Goodness gracious! Have you never been to a PROFESSIONAL music competition where judges have set criteria and MUST mark ALL performers on these set guidelines? You should attend one - I highly recommend it. This is not envy and your attacks are distasteful and unwarranted. To have open-minded perspective is proper and necessary. Judges MUST also be equitable and fair toward ALL performers! Her cracking voice at the beginning is not that which can be attributed to a mere cold either.
I agree it wasn't her best performance, unless there was some technical difficulties; the judges didn't' comment on any off-key moments. You maybe right, Joshgibson, but you're listening to, and commenting on, her performance only, and not her wonderful voice; and whether you agree or not, in my opinion she's going to win!! She's an inspiration to the entire country, and her timing couldn't be better!
Memories was first sung in 1975 - check the UTube to find the old version available from Barbra Streisand's recording (when she was much younger) - may help clear things up for you and prove my point. Look up old recording you will see. . .
At that year 1975, Barbra was selling Long Plays (I am 54, so I have heard her). My point is that Barbra in 1975 got training to get her foot into the recording label. Susan is still waiting for a coach. Please, bring a audio from Barbra when she was a want-to-be and then we will compare similar stages
Barbra Streisand was leaps and bounds ahead of Susan Boyle even in her early years - no comparison here! Susan was way OFF KEY and not just at the beginning! She stated she was not nervous which does not bode well - if this is a performance she feels confident with, I would have cause to worry as her musical ear is evidently off!
With this type of singing, I suggest the CD be placed on hold. She did not look or sound confident. She started on the wrong foot from the start, missing the very first note, and from there on, the voice was shaky, with bad tone, wrong key, diction, timing, poor breath support, and control. I believe she had rehearsed a lot for this event but with no effect. Now we only have a karaoke bar performance with extreme hype! But I wish her the best.
Joshgibson, whether it's "of" the bandwagon, as you put it, or "off" -- you need to get "on" the bandwagon. More than the great Ella and the superbly talented Sarah, Susan is an inspiration for all of us and, as the judges remarked, for the whole world. I hope you will learn to appreciate this woman, her wonderful personality and the quality of her voice, which is as good or better than any of the greats.

I call it like I see it. I listen to vocal jazz so I'm used to great, flawless singers. It gets frustrating when everybody I talk to doesn't know Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan, but get all hyped up about this Susan Boyle character, a singer who pales in comparison to the true greats. It seems you have got all your thoughts completely arse up! Its the ones that EXTREMELY good looking that have the average voice in most cases because they are basing on the sexuality element of the singer and not any true talent.
If the woman did not have a good voice she would NEVER have made it, but if she had of had huge tits hanging out, grinded her arse all over the stage wearing 10 tons of makeup with an hour glass figure, then yep!! sign the record contract even though you cant sing.

To fail to see both sides of the medal is to fail to get a proper perspective and there is nothing wrong with people giving just comment as long as they do not unduly personally attack a performer. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Let me tell you, if you speak too loudly and overhype someone they can come crashing down from much higher later if things do not pan out in the future - I have seen this happen in the past and I say 'beware' in following the hype wave!

Goodness gracious! Have you never been to a PROFESSIONAL music competition where judges have set criteria and MUST mark ALL performers on these set guidelines? You should attend one - I highly recommend it. This is not envy and your attacks are distasteful and unwarranted. To have open-minded perspective is proper and necessary. Judges MUST also be equitable and fair toward ALL performers! Her cracking voice at the beginning is not that which can be attributed to a mere cold either.

I agree it wasn't her best performance, unless there was some technical difficulties; the judges didn't' comment on any off-key moments. You maybe right, Joshgibson, but you're listening to, and commenting on, her performance only, and not her wonderful voice; and whether you agree or not, in my opinion she's going to win!! She's an inspiration to the entire country, and her timing couldn't be better!

Memories was first sung in 1975 - check the UTube to find the old version available from Barbra Streisand's recording (when she was much younger) - may help clear things up for you and prove my point. Look up old recording you will see. . .

Barbra Streisand was leaps and bounds ahead of Susan Boyle even in her early years - no comparison here! Susan was way OFF KEY and not just at the beginning! She stated she was not nervous which does not bode well - if this is a performance she feels confident with, I would have cause to worry as her musical ear is evidently off!

With this type of singing, I suggest the CD be placed on hold. She did not look or sound confident. She started on the wrong foot from the start, missing the very first note, and from there on, the voice was shaky, with bad tone, wrong key, diction, timing, poor breath support, and control. I believe she had rehearsed a lot for this event but with no effect. Now we only have a karaoke bar performance with extreme hype! But I wish her the best.

I call it like I see it. I listen to vocal jazz so I'm used to great, flawless singers. It gets frustrating when everybody I talk to doesn't know Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan, but get all hyped up about this Susan Boyle character, a singer who pales in comparison to the true greats.
