I would say that this is a bad game if it was to be called shining force 4,but because it is not an official sequel to our beloved series,I say it's good game,I have fun playing both neo and exa,even do I would rather like classic S. Force,this spin offs are O.K. in my opinion.

You've definitely gotta try SF Final Conflict and SF Cd if you haven't yet. SF Final Conflict links 1 and 2 and reveals a lot about SF2. I haven't played SF3 yet either though.

It is just a butchering of the original premise. The SF series was taken away from the team who made the original games (up to SF3) and now they're pretty much just random RPGs with the Shining brand name stuck on, nothing to do with the original series whatsoever. Even if they make a strategy RPG, it's unlikely to be anything like the old games.

Shining was once my favourite series, so I have yet to forgive Sega for it. :/

To me, Shining force exa is better than all the other ones of this series, cause it doesn't have that crappy graphic in shining force 2. And I'm sooo jealous cause I wanted the characters to speak in japanese since I could understand them, but it just HAD to be english, only Cyrille's voice sounds good.

I like this games mainly because it has the best animated CG out of any Anime drawing base game. The costume change / Armor was the best I ever seen on any RPG games. I wished other RPG would fellow the costume change.

The best shining force is still the 2, i like the skill grinding in EXA but the story sucks and its always big mobs group spawning everywhere that get killed in 2 sec cuz you have good gear, no strategy at all. I really dont recommend it, go buy Champions or Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 1&2 if you like this kind of game...

I had to download the Sega CD one in rom format because I couldn't find a Sega CD to buy anywhere. Hope the PS2 one is decent, i'll try it soon. 1 and 2 are classics, i replay them both many times.

recommended party: using your party as offense is a bad idea. your party is mainly use as support and defence. here are the best character to have:

faulklein: healer,but weak def.

avalon: turns enemies to stone (hero & worm)and has high hp and def.

garyu/adam: has big hp and big bodies, good as blocker and defence.
