  • NICE TUNE

  • people make me laugh they make comments on all kinds of music claiming various statements are behind the lyrics but not one mentions the real reason. that being, a group making a song to make MONEY for themselves nothing more nothing less while the rest of the world tries to attach a meaning

  • be honest with yourself for once in your life ,do you think if the 80's were run under michael foot and Neil Kinnock the country would have been better off ? No is the obvious answer but nice download, song brings back memories.

  • me 2

  • 80's missed FOREVER........2012 UK FUCKED FOREVER

  • I don't know this track talking about politic in Britain but it's a remarkable melody and percussion. So relaxing for me everytime I hear it.

  • Walking home from Middle School 1980 - New Musik's bright, optimistic synthpop reverberating in my head. And then 4 years later Tony Mansfield creates his biggest song thru' the vocals of The Damned. Tony Mansfield, New Musik - massive fan, even now at 44!! Utterly brilliant.

  • 1983...Most liking it was an alternative to *Mama* from Genesis

  • I don't believe that man has even been to Sandhurst.

  • Creeping the female singing, back in 1983 The Captain was obtaining his Gold...But uptaining his LP...Great forward for the Lady's....Great Captai^n's Say WhOT 1981?

  • What a great video 1983...Endlesly

  • It's strange that in a decade of far reaching social change, recession, inflation rates hiiting the roof and catastrophic unemployent, musical creativity and fashion hit new heights of quality and innovation. I was told that the central theme of this song was a russian nuke sub was caught by the Swedes in the Baltic Sea near their coast - and theresultant international repercussions. Wow!

  • Tony Mansfield is a genius :)

  • Not half as depressing as the Tony Blair/Gordon Brown shambolic era!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @anthonyroberthill I couldn't disagree more. I'm guessing your community wasn't torn apart by Thatcherite policy?

  • The Captain has loved this nuttiness for many's a long year.....brillarooni and fly the spinnaker

  • @Bruchag oh .. the squirrel is happy to harvest nuts on the way ...

despite his old teeth and his old stomach .... Thanks so much for kindness ...Captain happy...

  • Love this song

  • LOVE THIS BIGTIME - conciousness raising at its best

  • Dear Captain, do you think in view of Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and the rest of the Middle East, not forgetting Somalia etc, could you make a new song? I would suggest "Wish it were over".

  • @robharvey2 Dear mr robharvey2 i take it you're too young to remember this song 1st time round or simply don't get the lyrics, this has nothing to do with the countries what you mentioned so stop trying to play the peacemaker especially over captain sensible.

  • @robharvey2 wipe them all off the planet then it will be over

  • One of the good guys, the Captain.

  • @whengoodtimesgobadd Ambition and creativity??? For some people maybe. Try telling that to the industrial areas of England, Scotland and Wales, where life changed forever!!! Early 80's were great!!! I wouldn't have lived in a nicer and idyllic place.....Then she really stuck her claws in. Cow!!

  • In 1984 we all thought that Thatcher was bad, but then we got to 1997 and by 2003 we realised that Thatcher wasn't all that bad! Anyway I don't know what the hell this has got to do with this great song!

  • @themanmaschine Thatcher is a fuckin cunt, end of story.

  • looks like timbearcub has been in Norway,,,, Nob.

  • was this song played when the berlin wall came down? now how do we stop ALL FIGHTING

  • Reading the comments here is rather sad. I came here to listen to a nice song. Someone has one point of view & someone has the other & no matter if there is one comment or a million you're not going to change one another's minds so leave the rest of us alone & away & play tig with the buses..x

  • @escociagirl so it's 'just a nice song'...a song that happens to be about the Falklands War. It's not radio fluff, it has a message. And is political. So it will get comments such as these, especially on YouTube.

  • @whengoodtimesgobadd my mates? I'm a socialist, Labour Party is nothing to do with me. Sadly though Blair, Brown and Cameron have had to deal with the mess Thatcher and Major made...not to say they didn't make their own, but notice Cameron and co. can't fix it even using Thatcherite principles. Thatcher broke 'Broken Britain' for a generation, closing industry & changing society. She fucked it up.

  • played this in club havana, boro ,1990,last song of the night,ah the memories

  • Capatin was simply great...very nice songs. I played this many times on the radio in those years....I tell ya, times have changed

    peace

  • i luv this song

  • fuckin sad wat a tune a great tune can lead too!!! some of these comments here about this song are way way off the mark!! its a fuckin song a classic song at that!! wats wrong with people?? any excuse to spurt boil.. this is a great song.. end of....

  • I love this song, but yes the 1980s were far from sunshine dayglo bounce-a-thons that people who didn't live through them think. That was to escape the utter horror of war, joblessness, nuclear threat and government corruption/ignorance. The other side was protest, which glad to say Captain Sensible was one of the ones who dared stand up and write about Falklands war and strangeness of those times.

