If Art Lande just stuck to playing piano and restricted himself to any one style he'd probably be more well known and successful but then he wouldn't "be" Art Lande.
He's been mixing his music with little bits of poetry, theater and performance art since 1972 in my experience and he's unlikely to stop now.
just thought I'd mention that they'll be performing again this May at the college with the Ukiah Symphony... I already bought tickets on the symphony's website... :)
A better title for this video would be 'Lost In The Hours', which is the name of the 'conventional' tune they play after the free improv intro. It was written by Mc Candless and recorded by Oregon on the CD 'Northwest Passage.' If you ever have a chance to see Art & Paul (or their trio 'Hidden Jewel'), don't miss it. They're phenomenal.

My cat just ran out of the room, annoyed; he's apretty good critic.
Art Lande should just stick to piano and leave the bad comedy to professionals.

Maybe one of the best intros I've ever heard to a piece of music. If you don't get it at first, then keep listening.
