I really like Walter Williams,, and I thought Reason was in favor of Ron Paul as-well,,, But not Kathrine from Reason,,, her statement against Ron Paul is. "He Is Getting A Tremendous Amount Of Coverage For Someone That's Never Going To Be President"
What a shocking statement from this ignorant Reason Magazine Kathrine. WOW what a stupid bitch she is... Amazing to make such a stupid statement. My gosh!
@bjarnet3 I think your statement is FAR more stupid. Reason is libertarian. Ron Paul is also libertarian. That would be why they would favor Paul. However, the odds of Ron Paul getting the nominee is getting slimmer everyday. Acknowledging that fact doesn't mean your not in favor of him, it's accepting a reality. The fact that you called her a bitch shows what a narrow minded person you are.
@andrewh817 He probably just thinks they're ugly. His whole point is that discrimination is an inherent human trait and eliminating it is impossible. It drives the point home to mention that he discriminates against women he doesnt find attractive. We all do it.
Wow, reading through the idiotic comments here, you would have thought this was a big interview about race. Seriously, all the great info in the video and all people in here want to argue about is how blacks should follow Williams? No, AMERICA AS A WHOLE needs to follow William's example. Not just blacks. Just about all White Republicans and Democrats need to follow William's example. He's one of the few rare remaining people today who "Get It"
American colleges need to get-owned by the people of America.. not the bigots.
I appeal to you; watch "The American Way" on pbatusa channel. (that's me; so click on my user name) This is the real America; minus the propaganda, NLP and ignorant hate... It's; the truth. What a novel idea.
I think when he says discriminates against japanese and italian women he's talking about attraction. I discriminate not dating someone that's taller than me because I don't date them and they're not attractive to me. We all discriminate in some way or another, some ways are fairly harmless and other ways are fairly ignorant or phobic.
How come in college I NEVER see teachers talk about people like Walter E Williams. It's always all these liberal socialism people. People are so scared of privatization. Yes there is corruption in business, but unlike government I have a choice, if my bank is ripping me off I go to my local credit union. With government you have no choice and you have to do it their way. Also government is always corrupted, look at congress. When the mess up it;s just oops and they continue with the same crap.
@HayateAzekura I've noticed that the few conservative teachers on a given campus usually don't beat their students over the head with their personal opinions.
@AliceNchainz011 They really are not allowed to admit their views, anyone teaching capitalism would be fired. These people have been brainwashed with a completely revised history, kids in public high schools think that there were nine year olds working in the mines and mills in 1965 , and that if the EPA were closed everyone would die of cancer. Ask one of them what the name of an economic system where you get to own property, but government runs business.
Funny how in College i'm forced to read Piven and Cloward and not one of my teachers has ever mentioned his name. Thank God I educate myself, or i'd be like the mass majority of people who listen to the propoganda of the left!
If you have not done so, read the book "Race and Economics". This was a great book and the first i've read that shows how all the ideas forced on us to eliminate racism, i.e. gov't spending, gov't intervention, etc. have actually harmed blacks in moving out of the projects.
This man gets it. Why isn't this man in the white house instead of the socialist we've got. This is a brilliant man. I look forward to reading some of his books. The black community needs leaders like this instead of the Jessie Jacksons and Sharptons. Someone who puts the responsibility where it belongs instead of blaming everyone else.
Funny how the only thing anyone can argue about is a black white issue, instead of what this mans message is. That the govt. your govt. your rep. are sailing you down the river. Affirmative action helps no one. never has. it only creates more animosity. Just like sitting back and blaming one color or the other. There are more colors in this country than black and white.
@NewsPoliticsInfo Walter Williams has made a lot of tongue in cheek remarks about the late Mrs. Williams. I was just wondering if you could actually provide me with an example of him being "sexist". Not trying to start a disagreement but it would be nice to know what you're referencing.
When he talks about the white students at Temple "testing him" to see if he was an affirmative action hire, few Black people are aware of this phenomenon. They believe all whites assume they got their position based on merit. Most whites are all too aware of affirmative action and the assumption is, more often than not, that you were a charity/government mandated hire. Nobody says these things out loud however which makes me respect Dr Williams mind for having an understanding of it.
I would say the white statists have lured most blacks into a condition of dependency thereby making them mere children of the parent-state. It's actually a brilliant way to dis-empowered someone while simultaneously appearing as if you're helping them. Smart guys like Williams didn't take the bait but it's hard to resist that "candy" from the slick talking white guys when it's offered. You just can't see those invisible strings attached.
I Hate it when people say " I don't see colors" .. are you blind?..of course we see colors! .. however i don't judge people on color rather character!!!!!!!!!
I swear, the more intelligent and reasonable a man is today, the more he'll be hated and ignored by society. I WANT TO BE ABLE TO VOTE FOR SOMEONE LIKE THIS GODDAMN IT.

