Well, I wouldn't quite call myself an otaku, but yeah they're worth watching. Appleseed is the first one, Ex Machina is the sequel. It's not quite as good though, kinda turns into a Japanese drama.

Appleseed also does address the problem of an android-like species being able to think and reproduce.
