental illness.

  • @Pickwickmusic Well, no one ever actually said he was mentally ill. I could feel empathy for him if I tried hard enough, but I didn't feel any sympathy at all- he treated his wife so badly and seemed completely indifferent to his own child, to me he seemed like a selfish, whiny sniveling brat too weak and passive to tackle problems that all had reasonable solutions.

  • Anton Corbijn made this beautifull picture

no other man could've done it like this i'm sure

& what a way for people to get back into this music

a major reminder to waken these stubborn heads filled with shitty music

    i f*ckin dig it

  • whats the song at the beginning of the video?

  • @davidaird1984 it is "she's lost control" by joy division

  • Great biopic!! Sam Riley as Ian Curtis is a very good choice! He did a great job. Joe Anderson who played Hooky in Control is my favourite choice to play the lead role in the upcoming Kurt Cobain biopic. And Toby Kebbell to play Dave Grohl. I've made a fictional film cover of the upcoming biopic. It serves as a casting suggestion. Check out my channel to watch the video...

  • this film stays with you, absolutly gripping and amazing!

  • Such a Journey

  • definitivamente la tengo que ver... esto es arte y no mamadas...

i have to watch this... this is art and no bullshit

  • Did I detect a Glaswegian accent at 0:11? Sooo cute, LOL!!

  • love, love will tear us apart again,

ademas de enterarme de su tragica historia, como me acuerdo la primera vez que en que escuche LOVE WILL TEAR US APART, JOY DIVISION fue el inicio de todo!!!

  • I thought the lead singer was homosexual?

  • I wonder what is the title of song in 9-10th minute of film when Ian go wiv Debie to see David Bowie's concert, please re-write:)

  • @sznapi1993 I want the title of this song too, please write me if mau know it now! :)

  • @notfamousgirl91 ok i found it out - it's david bowie- the jean genie - enjoy!

  • Absolutey brilliant! Sam Riley is fantastic in this role.... not to mention bloody gorgeous

  • So sad at the end of the film.

  • He could play Pete Doherty!

  • I'm so proud that Anton Corbijn made this all :D (I'm Dutch)

  • Great movie. The book is very good too, apart from the fact that Debbie tries to make herself out as a saint and a victim... manipulative bitch.. no wonder Ian hung himself.

  • I've just seen the film and i think its fair to say that it totally blew my mind.. its amazingly directed and photographed and has a lot to say. it could have easily been ruined by bad acting performance, but the actors did a great job - so did the director. loved it! and will always love joy divison

  • how can i get a copy of this movie. i mean do they sell it at stores or what the bloody hell

  • a masterpiece!

  • Damn it i keep forgetting the song that starts at the beginning of 1:07

Does anyone know what its called?

  • @cutler12345

Haha sometimes i try not to XD

  • é linda esta música!...

  • An incredible film

  • Perfect movie. You could hang each scene in a wall. Perfect band, music, leadsinger. Ever.

  • GET OUT!

  • this is the best biopic film ive ever seen

  • weird! they played my three favorite joy division songs in this trailer, in the correct order!!!

  • Joy Division + Alexandra Maria Lara = Epic win.

  • This movie is gorgeous!

  • I just saw this movie. It made me cry..

    Best movie ever.

  • @loser2356 My brother was a Joy Division fan, he hanged himself in 1994. He was just like Ian Curtis 23 years old. When I saw this movie the first time, when his wife is crying for help it made me cry too. And I'm not talking about tears in my eyes, it was more like an explosion.

  • @loser2356

    Im with you there.

First time i saw the film i was in tears.

  • I love how they use my favourite song of all time in the trailer.

  • Samanther Nortan was good in this, and a lot prettyer than the real Debbie, the real Debbie was a right dog, I'm not suprised Ian Curtis was shaggin that German bird on the quiet.

  • simply incredible movie...realy puts a story behind ian's songs and suffering. the actor that played him nails it. when i first saw the performances i thought they used real footage of JD

  • 0:23 ''I am a believer in Joy Division, Hallelujah!'' haha, exactly.

  • this movie became quickly one of my all time faves... its wonderful. the actors are incredibly good, oh my. its almost real. after seeing it i got a little depressing though, lol

  • such a good film the main actor is very excellent shame he lives in berlin now i think

  • Sam will KILL as Jack Kerouac in On The Road. Wait and see.

  • My god,

I love him and Joy Divisionn - and New Order too...

  • un de mes films préférés et un des meilleurs films fait sur le rock

  • graphiquement, le N&B est utilisé avec élégance et justesse! Vivement The American avec Clooney.

  • fuckin great great great movie and fuckin HISTORY! ! !

  • Great actor Sam!! His role is a real master piece!

  • the best music film i've seen...and so tragically

  • Sam Riley is GOD! That´s not an acting, it´s a POSESSSION!

  • Damn, I've forgotten the 2nd song is a Joy Division's song, I love it! Now I wanna watch this movie more than ever!

  • i saw this movie yesterday. and i just love how ian danced xD
