@ducksrevil i was literally just thinking that. she has that unique, powerful, soulful, raspy voice and she has the same sort of personality and style as janis
lmao me and dad we're totally picking who the represent. sadie is obv. janis. Jojo is Definately Jimi Hendrix. Max and Jude are lmao i cant remember. if im right they represent two of the beatles but jude is also representing hey jude the song! anyways love the movie
i get the whole thing how sadie is like janis but it could just be a reference to the song "sexy sadie". i know that's probably not looking too deeply into it but whatever.
ok so i picked up on the other characters and who they were supposed to "represent", but i totally missed Max being the John!
i love watching this movie and picking out all the Beatles song references..like when we meet Prudence and Sadie asks where she came from and Jude says "she came in through the bathroom window!"
hahahaha yeah and how when jude picks up his paycheck at the beginning and the guys like i told myself "when im 64" something something something lol i forget but yeah :]
no matter how many times i see this movie, it never fails..at the end of the movie when Jude's up there singing "All you Need is Love" and Lucy's trying to get to him, i'm always like "Lucy, you BETTER turn around and find Jude!!"
we have two copies of this movie now...because my dad lent our FIRST copy to a friend of his at work so they could see it, and one night my mom pulled me aside and was like "we gotta get another copy so we can watch it until ours comes back!!"
While JoJo's character is a reference to Jimi Hendrix, it is also a reference to The Beatles's song "Get Back", particularly the first line "JoJo was a man who thought he was a loner/But he knew it wouldn't last."
Sadie, with her fiery red hair and passionate temper, is a reference to Janis Joplin. Sadie is even seen drinking directly from a Jack Daniels bottle during her downward spiral, an action that Janis did regularly with Southern Comfort. Even Janis' throaty singing voice is used by Sadie in the movie.

ok nobody would think jojo was jimi hendrix if he wasnt black. seriously. but jojo is from the paul song get back. all they are doing is showing their interpretations of the characters the beatles make for their songs. they arent jimi or janis.
actually i'm a big fan of jimi hendrix and its so obvious they were tryin to make it look him. It has nothing to do with colour. If you know anything about the 60's psychadelic era you will know there are more than enough similarities. and yes sadie's character was modeled after janis joplin. ur are stupid if u don't know that.
haha I thought that the janis joplin jimi hendrix thing was funny. but I also think sadie was supposed to be kind of a paul allusion, considering she only sings paul songs (except helter skelter.) But that's just the way I thought of it.
this movie wasent that great i thought that all the songs were realy good special happines is a warm gun but like i thought as a movie it was slopily poot together and there wasent much of a story like i think they took the most ovious ways of using the songs like dear pruidence the only reason that girl was in the movie was to sing that song!
at first i was thinking she was pretty joplin-esque, but when she was backstage and was like "fuck man, i need someone who can play the guitar!" i jumped a little because her voice mirrored joplins almost exactly.
jojo was a great hendrix allusion. they both did a great job mimicking.
thats not her character but yes its kinda who they were suppose to be like same with jojo was kinda like jimmy Hendrix and in one scene Sadie dresses jojo up in the purple shirt and head band one of hendrix's fav stage outfits
I just saw the film at a press screening and it's easily, no contest, hands down, the best film of the year... in YEARS I'm tempted to say... pure emotion

Dana Fuchs should be in consideration for the Janis Joplin biopic. She could totally pull it off.

Ok, "Jojo" is OBVIOUSLY Jimi Hendrix. and his name is also a reference to "Hey Joe."
Everyone Sees Dr.Roberts is Bono, but he is ALSO Ken Kesey.
if you people knew what you were talking about at all, you would see that.
and yes, "Jude" is attractive, but if thats all you got out of the movie, im sorry, so please stop leaving comments purely about that.

I have yet to see the movie (due to it not being in my town), but is Sadie supposed to be like Janis Joplin?
voodooBriBri 4 years ago
Her name is Sadie in the film.
She's only 'Joplin-esque.'
I don't know if it was done intentionally (although the Jojo character was rather 'Hendrixian')
Maybe it was a way for the director to put 2 very influential artists in a movie that's bound to go down in history!
