We bought Cities and Knights and was missing the event die does any one know how to get a hold of the manufacturer so we can ask fo r a replacement? I was really choked we've owned the game 2.5 years and never played it.
We LOVE the Cities and Knights expansion! You should just make yourself an event die. Three sides of the die have a black ship icon. A blue castle is on another side, a yellow castle is on another side and the last side of the die is a green castle.
Just make little stickers to place over a normal die. You should really play that expansion. It has a lot of rules but is my favorite so far!
@Flatline1111 The rule book does not suggest doing so, because you will have to make houserules in order to do so. There are components in T&B which can be used with every expansion. Also, running C&K with any other expansion would make an already long game even longer (3 hours +).
Watch Tom's other dicetower videos to learn exactly what each expansion does to the game. You'll have fun no matter which one's you buy.
Nice review. May need to pick it up sometime. And you're right. This game completely sucked me into gaming. Ever since my family got it, we've gotten Catan on our iPods, Dominion, Scotland Yard, Killer Bunnies, and, coming up quick as my new favorite, Carcassonne. Man, I love gaming.
Strange you don't like Cities & Knights, as it's the favorite of literally everyone we play with... we find it keeps the game interesting and fast paced, the original settlers while still good isn't quite as exciting without C&K. The only time we play the original settlers alone anymore is when we play with new players.
...continued... Being logical you won't have to refer to the rule book too often. (Admitedly we keep a "short form" set of notes handy, to remind us of certain issues, such as how Wagons can move, and how Knights battle Barbarians etc.) Hint - buy or make a gaming board so long games can be picked up and slid away under the bed, brought out to play again next week.. Mr Tubers logical intuitive expansion here is a good one, once basic game, and Seafareres is mastered.
A great expansion once your familiar with basic Settlers and Seafarers.
It's great as it adds complexity to the basic game, and you can build that complexity up step by step, by first playing each variant in this expansion. Then throw out the ones you don't like, keeping the ones you enjoy. We enjoy Barbarian Attack, River Crossings and Wagon Trading senarios. We use a full rectangular board with sea and islands... Boy it does get complex, but it's mostly intuitive, i.e logical. continued...
I think I'm going to look into Seafarers. Knights and Cities looked a little too in depth. This one has some things I probably wouldn't ever use. I'll probably just print off a Harbor Master card and call it good.
What else can you do with the hexes that you can build roads on? They were the only other thing that really piqued my interest.
Cities and Knights is better than Seafarers (in my catan fan opinion). Settlers of the Stone Age is another catan game that is great. Esp as it has extra desert hexes that are played during the game. When another player puts a desert hex over your property - it is history, eroded, caput! :)
Do you have a review of the base game? I'm trying to get my friend psyched to play the game and because she's a boardgame virgin. I thought showing one of your reviews would help give her an idea of what the game is about but I can't find a review of the base game by you. You do best reviews.
If you haven't done one already please review the base game.
I want to see Holly eat some settlers houses and roads! They're full of fiber! :-)
cities and knights is awesome!! sure it added more time to the game..but it was more fun added.

Can you play Cities & Knights, Seafarers, and Traders and Barbarians all at the same time? Never played any of them, just wondering.

No need to hate on Cities and Knights, it's not nearly as complicated as you're implying.

Traders and Barbarians (the variant included in this set) is a blast. Everyone in my family prefers it to the base game.

Great work, Tom.
I've had this box collecting dust for a month, but this actually inspired me to try out the fisherman variant.

You actually introduced the expansion as "Traders & Builders," which, as you know, is a classic Carcassonne expansion.
Glad to see you review this title, I've been interested in learning more about it. Thanks Tom.
