  • Those pots are SOOOO Communist

  • how thin do you want ur walls when throwimg a flower pot?

  • @All4iTT It depends on how big the flowrpot is .. Say the wall on a 6 pound flowerpot is 7.25 inches tall.. the wall is as bit thicker then ,1/8 th inch

  • @guywolff ahh i see, thank you very much your videos really teach me and inspire me to carry and expand my skills as a potter, maybe one day i can make it look as easy as you do!

  • oh. my. god. where did you get those Portuguese pot lifters?!?! i must have them!!!! do you know who makes them?

  • I know are'nt they great . They are so simple . ITs a little wood and a jig saw . Two hinges and your home . Any handy friend can do it . I made them the morning I got home from Portugal .Start at 5" and make them every half inch . I made them up to 12" . All the best , Guy

  • I just so happen to be that handy friend! Sweet. Thanks so much!

  • That was fun Thanks.

    Felicity

  • Hey Guy, I'm a production potter myself, of much smaller work though (check out my vids). Your throwing is a great source of inspiration. Please keep posting vids, we have so much to learn from tradtionnal potters like you.

  • thanks guy, i threw a couple ten pounders and a twenty pounder of this shape, its a very fun shape to throw!

  • Great to hear !! Keep it up . Careful drying them . All the best , Guy

  • hey guy, i was wondering why you throw the pots and then put them on bats. whey not just throw them on a bat?

  • Hello, I love the torque of throwing directly on the wheel head . Its faster for me to be able to really push. I put pots on bats because they are flatter then the pine boards Ive had since 1971 . Pots of complicated form above 12 pounds I may make on bats and most pots over 25 pounds I make on bats . I use a ring of clay on the wheel for that as shown to me by the great Italian folk pottery Emanuel Rondinoni ... All the best , Guy

  • Man, yer good!

  • Thanks for the visit Peggy !! Yours Guy

  • Hi Guy, Nice video, thanks. I have just started to check out finger picking, I play a 12 string, think I might need to drop 6 strings to get it.;-) Love the banjo too, but never tried it.

I'm in CT too. ;-) Karen

  • Have a look at Leadbelly . He fingerpicked on a Stella 12 String . Wonderful sound. I love playing banjo so much !! Come visit . Im in Bantam ( a section of LItchfield ..)Directions at my website All the best , Guy

  • Hi Guy ...great video & nice to hear you rambling on ...bad as me eh ! regards SL

  • Hey SImon , Great to hear from you .. I hope its not as cold as we have been seeing here wherever you are today Devon or Spain . Thinking of you , Guy.

  • Guy ,You are a man of many talents.Very cool!

  • THanks Kevin, I started throwing as a teenager in New Hampshire but spent the summer before my senior year of High School at Jugtown Pottery in North Carolina . Thats where I fell in love with clawhammer banjo Clarence Ashley to be exact .. Happy new Year , Guy

  • Hey Guy, I'm a huge fan of your work (the Montecello pot in particular), and I was wondering a few things.

    1. How much clay (lbs) are you using for these repeat throws

    2. How do you get those darn stamps.

I'm in my third year of high school ceramics, and loving every second of it, but my teacher doesn't have time to work with me on minor details like making stamps, being in a mixed class (ceramics 1,2, and 3). If you can write me a quick how to that would be fantastic!

  • Hello . i am using a block of clay that is around 7 Pounds for these pots .. The stamps are made from antique lead type from old printing presses glued onto wood .. The type is very very hard to find.. All the best for now .I love making pots as well .. 16 to 59 is a long time to love something (and it keeps getting nicer !! Yours Guy

  • Guy, Thanks for showing us the details. I saw your pot design in Los Gatos California Smith & Hawkins. Told the Sales people to watch you on youtube. Very Cool.

  • Hey Judy , Thanks .. The G wolff pots at Smith and Hawken are made by a wonderful group of potters I have been working with for years through Aid To Artizans and Potters for peace .. They are great potters and very good people .. All the best , guy

  • I've never done any work with pottery at all, but this was very interesting! It appears to be superb workmanship. Thank you for posting.

  • Thanks Lawton for having a look and your kind words .. All the best , guy

  • Hi Guy!

Wonderful to see you throw again. It's quite amazing for an amateur like me to see how you got the one with the rip so well balanced and centered again. I would easily have given it up and taken the next ball of clay...

    Greeting you from Finland, Hanna

  • Hello Hanna , Yes I left that on the clip because it helps show what is possible with compression of the clay .. . You are kind to leave the nice note .. All the best , Guy

  • It is fantastic to see work!

    Kisses, Dalmira from Spain.

  • Thanks for having a look Daimira .. Yours in clay . Guy

  • thanks. most enjoyable watching your expert skills and listening to your pleasant commentary.

  • I left the pot with the rip in because I liked the ramblings I said while throwing it .(Also the student can see what compression can do to a rip ). . I never know what is coming out of my mouth till it is said .. Thanks , Guy

  • Fantastic! Love to see the inner workings from start to finish. Gives us a better appreciation of handmade objects.

    ♡ Thank you! Karolyn

  • Thanks for the visit and I love the heart . All the best , Guy
