God damn I hate Gene Adam's vocals...thank christ for John, Matt and Tim and Matt again lol...and now that I have every song from Iced earth's self titled debut with Matt on vocals I never have to listen to gene again :)
Unlike Jack and Dracula, this is actually the same song as on Burnt Offerings. They aren't completely different songs. The Burnt Offerings version is a rearranged version of this with new lyrics. Essentially though, it's the same idea musically. It is similar to System Of A Down's PIG becoming Mr Jack over the course of 5 years.
Also Purgatory released a 2nd demo, Psychotic Dreams in 1986. No exclusives but it has a nice cover.
So uh... where did you get this? Forgive my skepticism, but this could be anything. It's stylistically different from the first Iced Earth LP, and it's sound nothing like the Burnt Offerings version.
I'm not calling you a fraud, but this is very suspicious.
Of course it sounds nothing like the Burnt Offerings version. They're two completly different songs. This one was recorded for the 1985 "Burning Oasis" demo back when the band still had the name "Purgatory". Gene Adams was the sing for the band up until after their first release under their new name, "Iced Earth".
Holy friggin' crap this is rare? How did you get a hold of something like this, because as far as I know, IE never released anything while they had the name Purgatory...
Actually, there are two known demos released under the name Purgatory. 1985 "Burning Oasis" Demo, and the 1986 "Horror Show" demo. Both tapes were produced very limitidely, and are considered to be the Holy Grails of Iced Earth collectables.
not bad at all but this is not 'burning oasis' in any way.

Is it just me, or doesn't it sound a little like Winter nights?

Btw. I think it's good that the song repeats one time, cause if you didn't really listen to it the first time, you can hear it again right after.;)
Platinum1050 3 years ago
Wow! This is rare! Awesome to hear some old "Purgatoried iced earth"!
Thanks for uploading, dude!
!!!PURGATORY!!!;)

Well, that is a good point. That definitely sounds like Gene Adams, and more so in the "In Jason's Mind" track.
As for the song itself... it's good. Not great, but good. I don't know how I feel about the lyrics, though.

You can hear that it is Gene Adams and Purgatory/Iced Earth is the only bands he has been in.
The reason they sound different is 'cause it's not the same song. Just the same title.

There was also Psychotic Dreams...but that was essentially Horror Show without Dracula.
