  • The Emory character represents so much what I dislike in certain gay men- the mincing, effeminate, unreliable, selfish, attention-hungry, self-hating, untrustworthy, criminal, nut job. That stereotype needs to pass away! Whenever I run into a character like that at a party I go the other way.

  • @shamalama68 Really? I just adore Emory! But then, I don't have to deal with him in real life!!

  • Where are those cards issued?

  • Anybody know the name of the song playing beginning at 6:45 ?

  • @bluecatky It sounds like a James Brown. I think it's called "You've got to see."

  • was being gay in the 70s a good thing? was there any prejudice or hate or did it happen after aids?

  • @thrashdouche21 Oh Sweetie, Gays had it so hard in the 1970's. They lost their jobs, homes, custody of their Children. Jane Alexander & Geena Rowlands did a Movie about a Lesbian Mother who lost custody of her kids. The late Fashion Designer Halston had a SOB Boyfriend named "Victor Hugo", and he tried to dump him and when he tried, Victor threatened to "Out" him. Also, look at Calvin Klein, he finally came out, had a Twenty Year Old Boy Toy but kept his sexuality a secret for a long time.

  • @laminage wow, thanks for the info , i imagined the 70s as freewheling and fun and people doing what they wanted(i guess not for gays)and assumed the aids epidemic was the cause of most of homophobia, but we have come along way

  • @thrashdouche21 People knew how to have fun but when AIDS came along, so many amazing people died. I remember how shocked I was when I found out that the late Robert Reed (Mike Brady) The Brady Bunch was gay. Oh here's a fun fact, when you see Donald talking about his Analyst, Chester Weinberg The Mentor Of Calvin Klein went for therapy to "cure" himself but he realized that it was okay to be gay. Sadly enough, he died in 1985, shortly after Rock Hudson did.

  • cliff gorman in reality was actually a straight one yes??? he was pretty convincing though,,great actor!! loved him in police story!!

  • @modelsillustrated Did you know that whenever he was in public with his Wife, people would admonish him for "Lying." He and his wife took in Robert La Torneaux (Cowboy), when he was diagnosed with AIDS.

  • @modelsillustrated Yeah, look at Gale Harold (Ex-Brian Kinney Queer As Folk), or Heath Ledger or Jake Gyllenhall in Brokeback Mountain. Another great convincing characters are Jessica Leccia, Crystal Chappel, and Nadia Bjorlin from The Webseries Venice.

  • this was amazing i loved cliff gorman R.I.P, great actor

  • Looks like fun, I wish I were at that party, haha. The camp guy is a riot.

  • It's amazing....This was released in 1970 yet the stage play was written in the late to mid 1960's so what we are seeing regarding the language Pre-Stonewall

The stage Play was released in 1968

    Love this film.

  • @sydneygayboi What is the Stonewall thing everyone is talking about? I've never heard of it.

  • i love the way michael says " BITCH "! lol

  • I love these guys. How fantastic. Thanks for posting.

  • When he said "ask him if he has any hot crossed buns" i started choking... i love the dialogue :D

  • Cliff Gorman! Versatile! Great work.

  • La Dolce Vita, Has a Gay Scene, With straights, That everyone is playing similar game like in this film, That was in 59, I think what set this Film/play to be released was a Film Called "The Detectives" with Frank Sinatra. So, This IMHO, Maybe be the aftermath of that film, But, With a more positive tone to the Situation, of that time of being gay. It's a Dark Comedy. but, Like I said , this is only my Humble Opinion. I'm not an expert, I thought it was a great film when it came out. btw, imstrgt

  • EL QUE SE QUIEBRA MAS DE ELLOS SE PARECE A CHRISTIAN LA AMIGA DE LA MANIGUIS JAJAJA... QUE CHIDA FIESTECITA!!!

  • Emery was married in real life. So the most faggy one was straight.

  • early out gays tryin to live through the hate society rained on em

  • Spoken like a transparent pickled old fart. Way to project your own obvious misery.

  • back then it really was like that ... sort of

  • @papoocanada so why are you watching it? please try to remember this was 40 years ago!

  • What was the first American film to use the word fuck? Nothing against it, I just find it really cool they're saying it in a film from 1969. I lawyas assumed it wasn't until well into the 70's they were allowing the language we all normally use.

  • @ksb78 You should watch the IFC documentary Indie Sex. It's available streaming on Netflix. There's a good segment on Censorship that goes through the whole time line of acceptability.

  • @srb4887 Oh thanks. Will surely check it out.

  • @ksb78 if this movie wasn't the first, it must have definitely been ONE OF the first. Consider that that the film version of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" from 1966 (less than four years before "Boys in the Band"), while the screenplay was a nearly verbatim recreation of Albee's original play, nearly all of the dozen or so profane words used in the play had to be substituted in the film to satisfy the censors. They came a long way in four years, in terms of language!

