I love the "scones.. sc-oh-nes" line at the beginning! :D
...Just so you know it's said scones without the "oh" sound in the middle- as if you were saying "scon". People think the other way sounds posher so it must be right but it's a weird quirk of received pronunciation that actually it's the other way around. Have I confused anyone yet?!
I remember I was about 4yo and I grabbed all our tomatoes and tried to make them squirt like this.. boy did I get a belting.. Not because I ruined all the tomatoes in the kitchen.. but because it actually works!
Remember seeing this in the late 1970's when the show was syndicated in the U. S. Loved it then, still do. Which means this is either timelessly brilliant or I never grew up . . .
@KetchupSplodge That's just a matter of opinion. There was also a lot of dross around in the seventies that never gets shown nowadays. We tend mainly to see the good stuff nowadays which deservedly gets re-shown.
well people comedy has changed for better or for worse the best you can do is find or wait for one good old comedy to pop up again such as the nanny,green-acers but to take in prospect take a look at hey hey its saturday well from then to know you can instantly see the changes and in truth the reaseon why they changed is because of times now they target youths and really they only look for the fart jokes,old ladys falling,jrunks and more but thing is the real change was when we were kids to now.
This has to be one of the most good-natured comedy I've seen in a while. There's something about a seemingly-innocent setting that's really so serious (as per Pushing Daisies)...I mean, it's so...just. I love the huge audience laugh at the line "His chum...lay in the ketchup..." -- it just punctuates how absurd it really is, just when you start to feel a bit teary at the death of Wild Bill Oddie. Well, squirting, maybe...
I haven't ever really seen this episode. Wish I could.
All these years on & The Goodies still make me laugh! Cannot imagine Little Britain ( as a recent example) will still be doing so 30 plus years from now!
@lol732 LB is trying to hard to be "relevant" to ever capture that level of creativity that we saw with the Goons, Goodies and Python. The closest thing to a recent form of comedy that comes close (IMO) to this is "Robot Chicken".
With upmost respect to chefjsmith - who's got it so right - first it was good, second it was gooder (sorry, but better doesn't work) and then it was GOODIES! (Goody goody yum yum).
Just re-watching this, I am surprised at the poor quality of the film transfer. The colour is washed out and the definition is low. I would guess this was shot on 16mm film and hope that the film inserts are around there somewhere so a restoration can be done.
It sure is washed out, at least in some parts, but the DVD copy is a lot better. BTW, the DVDs can be bought off eBay if you, like me, are in a country where they don't have them in the stores. But you only get 23 episodes that way.
The scene before this clip is IMHO even funnier, the OK Tea Room, just as much a western spoof as this.
Hello from Houston, Texas. Can anybody tell me how I can get my hands on "Goodies" DVD's. I remember watching this as a kid on public TV. Don't see them in stores round these parts.
I loved the Goodies when I was a kid & it hasn't changed! I have bought all of the episodes on DVD & I now my kids love it!! They are absolute ratbags!
can u really get every episode on dvd? i only have 3 and one of them's pretty crap didnt really know the episodes mustve been very old ones i think but the others were great
lol, it's true. The others were always calling him captain safety because he'd pad up before doing anything stunt like. In this case, he padded his back but threw himself onto his front. Oops.
These old episodes are the best. Has anyone seen one of the episode where there were a bunch of rabbits at the north pole, they left a heat lamp on and melted the polar ice cap? I know the details are fuzzy but that was the jest of it....
I seem to remember this from the early seventies. I must have been about 7 or something. I remember Oddie's furry hat!! I womder where this wes filmed?
Classic stuff, in general I feel that the goodies show has dated a bit over time, however there is still a class about them that you just don't get anymore in comedy shows nowadays.

What a blast from the past! I saw this 1st time round, when I was about 6, we re-enacted it many times in the school playground. I remember Graeme Garden being interviewed about it, he said he had padding all over his body for the final scene but when he fell he landed flat on his face and it hurt loads. Watching the Goodies there are indications Bill Oddie was an ornitholigist. There are also indications Graeme Garden was an afficianado of westerns.

dvdsmlprstylr 2 years ago 36
@dvdsmlprstylr It was comedy for the 1970s much as Little Britain is comedy for the early 21st Century.
Cool2BCeltic 1 year ago
@Cool2BCeltic thats wot im saying - 1970's was waaaay better than now.

@dvdsmlprstylr Well I don't think so but that's just my opinion.
Cool2BCeltic 1 year ago
@dvdsmlprstylr I agree with you. The Goodies are very creative, just one of the many reasons I love em. X3
I'd like to see more things like this too..Or at least some repeats on TV at the very least D:
stop23456 1 year ago
@dvdsmlprstylr
WHY?
You have comedy like this, had it for decades. What's wrong with having little brittain on the side to enjoy aswell?
fritspas 8 months ago
@fritspas no, i personally haven't had it for decades...im only 17. mind u, i was brought up with videos of marx brothers and norman wisdom.
little britain is an example of how modern comedy is rubbish compared to this gold.
dvdsmlprstylr 8 months ago
@dvdsmlprstylr ur so right. i'm 15 and have been watching this stuff for years but i've never really been into stuff like little britain

Little Britain is shit, The Goodies is awesome. Why have a shit comedy on the side instead of more genius stuff like this?
StigGT2 7 months ago
@StigGT2
Because the Goodies Fulltime is lethal

@fritspas
But of course.
Deserves far more repeats though.
