A little surprised this songs got so few views. Its my favorite on the album.
I don't care if tfot ever reunites but I do hope that someone makes another awesome ballad like Phantom on the Horizon. That has to be the best full album of the last decade. If anyone can think of a better one please reply so I can look it up.
I like just like vinyl, thomas has matured and his new sound is really good in my opinion equal or better then the tfot , i glad he toned down the amount of screaming he did anyways just like vinyl kicks ass
Gah... I wish my brother had shown me some of these guy's music before I saw them in concert. Hell, it still didn't matter. I just imagined the Fall of Troy and it was virtually the same, just an extra guitarist.
@illswingmyfists Because they aren't shitty. Its just an experimental sound, if your not used to it it can sound weird. A better question is how did Dance Gavin Dance headline that tour. They are really bad.
@illswingmyfists the frontman used to be a post-hardcore pesudo-legend, he had a prog and random sound to his guitar/vocal work and his old bands would do unpredictable shift in tempo and rythme, in his the past that people like chris lent of ismfof [when I talked to him] compared his sound to "..an ever changing ocean. He used to play stadiums and now he's back to to basement shows again."
I hope his next album is more the TFOT-like... I miss thomas's weird riffs and random high screams :'(
a reunion will happen. thomas is a glory hog and a real musician. eventually he'll know the fall of troy will not only bring him more glory because they're more famous together, but the musicians that played with him are better. and the other members wlil agree for the same reasons. and over and above all that, they would make more money as the fall of troy.
a reunion will definitely occur in a few years. mark my words.
@FakeFlourescentSkies No offense, but have you ever talked to Erak? Or have you seen JLV live? JLV is a DIY band, Erak chose that path for a reason. They played first at every show for the Dance Gavin Dance tour, yet Erak seemed happy as can be and he played far better and sang/screamed far better than he did when I saw him with TFOT. Not only that, but all of the members were very nice guys, and Jake is definitely a pretty sick guitarist.
Because Thomas Erak wants to play music to make money. There is no need for a reunion, they've moved on as musicians. Personally, the path Erak is taking looks very promising. How many guitarist do you know get Guitarist Of The Year after playing for 7 years? Just Like Vinyl will be right up there soon enough, don't you worry. Erak alone from TFOT has a huge fan base.
So Thomas is saying he's schizo, what a surpise....
I knew he was ever since the ghostship demos. His lyrics pointed straight towards that. Plus schizo people tend to have extremely bad anxiety and Thomas has been prone towards anxiety attacks in the past.
yeah, even though tim wasnt really featured prominently in the final tracks, TFOT was truly a jam band, and all of the members were crucial. ITUE was really not that great of an album because I think they started relying too much on Thomas when Tim left the band. This is amazing though, and more towards the roots of TFOT.
@1awesomebassplayer THANK YOU GOOD SIR. Someone fucking agrees with me. ITUE was fucking TERRIBLE. With exception of a few "neat" songs, it was a nose dive, and the criticism it generated was well needed.
"Ive been staying up all night to ease the pain,// and your the one to blame, // it drives me insane"
Are you FUCKING KIDDING ME THOMAS ERAK????What happened?? You were great. Insanely. And then you shit out the worst lyrics and riffs you ever played, recorded it, and called it a day. gay
@DcDoMiNaTor and whats wrong for a dude to want to change his sound. The music is about him and I'm pretty sure Thomas doesnt give a fuck what you think about his music.
The difference in 3 short years.. imo was ever apparent at their show, not just their music.. It went from an almost.. feel good, grooving feel.. To "if you haven't heard Minipulator.. your a fag bag" type crowd.. It ruined them for me.. And I can't help but hear the same minipulator shit in this music.. 5 steps backwards imo... sadly.
i don't think Thomas will ever be able to do anything that doesn't sound like completely original compared side by side with TFOT. It seems like that "wankery" guitar style will define Thomas's writing style forever. Not that it's bad, it would just be cool to hear him do something NEW.
I personally love the way they are going, it's a great new groove. And who ever says it doesn't sound like tfot I think there is a hint of it but there's not supposed to be... It's a different band dudes! Keep it up I love it!!!
I think that Most people are facing is the fact that they have listened to The Fall of Troy for a certain amount of years and then they listen to Just Like Vinyl and can't take it, it's just the concept that Thomas Erak is Varying his style as any good guitarist would, People are expecting "The Fall of Troy sound" from a band with completely different members with the Exception of Obviously Erak. :S
I'm so glad this has some of The Red Museum's members. I remember talking to those guys on myspace a couple years ago about how some of them went to school with the guys in The Fall of Troy. This super group has some potential. And I like the song too :D
Thomas should have started Just Like Vinyl a while ago. In the Unlikely Event should have been their first album followed by this one. Then we could still have the fall of troy :'(. Thumbs?
People do way to much bitching. This song is great, you're not gonna get used to it from one listen. They are making the music, not you. If you don't like the sound then get away from the page....That is all.
Not to sound like a person who hates change but this song just didnt do it for me like the old tfot songs frankly i believe thomas has lost his knack for making creative and meaningful lyrics not to say the song wasnt.......okay........ but personally i dont think it can compare to the kind of stuff tohmas made in tfot.
@pimpmasterjj He lost that creative prog sound when Tim left the band. You have to realize that three people were in TFOT, not just Thomas. Just because hes the frontman doesnt mean Andrew or Tim never put anything into the TFOT's sound that made it so unique and fucking raw. Not to down Frank, but if Tim didnt leave, In The Unlikly Event and Phantom on the Horizon remix would have been a much better/progressive sound. They lost that sound when Tim Stop contributing when he left, in my opinion.
@smokeyandcraig Thomas Eraks interview on Ultimate Guitar: "Sometimes I’ll write a full song. Andrew will write a song or Tim will have some stuff. Then we’ll kind of take it in and we’ll jam out." Stop being an ignorant fuck. You cant tell me that they didnt hold their own playing under their frontman or that they were fucking fill ins. Hell, when Tim left they released ITUE, which told me that Tim had a huge impact on TFOTs groove and feel. Have you ever truely listened to "The Dark Trail"?
@DcDoMiNaTor sometimes people will say things to be nice. ive never heard of a drummer writing guitar parts before...also, judging from the way tim played, im pretty sure he didn't write songs like nostalgic mannerisms. i heard thomas say in a video that he writes the whole song. it was in videos they were posting during their euro tour if you want to look it up. i really dont care either way. thomas writes the majority that's all that really matters.

@MisterGamer43 this. prog music is about pushing the boundaries of music, it was called progressive because it made progress. Technical music like BTBAM that changes throughout the song isn't really progressive
@DcDoMiNaTor Phatom on the Horizon was arguably their most progressive album. Tims presence did affect the music to a degree, but the bulk of fall of troy has always been the inventive riffing and Eraks vocals.

@DcDoMiNaTor granted thomas actually DID write all the drum, guitar, AND basslines for most of their songs, your point is still very valid. Not to mention they pretty much broke apart a family and added someone new into the mix, so that bond and connection just wasn't there.
This band will be different from TFoT. It's a different band after all. Thom wanted to take a more Hard Rock approach to it. Does it suck this isn't like TFoT? Yeah it really does, but I like this sound
tom said this was just a straight forward rock song, and Ive been assured deeper in the album there will be songs with more progressive elements. But so far, dissapoint.