Williams is so right about college. Our excellent system is declining, partly because government has intervened too much w/ funding (and juiced up prices), but also partly because it's mandatory for a middle class life now. Kids are going, immature as hell, to major in topics they couldn't care less about. Of course, now 4 of 9 students don't finish in 6 years. What a joke.

I always learn something of importance from him. Towards the end of the interview he is open about some very scary aspects in terms of being ready to leave a failing country. This is a subject that has been on my mind for the last few years...
Thanks for the interview Mr Gillespie. I also appreciate that you asked a number of hard questions that honest libertarians must be able to confront...
@GreatJeca Oh .. i'm sorry. Does anyone who doesnt play ball with the stereotype of black people not being able to wipe floors or join gangs count as a HOUSE NEGRO? This guy has worked his way blood sweat and tears into a position of respect in not only his community but in the general public. I would have thought putting the statement HOUSE NEGRO on anyone .... would be considered offensive and ... um .. racist?
@Rensune I hate that expression. I liked his correction :'I mean I don't judge people by their color.' If you can see people then you'd better see their God given colors! Or you're color blind! But you shouldn't judge people's personalities by their colors. Albeit there are cultural trends and people of any one culture/subculture tend to be from the same areas and hence tend to share the same colors.
@Rensune Because there too busy listening to politicians who use race as a tool for votes and annoying house wives who blow there husbands hard earned savings. To liberate you Peralo
i wish i could give this more than one thumb up, i also wish i could find a way to use state power to make every statist view it. the irony would not be lost on me.
He's the man who cured me of being a "dittohead" and radicalized me. Ironically enough I first heard him as he subbed for Rush Limbaugh. He's quite an audacious fellow.
Geeze - He's been around for how long - since the 60's? And NOBODY has listened to him? Maybe they'll listen now? We need someone like him as President, but we'll probably continue to vote for idiots.
@meloveanna comment is not racist. It's your over sensitivity that perceives the comment as racist. Question: Is he an intelligent Black man, Answer: Yes. Most black speakers are great orators, but are not that intelligent.
Am I unconsciously racist for reading your comment, then reading meloveanna's comment and laughing?
meloveanna's comment reminded me of some of my grandparents soft racist comments—I don't think they meant harm or offense in their comments, but it's still a bit prejudice and makes me laugh. Silly stuff.
@VegasBilgeRat I know how i feel towards other races, who would understand that better than myself? You're too fixated on this R-WORD, ask yourself why i might feel this way?
@meloveanna on the contrary. I hate that R-word. Its far over used, its usually a tool used by lefty nutjobs poking ad hominem at conservatives.
I ask you again: Would you have made that statement to Walter's face? You and I both know the answer is no. And why is that? Because it was phrased poorly. WTF does his being black have to do with it?
Like I said to begin with, I don't think you meant anything, but take a second look at your statement instead of trying to discredit me.
@VegasBilgeRat No i wouldn't say it to his face, but that doesn't change how i feel. WTF does his being black have to do with it? I'm sorry but did we both watch the same video? The entire video was about being black in America! Race is real, and there are major differences, deal with it.
@meloveanna So in your mind, black people are stupid. Because apparently its "refreshing" for you to hear a intelligent black person.
You're a racist and you don't even know it. Thats the best part, you think you're open minded. I'm sorry, but there is simply no legitimate excuse for your statement. Its callous, its bigoted, and you're trying to pretend its not.
@VegasBilgeRat You must distinguish between the intellectual capability of "Blacks" & the ideas they adopt. Indeed, that failure is the greatest single problem for Blacks, period. Their typical leaders are an abomination —always pursuing their leadership position by insisting that the Black problem is one of systemic racism, of capitalism, of insufficient government aid etc. Those who believe those rationalizations see no value in pursuing the route *chosen* byWilliams, Sowell, Poitier etc
otherwise stated, black people are humans with "black/dark skin", on the other hand African America's largely adopted a self-defeating, ineffective, and BAD culture. Not all blacks adopt or agree with debilitating aspects/ideas prevalent in the modern de facto African America culture. This culture btw is a product of gov. and swindlers pushing racial division aeb past statistics of black wealth/growth, and other SES factors, which have seen declines w/ interventions.

