  • Now THIS is Bluegrass at its best !

  • Is that John Prine at 4:00?

  • @EdSlare Looks like it.

Fitting that he is pretty much the only one they don't name. He's so under appreciated!!! A legend.

Regardless, this is an unreal collection of artists singing a timeless song.

  • @EdSlare HOLY CRAP! I think it IS JP! I've watched this vid 200 times and always wondered why Prine wasn't there. GREAT GREAT GREAT catch Ed!!!

  • Praise Jesus.

    Love you Daniel C.

  • I used to listen to this song on a CD. Still one of me and my dad's favorite songs.

  • Amen!!!! God is Good...

  • We buried my Mom this past year. I sang a very upbeat hymn she had requested, Lord of the Dance and everyone, Dad included said it was the most peaceful funeral he'd ever attended. However, my tears stayed unshed until tonight. Thank you for posting healing, haunting, beautiful version. I was thinking of another version to share with one of my boys and this one caught me off guard. We'll see you again Mom and we can sing together again.

  • To all the Wilkerson's. I Still Love You.

  • We played this haunting but finally free song at my mommas wake. It brought solace, because she was in pain no longer, and she was FINALLY FREE of all of this constant struggle and dispair. I miss her company, her laughter, her beautiful smile; but I am glad that she nor my daddy(they passed within 4 months of each other) are no longer suffering from horribly cruel diseases. We WILL see them again. so no, the circle has NOT been broken. Love you Mom & Dad

  • Reminds me that Levon helm should record a pure bluegrass-album.

  • What an amazing gathering of the best in country and bluegrass music!

  • I hate country- with the burning passion of a thousand suns... but, I absolutely love the soul and emotion poured in to this song... It's phenomenal.

  • haha i love how most of people now come here because of bioshock

  • @sailentxx Why Bioshock?

  • @Master100Mind 'tis a game long awaited thats coming out soon and this song was used in one of the trailers, you can check youtube via "vga 2001:bioshock infinite exclusive trailer" cheers

  • One of the best rendition of "Will the circle be unbroken" I have ever heard, and ever will hear.:D

  • BIOSHOCK INFINITE

  • God Bless Danile C. W. E7.

    LOVE U DAD.

  • TIMELESS

  • where can I get this song? It's not on iTunes...

  • @bigstitz It is on itunes under Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Will the Circle be Unbroken $1.29 best version is the May 1989(which is this version) Good Luck!

  • I'm curious, is that Dan Akroyd at about 4:01 in the video? It sure looks like him, and there's nothing wrong with adding some "blues" to the song. :-)

  • @helo821ab Hi Airborne ~ no, at 04:01 I see June Carter Cash (Mother Maybelle's little girl and Johnny's darling wife), with someone behind her who looks a little like Dan, but it's not him. You can stop-frame for a better look by pressing the "Captain's bars" at the lower-left of the window frame.

  • Emmylou Harris, I will always love you. Seeing you in this video makes my heart sing ~(in harmony, of course).

  • Thanks so much for posting this! I was raised in the South as Southern Baptist, and it was a Requirement, To Know this Song! not really, but we all sang it a lot~!Still means a Lot to me~! Great Video all those Special Souls singing! God Bless~!!♥Donny

  • well done.

  • That looked like John Prine near the end...

  • i want this played at my funeral.....

  • Love U Daniel C. Wilkerson.

Warm, safe, happy and without pain...please dear JESUS.

    AMEN,

  • Amazing

  • I "lost" my mother in May of this year. When I first found out about her passing this was the first song that came to mind. I love this song It gave me some peace and a sense of calm knowing my mother was going to a better place.

    Thanks for posting.

I know she is not really lost that she is in a better place..Miss you mom.

  • this is so beautiful

  • Has it really been 22 years since this brilliance was done?? Good Lord.

I always thought greatness was something that was done long ago but seems like yesterday.

    This is just another affirmation.

  • My grandma's fav :)

I never got to meet her. Thanks for posting this.

  • I'm glad ya'll like it. I like all kinds of music but I love this one :-)

  • George Jones should have been included in this. Same goes for Randy Travis, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard and Loretta Lynn.

  • @HTownCountryFan So Right...and Doc Watson.