  • nice song

  • Its just a fantastic song from a great artist!!

  • class tune... sad comments!!

  • Love the Captain!!

  • Let's push this towards the 100,000 mark!

  • best anti war song EVER X

  • englands fucked!! end of...

  • When London and the Uk were still British and English...old sad happy days...

  • i bet skianbeerfist lives here now in a 6 bedroom house and gets up at 6pm everyday!!! and signs on!!

  • psychedelique, man.

  • war

  • This oozes real London back in the day

  • My God I am so glad you posted this song..Great guy the Captain..Hes a good mate of my brother...Many thanks for the post...

  • I remember buying this and playing it over and over ..then wondering why I couldn't get laid..nostalgia's not what it used to be eh? :)

  • @jaytv777 It's alright. I DON'T plays songs over and over, yet I still can't get laid.

  • This should have been the song which marked the Berlin wall falling and the end of the cold war

  • Captain Sensible reminds me of a English Dead Milkman.

    Sincerely,

    Skianbeerfist

  • Recorded after the Falkland war ended. I hope people in Egypt may say very soon the same: glad it's all over (the Mubarak dictatorship)

  • Co-alition anyone, seat belts to fasten here we go again.

  • I love this song.

  • are people mad saying it was a great decade? i left school in 82 to join a 3 million long line of jobless with a government who did'nt care and a society that was only hungry for money (hence the yuppies) who grew up to spawn the bankers of today (hence the crisis in the world we will now spend the next 20 years paying for) whilst i think it's a nice song it was'nt great then and it aint much better now thanks to assholes voting in successive government fraudsters as that is all they are villans

  • @scits1 couldn't agree with you more, thank you for the comment

  • Lovely song and video as it is certainly a classic to me. This single for me was better in my ears in 1983 than the disco smash *Wot* the year before. CS made some great songs also in his after-punk period. Happy Xmas, and hopefully we will (not) say... Glad that 2010 is all over ;-)

  • Someone should re-edit and extend this by about 3 more minutes.

  • Man, this is basically a New Musik track with another voice.

  • ye giecco2634 seen that its brill. wat a great song..

  • Comming from n ireland we are glad its all over

  • dom jolly uses a brilliant live version of this at the end of one of his episodes of trigger happy, is it from live at the milkyway? i want to buy it!!

  • @giecco2634 It was the last ever Trigger Happy TV that's why ;D He does the odd christmas special. Dom to win I'm a celeb!

  • when the people win against the evil nob'eads in politics we'll sing this this everywhere!!!

  • @roachie31 Can't wait!

  • rofl, see the black woman lookin at capt' like he was ridiculous lol that was hilarious lol

  • An 80's synth pop classic!

Un clásico del synth pop 80'ntero!

  • top top tune good times wish it was the 80s again

  • as long as theres religion there will always be war! religion biggest problem on the face of this earth!!

  • @Paulmodelcollector, the Captain left London for the more relaxing lifestyle of Brighton. That was many years ago. He may be back in London now, depending on his commitments with The Damned after re-joining them a couple of years back.

  • Underground classic, gives me goose bumps. Quirky and brilliant.

  • love this song, flash back to my youth :-)

  • it just goes to show how fucking stupid people on this planet really are if they think the threat of war really is over, there will be a war but not decisive as this would end the money made from it, the superpowers make more from the fear of a threat than from an actual engagement and it is that the the world needs to wake up about

  • @scits1 Excellent comment !

  • wat a tune! absolute classic

  • I love this soooooooooo much!

  • Weak

  • This song is never played enough anymore. Unfortunately.

  • At this time it is still a great song and message

  • we sang this song when are tour of duty was over in germany 1984 still remembers me at that time great song

  • iGlove

  • he capture in himself; he is by himself, people`s conscience; people are not naturally for no war or they are brainwashed; this here man is glorious!

  • I dunno if this happens for anyone else, but i often go on YouTube to look for a video for a favourite song, that i've never seen before, and end up a bit disappointed when i find it! Awesome tune, video not so!. But its nice to see.

  • @TheUTubeTeamSucks I like the video. It gives you a light show, there's some fun and variety in it. It all adds to the celebratory feeling of the song.

  • Glad it's all over

I am always looking for hard to find new wave tracks from 1982, 83, 84, 85.

This was one...thank you so much

  • Great song, even if the chorus is a note-for-note copy of "Living By Numbers" by New Muzik. I like the clanky percussion on this tune.

  • top tune!!

  • Great track, fantastic lyrics, melody, production.

  • I've just found out that I'm going to keep my job - so glad its all over!

  • Superb!!! A great 80s song brings back memories this.

  • directed by Robin Bextor

  • Beautiful.

