dude how are you gonna deal with the impending fire imps that spawn from magma? I usually make steel wall grates in front of the entry point and exit point so they cant enter. cuz just one idiot dwarf on fire can seriously ruin your day bro. (like burn all the vegetation outside while searching for a river to throw himself into.)

Pressure doesn't apply to magma (unless by a pump), only water.

One more question - how do you go about finding magma?

Dig down deeper and deeper until you hit the magma sea located on every map, start an embark on a biome that contains a volcano. There ya go.

so, building a channel carves out the space under the layer you're on? I was confused about what I saw there.
