  • Yes, I do talk to her, but not during training. There was a group of kids, doing gymnastics, and the clicker was being used to help mark the precise time they were correct. They said they really felt this was helpful, but were very frustrated that the instructor kept also talking and 'cheerleading' them along. So I leave the animals alone that I work, allowing them to process the clicks.

  • Viki, just wondering do you at all talk to Roxy, I noticed that you said, she might not know her name.

I hope she can stay with you, it seems like such a safe and happy place her her.

  • Glad you like the video. Yes she is a Chow. She is a lovely dog, and coming along so well. She will be staying with someone else for a few weeks. The day after I post a video, she is steps furthur along yet.

  • lovely video.. poor dog though..hope she can get out of her old ways..

    is she a chow?

  • Roxy looks great and you are doing a wonderful job with her. How much linger is she going to be with you?? I sure hope she doesn't go back to her previous home as she needs very special care and training from an experienced and patient person. What are your thoughts Viki??

  • Thank you. I don't know how much longer I will have her. I am slowly able to treat her as a 'normal' dog, rushing by her, dropping things, without her panicking. I can now get hold of her collar, digging it out of all her fur, and removing it, and later putting it back on.

She is slowly becoming a 'normal' dog, but I think she could easily slip back to her old, scared ways...after all, this was the way she was in the beginning. She needs a lot of time and work, learning to be 'normal'.

  • Great video, good breed to work with on gaining trust. I also take it slow with new dogs and prefer shaping and naming behaviors instead of trying traditional leash & correction obedience right away.

  • Thank you. For me, now, clicker training IS traditional. It is what I do. I never do leash or correction training.

  • Thank you! Yes, I think there are a lot of people who think the dog should be called for the Come Game. No point calling this dog, as she has NO idea that human sounds mean anything! I am tempted to scream at her, to see if she is afraid of that, but of course I won't! But saying anything got no result before. Now she definately knows what 'cookie' means, so that is pretty nice! I doubt she knows her name, or anything else.

  • I love it! As well as showing us how Roxy is doing, you show proper training of levels behavior!

  • Thank you

  • ...your doing such a great job well done to both of you
