There should be only one simple rule in F1 and it should say: Get the car through the circuit as fast as possible without killing yourself.
Compare F1 to WRC: In F1 they all complain about safety, not enough run-out places, "bumpy" or dirty track etc. While in WRC they drive at similar speeds through trees and ditches on gravel roads and nobody says anything about safety.
My point is: Safety should be left to the drivers themselfs, if you want to be safe, don't risk too much.
@Khazar01 What you say is interesting but impossible. Drivers have always tried to get the car around as fast as possible without killing everybody. It is not possible in practice.
@wks1978 Yes, i know what you mean, that's one of the reasons that F1 became boring. As weird or wrong as it sounds, people used to watch F1 because all that danger was involved,I'm not saying that we all wanted or expected anybody to crash, but the idea that a thing like that could happen and the idea that the drivers are on the edge made it more exciting.Today's drivers are not on the edge because they can't lose more than points. And that is like a video game, you press ESC and start again.
@Khazar01 i agree and disagree . the speeds rally cars do are nothing like formula one speeds . and of course rally cars go through dirt , they race in dirt , comparing the 2 are not possible . a car that is aero sensitive cant loose grip on dirt and still stay going the right direction ..... both are crazy though
@mushrume What you say is all true, you can't compare WRC with F1, I didn't mean to compare them, but did compare the safety in F1 and the safety in WRC.....
In F1 they have this wide tarmac tracks with lots of space to run out and they are still concerned about safety.
In WRC they drive on narrow bumpy roads with trees, ditches and jumps all around, and they don't seem concerned so much about safety as the F1 guys are....that was basically my point
The FIA didnt like all the technology on this car and subsiqently banned it all for the next season, this make the car un-drivable and i feel in part cost the great Senna his life.... :-(
Nice Vid! We can see this FW15C (Prost's car) is the car Prost used in Monaco 1993. The reason the car is the one used in Monaco is the following: the large rear wing we see in the video, and the 3 "skull & bones" on that rear wing, which means 3 wins. 3rd Prost's win in 1993 was Spain, so He went to Monaco and Canada with 3 "skull & bones" painted on it. So I'm pretty sure due to the type of rear wing, it's the car suited for Monaco 93, not Canada. Good looking machine, nice to see...
In regard to the "skull&bones", well, I don't know the way to name it in English, lol. It's not a "skull&bone" I have to say: the skull is replaced by the face of a the famous mouse that was the worldwide image for SEGA games. It's a childish "skull&bones2, lol, more appropriate for children rather than secret societies, lol.... Look the rear wing at 0:30min. You'll see the face of the SEGA mouse. Left and above the rear wing, you'll see the 3 small marks ("skull&bones") vertically placed!!!
Prost gave Ayrton some advice in regard to other topics, they talked about how difficult to drive was the car due to an original design based on Mansell requirements. While Nigel was a big guy, Prost and Senna were almost midgets, lol. That was the reason! Ayrton kept on telling Prost how uncomfortable that FW16 was and they agree on almost everything. I thought that maybe Prost was exaggerating about the car, and so Senna. But it was true: it was a shit in 1994. We know why. Really a pity...
Is this part of the reason why Senna wanted the steering extended? because the car had initially been built for someone who was 6'1 and nearly 200 lbs. While Prost was about 5'2 and Senna about 5'9.
Somehow dalebshelton buddy, you're not wrong: The car was designed for Mansell. Prost and Senna found it very difficult to drive due to its shape and the placing of the "weights" (ballast). Electronic aids were a help for Prost in some way, but his car was difficult to drive. When Prost talked about it to Senna when the befriended. Ayrton agreed. He also found it difficult to drive and was irritated with his position on the car. The steering was modified in Imola 94 and we know what happened.
I always remember a chat between Ayrton and Alain, after Prost retirement, when they had just become good buddies. Senna called home Prost (unbelievable!), they talked for about 3 hours on the phone. Ayrton told Prost that He didn't like the car at all. Prost told him some advice in regard to the car and said to him (textual quote):"be careful with the chassis, the car is not easy to drive". Ayrton replay was: "you're right, I didn't imagine the car was so difficult to drive, you did it well!".
You have very good information - how do you know aboutthis conversation between Prost and Senna on the phone - it's very interesting. Thanks for posting.
The information about that conversation was told by Prost himself, to Christopher Hilton and some other good reporters. Now: I wanted to know if that conversation was really that way so I asked about it to a very close Argentinean Friend of Ayrton, who I contacted in 2001, who even telling every shit possible about Prost, affirmed to me that the conversation really happened and according to what Senna told him, it was exactly the way Prost had revealed...
Even when this car was technically a superb advanced machine, the car itself was very difficult to drive. No comparison with the superiority that FW14B had. While FW15C was designed for Mansell, the drivers who had to drive it were Prost and Hill. That was one of the reasons why Prost found it very difficult to drive (and so Hill). If not for Prost skills in regard to setting up a car things wouldn't have seemed so easy....