@jetrpg22 Exactly. Those living on Indian Reservations, here in Canada & probably the US, have a similar culture of defeat and resentment. The only solution is to remove all government distinctions, favors, and barriers that keep them thinking they are somehow different and are owed something. The new Japanese, Koreans etc. have none of these problems, as Williams points out. Foolish people who advocate multiculture, equate culture with race, and fail to distinguish right and wrong!
@VegasBilgeRat Indeed, you are looking at other people's praise, for a Black man with right ideas, as an issue of race. Your political correctness is a part of the ghastly problem in which Blacks, generally, are mired.
Williams is not an "Oreo", he is a man.
Meloveanna sees him as a great example of a man who does not see himself as Black, despite his black(ish) skin, to those who DO see themselves as Black.
(Please observe my use of capitalization to distinguish proper from regular nouns).
@VegasBilgeRat By condemning someone for their honesty, you will simply get less honesty. You don't change anyones mind and more often than not, cement them in their opinions. If your intention was to change anyones mind - epic failure. If your intention was to sound superior by condemning those with politically incorrect opinions, once again, epic failure. If you just wanted to make yourself feel good by putting someone else down...well, I'll leave that one up to you.
@meloveanna yes i agree. This man is smarter than all the black "leaders" like sharpton, jackson....so it is nice to hear a man who believes in liberty and happens to be black. there aren't many like him. And youre comment is not racist either, in fact it is a praise.
@rXapt Didn't you get the memo? Coloured people aren't allowed their own political opinion.
It says a lot about what white liberals ACTUALLY think about blacks when they assert that any coloured person who is a non-liberal just has some sort of inferiority complex. The way they assert this is telling because they ARE holding white people, especially white liberals in their oh so generous way helping the poor Negroes, as being better - as being their stewards like blacks are animals.
I know a lot of people who aren't particularly skilled or smart, just kind of averageish. They have wealth beyond what many inner city blacks can ever imagine. The intellectual standard for a decent life is really not all that high.
But then liberals prevent real advancement by confining poor kids to gov't schools that underperform, and set a wage floor that keeps them out of the workforce (why work for $5/hr when you can not work? Wait that makes no sense).
Too many black kids believe that doing well in school means "acting white", and so they ridicule any of their peers who try to excel. (Kareem Abdul Jabbar was beaten up for doing well in school.) Until the idea that getting ahead in school is some kind of "racial betrayal" is stamped out, any average black kid that wants to get ahead will be fighting a difficult uphill battle. Charter schools never allow such attitudes to go unchallenged, and I think that explains a big part of their success.
Reason just keeps creating great videos. As a UK cousin from across the pond, I hope Walter is wrong about the future of the US. Perhaps the internet will be the catalyst for a nation to remain free.
If they would just legalize all drugs, then the gangs would have very little to fund their activity and loads of people living a street life would have no choice but to do something else. The war on drugs is one of the worst possible things for black people in America (well, it's bad anywhere).
@vince33x You didn't include yourself in that list of morons. So let me. vince33x is also one of the real idiots in America. He spreads the words of Dr. David Duke and other right-wing websites. He claims he reads books, but what he really reads is the propaganda versions on those websites. Allow me to introduce you to one of the great idiots in America: vince33x.

I would have thought putting the statement HOUSE NEGRO on anyone .... would be considered offensive and ... um .. racist?

@rgmztxy I like what Sowell had to say about the 2008 election.
"I'm not sure if I should vote for McCain or move to Australia."
At this point, Australia sounds pretty good.

"When I see people, I don't see colors." Why don't more people listen to this man?
Rensune 11 months ago 44
@Rensune I hate that expression. I liked his correction :'I mean I don't judge people by their color.' If you can see people then you'd better see their God given colors! Or you're color blind! But you shouldn't judge people's personalities by their colors. Albeit there are cultural trends and people of any one culture/subculture tend to be from the same areas and hence tend to share the same colors.

