I had a 1998 Toyota 4runner and I toadled it mothers day 2010 and the air bags didn't depoly abd I was safe. Only a little seat belt burn on my neck. I was in the wreck at 45mph.

Just in reply to the folks rabbitting on about crashes at over 60mph. Your cells turn to gel? I'm sure something not too dissimilar was claimed about people travelling more than 4mph when the railway train was invented...!

I had a head on in my Celica at 60mph, car coming the other way was doing something similar. We both walked away without serious injury.

Dunno what his car ended up like but when I went to check over mine the chassis was visibly twisted from the impact.

well the reason they don't do test at those speeds is because it is highly unlikely someone would survive a crash of that severity , that is why it is done at a modest highway speed

40 is street driving and 'O SHIT" last minute braking... and its into something solid, so even if you hit a car that is holding the brakes down your going to move it= not as soviur as a solid wall

@CrazyDave650 The offset is a more severe test. It loads all of the crash force on 1 side of the vehicle, causing any weak structures to fail even more, look up the 97 ponitac transport/montana crash test, worst they ever did!

maybe the airbag sensor didn't see a need for the airbags to deploy. it most likely determined that the seatbelt pretensioner was only needed in your type of accident.

on october a tractor trailer cut me off and slammed against the medium and i rolled twice after that in my 99 4runner and since i had my seatbelt and i was in the 4runner i walked away from it. 4runner saved my life. no scratches. go toyota

how are they th ebest...accordin ihhs lexus is now the safest. with many standard safety equipment...yes i will give it to you volvo was the father of safety but there not any more...its 2009 things have changed..they went downhill toyota wen up hill thats how it goes. Lexus is recieved top safety pick for entry level luxury sedans.

Yes toyota went upphill and volvo downhill because FORD sucks they cannot sell cars. Check the volvo v70,xc90,xc60,s80, and know the new s60 comes they are such safe. The volvo has always been safe. Lexus is safe 2009? Volvo has always been safe.

Last year I was in a really bad car crash, but I was wearing my seet belt and my 91 4runner took the crash so well I was able to walked away. If you wont a safe car get a 4runner. It saved my life.

Haha, i actually wrapped my 03' 4runner around a telephone pole to where the rear axle was about 2 feet from the front axle and it still started up. Great Car, got the same year, model, engine everything as my old one again and i love it.

Toyotas are amazing aren't they. I thought only the old ones were good. But look at it. The body and frame did absolutly no shifting or bending. American truck owners could learn from this. He right i have a 2004 4runner and i already got into an accident skidding off the road in bad winter weather with the 2WD and the TCS off and when it hit the tree at 35 MPH the engine shut off and nothing the the car moved whatsoever and i did not feel any force on that crash what so ever

did cost about 11,000 to fix tho