Your Kidding Right? Just because there is no traction control or active suspension..that's 15 yrs ago,,,there are much more advance componets..computers...metals parts. EVER BUILT? your a fucking idiot
Some of greatest champions didn't won because they were necessarily the fastest/ most skilled but because of their work ethic, preparation, analytic spirit, setup skills, capacity to socialize and communicate well with the engineers and mechanics. Some, like Jack Brabham, even created his own team and co-designed his own cars witch won him the driver's title in 66 and constructor title in 66 and 67.
I totally agree with you. This 2010 season is one of the best i can ever remember!!! 4 drivers in a chance for the title in the last race of the season.... A FIRST in F! history. Nuff said :)
If active suspension retuns by FIA Williams will be return their dominant in F1 because Williams is a team most sucsessful developmens with active suspension .
So they would just pick up back in 93 and none of the developements in the last 15 years in F1 would matter or Active suspension would matter..Williams would just shoot to the top right. Renault was using liquid componets in 2006 as balance that was so advance that it was banned by the FIA. IF not for the Renault Engines extra 80+horses, it can be argued that McLarens active ride was every bit as good, Williams couldn't even keep up with Mcalren at the end of 93 in Japan, Portugal and Australia
Yeah they would just walk back to storage and pull out the old hyralics from 1993, pull the springs out and it would just be "bang, back to the front huh". It pisses me off when idiots like you talk about F1. Have you ever actually talked to someone envolved in F1 and even understand how the whole thing even works and how quickly it can be enterchanged from passive and active? Don't post anymore until you understand what the hell your talking about.

Ich bin ein sehr großer Fan von Senna. Ich finde es sehr toll sich alte Rennen von ihm anzusehen.
Ich verkaufe alle Formel 1 Rennen seit 1985 auf DVD.

good observation, luciano. Canada is impossible because wings there are were little to reduce airrestistance.

Why did they use "skull and bones" image? Any connection to the infamous secret society George Bush and many others are part of?

Last of the true breed of Grand Prix racercars.
Now F1 is so much better with these boring
aero-sensitive/aero-dirty spec-cars to promote driving skill.
What B*.
I watch motorsport NOT for "driving skill", but because of the competition (and the technical competition is and important part of it).
Now F1 become a marketing business to sell drivers to the legions of blind fanboy worshipers.
Catch up to survive & innovate to win, that's how it used to be in the old days.

You dont watch motorsport for driving skill?! WTF?!?
And oh yes we all remember 07 and 08!
To years with 3 and 2 drivers within ONE point from the championship...we were all bored to death?!
"Catch up to survive & innovate to win"...well that still the real world!
In to large doses, nostalgia is like a poison to the mind...then EVERYTHING was better in "the good ol' days"!
Even those seasons when after 2 races we all knew who was going to win it all!
I dont buy it for a second!