@meloveanna your comment is racist. whether you realize it or not.
Its soft racism, and you probably didn't mean it, but its there.
VegasBilgeRat 11 months ago
@VegasBilgeRat
Am I unconsciously racist for reading your comment, then reading meloveanna's comment and laughing?
meloveanna's comment reminded me of some of my grandparents soft racist comments—I don't think they meant harm or offense in their comments, but it's still a bit prejudice and makes me laugh. Silly stuff.
bttalbot 11 months ago
@VegasBilgeRat I'm very aware of what I said, and I'm sure most people here would agree.
meloveanna 11 months ago
@meloveanna would you say that to Walter's Face? "Hi Walter, it sure is nice to hear an intelligent black man!"
you're racist and you don't even know it.
VegasBilgeRat 11 months ago
@VegasBilgeRat I know how i feel towards other races, who would understand that better than myself? You're too fixated on this R-WORD, ask yourself why i might feel this way?
meloveanna 11 months ago
@meloveanna on the contrary. I hate that R-word. Its far over used, its usually a tool used by lefty nutjobs poking ad hominem at conservatives.
I ask you again: Would you have made that statement to Walter's face? You and I both know the answer is no. And why is that? Because it was phrased poorly. WTF does his being black have to do with it?
Like I said to begin with, I don't think you meant anything, but take a second look at your statement instead of trying to discredit me.
VegasBilgeRat 11 months ago
@VegasBilgeRat No i wouldn't say it to his face, but that doesn't change how i feel. WTF does his being black have to do with it? I'm sorry but did we both watch the same video? The entire video was about being black in America! Race is real, and there are major differences, deal with it.
meloveanna 11 months ago
@meloveanna So in your mind, black people are stupid. Because apparently its "refreshing" for you to hear a intelligent black person.
You're a racist and you don't even know it. Thats the best part, you think you're open minded. I'm sorry, but there is simply no legitimate excuse for your statement. Its callous, its bigoted, and you're trying to pretend its not.
Feel free to respond, I won't be reading it.
VegasBilgeRat 11 months ago
@VegasBilgeRat You must distinguish between the intellectual capability of "Blacks" & the ideas they adopt. Indeed, that failure is the greatest single problem for Blacks, period. Their typical leaders are an abomination —always pursuing their leadership position by insisting that the Black problem is one of systemic racism, of capitalism, of insufficient government aid etc. Those who believe those rationalizations see no value in pursuing the route *chosen* byWilliams, Sowell, Poitier etc

jetrpg22 11 months ago
@jetrpg22 Exactly. Those living on Indian Reservations, here in Canada & probably the US, have a similar culture of defeat and resentment. The only solution is to remove all government distinctions, favors, and barriers that keep them thinking they are somehow different and are owed something. The new Japanese, Koreans etc. have none of these problems, as Williams points out. Foolish people who advocate multiculture, equate culture with race, and fail to distinguish right and wrong!
RnBramwell 11 months ago 5
@VegasBilgeRat Indeed, you are looking at other people's praise, for a Black man with right ideas, as an issue of race. Your political correctness is a part of the ghastly problem in which Blacks, generally, are mired.
Williams is not an "Oreo", he is a man.
Meloveanna sees him as a great example of a man who does not see himself as Black, despite his black(ish) skin, to those who DO see themselves as Black.
(Please observe my use of capitalization to distinguish proper from regular nouns).
RnBramwell 11 months ago
@VegasBilgeRat By condemning someone for their honesty, you will simply get less honesty. You don't change anyones mind and more often than not, cement them in their opinions. If your intention was to change anyones mind - epic failure. If your intention was to sound superior by condemning those with politically incorrect opinions, once again, epic failure. If you just wanted to make yourself feel good by putting someone else down...well, I'll leave that one up to you.
jamo387 9 months ago
@meloveanna yes i agree. This man is smarter than all the black "leaders" like sharpton, jackson....so it is nice to hear a man who believes in liberty and happens to be black. there aren't many like him. And youre comment is not racist either, in fact it is a praise.

rXapt 11 months ago 2
@rXapt Didn't you get the memo? Coloured people aren't allowed their own political opinion.
It says a lot about what white liberals ACTUALLY think about blacks when they assert that any coloured person who is a non-liberal just has some sort of inferiority complex. The way they assert this is telling because they ARE holding white people, especially white liberals in their oh so generous way helping the poor Negroes, as being better - as being their stewards like blacks are animals.
AshillaBeige 11 months ago 4
@AshillaBeige truly is sickening.

If they would just legalize all drugs, then the gangs would have very little to fund their activity and loads of people living a street life would have no choice but to do something else. The war on drugs is one of the worst possible things for black people in America (well, it's bad anywhere).