  • i wana say crap but it's not!!..

  • the labour lot, from the tinpot councillors all the way to the top...in it for themselves, not for the working man...more for the man on the street who cant be arsed to work and just sponges off us that know a days work. when they got in it was as we knew it would be ,tax, tax, tax...again to look after lazy people and anyone from over seas who wants a freeby. hand outs and not knowing when to stop handing out got this counrty in the mess it is in today

  • The kid that never grew up, fantasic multi talented british original........

  • Debsey, I love you!, Cheers people...

  • the cpt , hes the one of the most underated musicians , brilliant guitarists and composers we have had here in th uk , long live the cpt , also revolution now is an excellent album................................

  • do you think the good captain showed his backing singers the golden Rivet ? Great tune!!

  • i hated dis. at d time. being a die hard damned fan.a few years on its one of d best our captian did think back to the time he wrote dis. its spot on ??

  • so glad i was no where near camden in the 80s ; )

  • Capt'n Sensible must have been a fun guy to hang out with. I'm actually listening to his tape cassette right now and I thought I'd look up his old videos here on You-Tube for the nostalgia of it all.

  • Its different but i like it, one of my old time faves.

  • Believe me: the eighties sucked. The nineties were ok, though. Grunge as a response.

  • C'est vraiment trop beau !

a écouter aussi du Capitain sensible '' Stop the World ''

  • Unemployed non car owning Jocks beware, the Volcanic dust will be puffed back up there. We've bought the party straws...................

  • Appreciate the commentary Livewire

  • Every time labour gets elected, depravity, poverty and unemployment rises!

Happy with your electricity & gas bills?

Happy paying more at the pump when filling the car? I'm not & I only drive a 1.2 yaris because my vectra got beyond a joke to run thanks to your precious Gordoon Brown & Alistair Darling! you from glasgow or dundee?

If so you'd be better voting SNP!

  • Glad it's all over was actually meaning "glad the war is over"...

And what was wrong with Thatcher? she was the best PM this country ever had!

Look up jilted john when you got 5 minutes free, the line "Gordon is a moron" describes Brown to a tee! also the same applies to Darling & Blair!

Labour? they couldn't organize a piss up in a brewery! facism & terrorism is all they specialize in & another 5 years of labour & britain is finished!

  • @Livewire365 Correct..Thatcher was the greatest PM we ever had. The only one that stood up to Europe, the IRA; the Argentines and the Japanese

  • @Enferushostis Thatcher was always praised for how she dealt with the Argies but when they first went into the Falklands she dithered until embarrassed in parliament by Michael Foot.

  • @fsr5046 embarrassed by Michael Foot , was that posible?

  • @1middlesbrough hard to believe now but the Tories were dithering and didn't know how to deal with the Argies on the Falklands and I think it was during PM's questions when Foot got tore into her about not protecting British subjects and lands and they finally started to get troops moving, the Labour party at the time I don't think wanted to back the government but Foot told them he had seen fascists during the war and recognised another in the Argy leader (Galtieri ?)

    The "Iron Lady" my arse

  • @Livewire365 those who think Thatcher was brilliant are either right wing or didn't live through her. I'm guessing you're about 20-25 - or a Torygraph reader. She was terrible, and the real 80's were far from wonderful, despite what the I LOVE THE 80's dayglo wearing 20 year old say.

  • @timbearcub so the sun in newcastle or birmingham shone out Tony's backside?

I'm a realist, not a hardened extreme left wing facist, maybe because I'm not a geordie... though I've heard geordie's vote labour because they enjoy the pain, suffering and deprivation the left parties bring!

  • @Livewire365 you lost me at extreme left wing fascist...I would say 'learn something about politics before commenting' or 'you are 12 and what is this' but you're just a dumb fuck YouTube troll so whatever, sunshine.

  • So now is anyone under the illusion that "new labour" can and will destroy the U.K. just to leave a mess for any new government to clean up? This is "burning crops" policy used by the russians in the early stages of the German invasion. If we can't win no one will, and fuck the population! They mean nothing if you want to maintain power!

  • CAMDEN IN THE 80'S!!!...WOOW... You see those cars going by? lol... Anyway, it's still a s***hole! lol

  • Yeah... I feel old now!... Thanks! lol

Wicked track, I haven't heard this for years! I forgot about this one, shame on me...

Still love that drum beat n bassline... Class!

  • グダグダ感素晴らしい

  • God bless The Captain

  • Had this on the b side 2 happy talkie.

  • One of those "up" songs you turn to when you're feeling down...

    Thanks, Captain.

  • Still touring with the Damned so give em your support and they are just as good as they always was dude.

  • I wish it was still the 80s, when music was music!!

