Heil is a very old word. It has many meanings, it is related to well, whole, wholesome, holy etc. The opposite would be kaputt, or broken. So "Heil Hitler" means "May Hitler be well". - Sieg means victory, so "Sieg Heil" translates to "May we be wholly victorious."
