Hey UWP did a better job doing their 4 halftime shows than the black eyed peas can do in one. The Black Eyed Peas halftime show this year sucked donkey ass.
Yeah, I know, it looks like the precursor to present day "Glee", perhaps, but wow, what a time it was on the road with these phenomenal folks from all over the world! I was in Cast C. I suppose it was fitting that Jenny Belk ( daughter of J. Blanton Belk, UWP's founder) should be traveling with the group on both her and the organization's 20th year. The experience was part "Sound of Music" and part "Full Metal Jacket"..LOL But, it was literally a God send to me. Thanks for the memories!
I remember watching this show as a kid being amazed at the size of it. American football wasnt on tv much in the uk until the 80's Not seen the half time show since 86 how cool is the Internet
I was a Marine at NAS Belle Chasse and I was in charge of a bunch of Marines and Sailors who were in the light ring in the top of the Dome to provide the lighting effects. We covered the lights with curtains because they could not turn off the lights and wait 30 minutes for them to cool before turning them on again. Got a field pass for my efforts. Best job ever.
Never forgotten! I was in Cast C85 (along with a couple other commenters). What an experience! I was in marching band all through school, and getting to perform (even if not with my trumpet) in this event was incredible. Brings back memories and a smile every time I watch this. Thanks for posting!
I had the privilege of working on the stage in Tucson and setting it up in Kenner. The cast practiced on it during the day and we worked repairing it until midnight so the cast could practice on it the next day again.
I was one of those dots that pushed the sections together. Coolest thing I was ever a part of.
I've got 3 of our 4 halftimes on VHS... a glimpse of the 1st can be seen in the movie BLACK SUNDAY, with Tom Sullivan & casts singing the National Anthem. Thanx for posting, Steve- it's nice not having to fast-forward my tape to watch it! :)
EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some of y'all were my 'kids' We were a Tucson Host Family from 1979 till UWP moved to Denver.... Still have fantastic memories and have gotten to see some students during reunions here in Tucson.
Where are the snipers when you need them? I can not believe that this passed as entertainment. Enough talent to sing in High School show.... on national stage what a joke. You guys suck
LOL- we "sucked" so much, we've done FOUR halftimes, more than ANY major celebrity. We're still going since 1965, with over 20,000 international students involved over the years. We don't join UWP based on our performing talent- we participate to learn and make the world a better place for humanity.
Obviously, for YOU, entertainment is watching Janet Jackson's mutilated nipple... people with your low mentality aren't who we cater to.
7 months have gone by and I still think this form of entertainment does not belong on a superbowl stage. There is a reason why you have not been invited back to the national stage. You have limited amounts of talent which belongs on cruise ship or theme park. Al Hirt, Pete Fountain and Florida A&M, other "great" multi superbowl performers. Nice company. Thousands of children get trophy's from AYSO for paticipating in Soccer, it does not mean they belong in the world cup.
How awesome... I was in Cast A86 the year of this show. How greatful to be apart of the UWP experience and changes in millions of lives around the world for the better good!
To the poster that asks what are the names of the songs. The Up With People songs go as "Beat of the Future, We'll be there!, Talking with my feet. and Room for everyone. To name a few...it's been awhile since I heard
them.I travelled during that same show theme "Beat of the Future" the year after this Super Bowl. Way to go "Up With People" So proud of what you stand for' God Bless those that bring a positive message to the world!
Man this is so clean and sanitised compared to the satanic and esoteric halftime ritual, I mean show of this year...