  • I think lots of us wish we were back in the eighties as it was fun being in that music age.The world was happier i think

  • @rippleway123 your joking- the worst decade in music hands down next to the late 90s- thgough i love the jam the damned early u2 clash etc this was the decade of terrible production and bad songs!

  • @salvadory It was a very good decade for melodic danceable music, overall it may have been the best dance decade. If you don't like that kind of music that is your choice, but it was good at that type of music and quite a lot of people like that.music too.

  • @starry2006 dont get me wrong i loved the capt and the damned and some 80s stuff - but in general it cant touch the 60s stuff- the 70s punk and "new wave" stuff- mostly it was the crappy digital sequencing- sorry but analog is the key- my ears cant take digital synths and bad 80s production- but youre right there was some good stuff- i happen to love "wot" i said captain i said wot"

  • @rippleway123

18 thumbs up to you matey and rightly so! I still love 80's music soooo much, The captains on facebook ya know....

  • @rippleway123 Captain Sensible "Glad It's All Over" (1984) A Free Advice Man Favourite. Greetings to rippleway123 from The Original New York City Free Advice Man, JP Fenyo! I used to play this song on the Radio and at an 80s New Wave Dance Club called Club Area. LOVE IT!

  • @rippleway123 do you wish to be in a pre internet era and you say this here? hahaha

  • @rippleway123 things people never say ;)

  • glad it's all over

  • Legendary!

  • i agree with apa37, "new"labour have shafted the british people and thoroughly deserve the hiding their going to get.

  • Any song in the eighties that had nuclear war, atomic war, bombs or whatever in its lyrics was always going to be a hit.

  • So true! Think Sigue Sigue Sputnik.

  • You know this will always regard this in childhood innocence.

I heard a live version on the end of Dom Joly's Trigger Happy TV that I've never tracked down.

As anti war songs go...... its up there with Daisy CHain no time to top

  • Hey, You're pretty much spot on with what you said. I heard the version on trigger happy all them years ago.

But i have the version you're on about. It's a "Live at the milky Way". so should be easy to find mate.

  • So Liffeyside, the thatcher era was depressing was it? Well i'm afraid "new" labour are gonna make it a living hell by spitefully destroying everything and landing us in massive debt for decades to come! When we earning in the private sector have lost our jobs(i'm just a humble welder) you are all screwed!

  • i agree with apa37. i lost my job as a machinist in the labour "stronghold" of the north east of england. these tossers dont give a toss about the average person in the street & anyone who thinks they do is sadly mistaken

  • @twistedsistaqteu ya spot on mate i live in newcastle and its gona get worse hope things are good for yi

  • @twistedsistaqteu so true !!

  • Apa37 has said what i think the whole nation know and think.Vat cut.Who the hell did that help.Alright if your spending thousands but the normal people like us that make England tick are badly ladened with debt.Thankyou Mr brown. You dont have to live like us mortals

  • Think you mash a point, you and Apa 37. The world isn't confined or defined by Engerlandshire. The Cptn was making a very ironic point all those 26 years ago.

Wee hint for you, search Fat Larrys Band, they did a good impersonation of ...........

fill in the blanks for yourself.

  • u can see the cameraman's shadow at 2:04

  • like this song!

  • Just remebered this song, haven't heard it since about 1984!

  • The genius of Tony Mansfield (New Musik singer/songwriter/arranger)

  • great great song! I love it!

  • i think the old cap might make a comeback with these old tunes.

  • One of Croydon's finest!

  • Captain is a hippy punk! Sensible Peace!

  • Great song this and I agree he was very under-rated.

  • To settle the debate. This song is not about the Falklands. It was about the Russian Sub - The red star (The USSR was called the red, red sky in the song) - that "mysteriously" appeared in a Swedish harbour - The people who never go to war. There is a reference to the Conservative Government (Thatcher) who nearly took us to a war - The blue moon . Sorry VOCHIC - Just seen your post as well but hay ho. We still ended up in a war

  • the captain rules ...totaly underated hero of our times ,keep on making tunes captain .

  • Always go to see him and The Damned whenever they are with a couple hundred miles of me. 2 months to go - November 17th at Glasgow. GREAT!!!! Top vid and song thx for posting

  • great tune love it.

  • I met captain sensible about 20 years ago in Hunstanton or near the coast somewhere doing some thing for tv,

  • Its still a great song today, i can see LILY ALLEN doing a version of this, from Julia.

  • WHy not, she covered Electric Light Orchestra's Mr Blue Sky!

  • I sang this on an X Factor audition & got through to the next round but unfortunatley i didn't win the actual show.

  • You should have done cos the crap that got through have no feeling

  • This isn't about the Falklands, it's about a Russian (the red, red star) sub being found in a Swedish harbour (the people who never ever go to war). He's glad it's all over because there wasn't a war. The blue blue moon reference is to Margaret Thatcher who also got involved.
