openCL is open-sourced, AND ATi are releasing software to make kernels and are generally helpful in order to make openCL to run on their GPUs. I can't see where CUDA is better. It works, sure. But they're too exclusive..
Alot of people dont understand what is happening here it seems. It looks like just a bunch of lava yes however the point of CUDA is hard to show if you don't what it is. This lava flow is occuring by alot of mathmatical computations per second due to the large particle count. The CPU in computers often have problems with a dense calculation such as this. CUDA uses the available cores of the GPU the complete the large calulations. This can work in paralell with the CPU.
@mythril4 A bit off-topic, but I could might aswell point out that ATI is using openGL which is basically the same thing (Not an ATI fanboy or anything), but from a gamer/hobby developers perspective nvidia have taken the profitable and narrow-minded road, whereas ATI have been including and supporting on the same kind of computer-technology. They've been slightly better with openGL support in the later months but i still believe CUDA is getting either merged or made redundant.. :P
@DonBurroni Some people, mostly those with an eye for future technology, see through the monetary BS nvidia is pulling down over peoples heads.. Clearly you're not one of them:)
Close enough. Really, GPU is to CPU as Graphics Card is to Motherboard I would think, as the Graphics card not only incorperates the cores but the RAM etc. as well
Cuda currently runs on 8xxxx series and 9XXX series and the GTX260 and GTX280. It needs to be an Nvidai card as well (ati cant use Cuda...) You need Cuda drivers the CUDA SDK and Cuda tools to run the tests.... (there are premade ones with the SDK...) Also make sure that you use the Cuda drivers (180.60 is the current ones..) or quite a few of the tests will crash... You access those through the Get Cuda link for all of them drivers included. 180.60 are fantastic drivers either way though!!

can you add your own polygons or even better.. can you add your own animations into the scene and have the lava react with it?

Graphics Processing Unit. Formerly known as video cards.

@speedaddict2008 the GPU is the main processor in a graphics card. Graphics cards were formerly known as 3D video adapters.

Ah, I see what's going on. The liquid simulation runs REALLY slow, so they slap on a glowing procedural texture and call it lava.
It's still really impressive. Especially when the ball hits it and it sprays hundreds of pieces into the air.