  • yes

  • Didn't the actor who played Linc Tyler on ALL MY CHILDREN appear in this film?

  • @Soapking1965 Yes, I thought I was the only one who noticed that. Now that you mention it "AMC" has always been a Gay Friendly Town and in 2003 it had the first Same Sex Kiss between two women. Hard to believe that it's cancelled.

  • Fictional characters want to adopt your children? Are your children up for adoption?

  • Wow, you created a dummy account just to write that? You must be woefully haunted by the homosexual within yourself. Pathetic.

  • which includes YOU or you would'ntbe here..

  • i know im the same.love the film to death.ive only got it on video and the sounds going.can iget it on dvd anywhere.bearcubster thanks for reply.

  • ebay on dvd

  • thanks i never thought about ebay.ive got paypal acc.

  • you can get it on dvd on ebay ...

  • I've always wanted to know what became of the actors in this film...and then I didn't want to know, for the sake of the film. Does any of the above make sense?

  • With the exception of Larry Luckinbill (Lucy Arnaz's husband) they have all sadly passed on. Cliff Gorman (Emory) died a few years ago from cancer)

  • Thats ironic that Larry Luckinbill is the last surviving cast member being that he was the oldest of the group or seemed to be the oldest..

Thanks for replying to my earlier comment.

  • Not Reuben Greene. Though he retired from acting years ago, last I checked, he is still alive.

  • Not true - Cliff Gorman died from leukemia and Reuben Greene is still alive.

  • what about donald ?

  • @TIPTON340 so NOT true...where do you get you're information from CRACKER JACK?!

  • what does ball me mean

  • Oh Mary, DON'T ASK!!!!

  • @craiggybear He's so quotable, it hurts, in my funnybone.

  • I believe he says "blow me" -- do you get it now???

  • ive always said they should have used this film in psychology class to studt group dynamics.does anyone else agree.i havent found many people who want to chat about this film.

  • I want to talk about this film... so if you want, send me a message(s)

  • the layout of the apartment is very unusal esp. the way the steps lead up to the second floor.

  • can some kindly queen with endless movie trivia in his head remind me the name of the actor playing the hot hot Larry? He always made me insane!!!

  • imdb is your friend.

  • The actor you are referring to is Keith Prentice who sadly enough died of AIDS.

  • I always thought Keith Prentice was the cutest of the actors, and Larry was my third favourite character (after Michael and Emory): the gay lothario with a heart of gold. He reminded me of an old boyfriend who I haven't seen in years, but who I still love. :-(

  • Keith Prentice was very, very, very, handsome in fact soooo handsome he was the model on the Sanka coffee label for many years! That profile as a young boy really turned me on! And he was GAY... WOW!

  • 4:28 - 4:49 ironically made me take pause to actually entertain the idea that Cliff Gorman, who plays Emory, may have very well been straight in real life as has been documented because no one with a penis and a healthy pair of balls could possibly be that gay. LOL. That had to be acting.

  • He was Oscar worthy if you ask me.

Just because he was a highly straight man, playing almost a woman!

    OSCAR!

  • Indeed!

  • He was indeed straight, happily-married, but gay friendly as they come.

This said I don't see the link between gayness and penis and balls.

  • point taken :)

  • Gorman was also apparently very kind. Many sources document the tough life the actor who played "Cowboy", had in the years after the film, leading to his eventual incarceration, drug habit and infection with HIV. Gorman and his wife reportedly took care of him during the final years of his llfe.

  • ask him if he's got any Hot Cross bunsssssssssss!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!

  • That line always gets a laugh from me.

  • 9:36 LOLOLOLOL

  • Hey do you guys know that the fellow who played Alan would also play Linc Martin on All My Children in the 1970's.

  • That's not surprising. The actors were all New York stage actors, and most soaps were filmed in New York during the '50s, '60s and '70s.

  • Oh if you want to see an Old School Clip type in Guiding Light/Secret Storm promos. Larry Luckinbill was on The Secret Storm. Also, William Christian (Ex-Derek Frye) from All My Children played Bernard in an Off Broadway Production.

  • 8:23 LOLOLOLOL

  • Anything for a sis, Mary!

  • Wow..."who do you have to f*ck to get a drink around here?" So this is where this started...

  • YAY again

  • Not only that, darling, but I just ADORRRREEEE the way they say "kunt"!!

  • As hysterical as the lines are, you also realize how smart and eclectic you have to be to truly appreciate this play: Ayn Rand, Tennessee Williams, Maria Montez, Vera Hruba Ralston. Wow!

  • @buddy69r That's a very good point! Not too many remember Maria Montez or Vera Hruba Ralston today. But years ago it was a different story.
