@Gleek1able yes, Mariah was on a slingshot ride when she recorded the high notes and notes specially in Emotions. She hits full chest voice as she experiences 4G and as the slingshot winds down, she would hit the low notes as a sign of relief. Check out the slingshot videos in youtube.
Also, out or respect for MJ, she cannot lipsynch so she has to use her real unadulterated voice.