  • @neurofire Yeah, he shoulda been in this one, but i think this version is a bit too rockin' for him.

  • A September Sunday of last year. I had just come off a terrible binge of cocaine. My girlfriend was with me through the whole year as I went through the hell of withdrawal. She asked me to go with her to Second Baptist that Sunday morning. I was scared that I'd be judged. We got out of her car, walked hand in hand up those steps as the congregation sang, "Will the Circle be unbroken." Rev. Phelps breached on the son whom the Father welcomed home. Praise Jesus, the sun came out that day.

  • when i first saw this video, my heart just lit up when i saw that John Hiatt was part of this :)

  • Awesome !! Haven't seen this video in years. Thanks for posting it.

  • how i wish more people in the world held the same values and integrity as these people did.

  • immenso

  • true americana

  • Great, marvelous. Would have been even more to my liking, if the tempo was a bit slower :-)

  • it saddens that they felt it was necessary to put Roy Acuff's name on the screen. He's the godfather and nobody knows who he is. Or RIcky Skaggs or any of the others named here. But in a way I'm glad it was done. Let's the younger generations know who to thank for singing and making great music...very unlike what we have to listen to today.

  • This was played at my grandfather's funeral. He loved to sing this song whenever he was working. :)

  • Doesn't get better then this!

  • Almost perfect but needs more cowbell.

  • 1:16 his hair looks like a sheep ;D

  • 4 people have a broken circle

  • @belevit I can relate I lost Dad nearly 4 months ago.

  • WHAT A OUTSTANDING JOB !!!!!

  • Is Roseanne Cash layin' down an upright bass groove @ 03:15? SWEET. I knew she sang but didn't know she had bass chops!

  • @RaincloudmusicTFS6 no if u look really close at the bass neck u'll see she's standing in front of it and another person's playin the bass

  • @metalabsynth

Thanks! (I knew that looked kinda strange!!!)

  • @RaincloudmusicTFS6 no problem brother

  • I have searched for this song! Oh, how I cry everytime I listen to it!

  • While someone, somewhere is hearing this there will always be hope

  • About all you can say is "WOW"

  • Please update this video, I'm going home to my family reunion this weekend, my grandparents raised me and my grandmother will turn 90 years in a couple of days. I'm very selfish and not quite ready to let this great lady go yet. But when the Lord does decide to call her home. I would love to post this video and it would dishearten me greatly to not be able to find it. Thank You

  • O my God! Never has a song brought tears to my eyes like this song has!

  • This is my daddys favorite song, He printed out the lyricks and now always sings it going around the house :)) He wants it as his funeral song :'). Its such a beautiful song with some of the greatest country singers that lived.

  • this is for my husband and my daddy, who both died way too soon. RIP

  • @Katragew I'm sorry for your loss.

  • @MrThejohnny08 Thank you...I saw Bob Dylan last night in person. My husband loved him and my daddy played some of his music in a bluegrass group. I went in honor of them. He sang Girl from the North Country, which I hadn't heard him sing since he sang it with Johnny Cash. I know they were both there with me.

  • Some churches have a Communion rail built in a half-circle. The idea is that on the other side of the veil are those who died believing in Jesus. Their souls are in Jesus' presence in heaven on the other side of the circle. Jesus keeps the circle unbroken. He brings heaven to earth in His Supper. This gave me a lot of comfort as my mother was dying a year ago yesterday and as my nieces and nephews gathered and sang this song.

  • this song gives me chills also, it;s hard to loose a mother on your 15th b-day,time helps heal wounds, but the scar still remains.BO, IM NOW 39

I buried my mom on Christmas day and my sister died 2 days after Easter.

They have no more pain and no more sorrow. Praise thy name LORD and the victory that we have with YOU. Thank You. Amen

I miss her more than ever. My greiving has been done alone as I had to be the strong one for everyone else. "If you still have your Mama with you...call her as much as possible and let her know you love her. I sure wish I could!!! I love you Mama!!!

  • My mother died in May 2009--she was my best friend and for months I could still smell the food she used to cook and I could hear her voice. I expected to see her sitting playing her PS2 when I would come home for lunch. Even now I find myself tearing up. I love and miss her so much. All I have now are the memories. There are things I cannot do now--because we used to do them together. I miss her so much.
