  • LYRICS : ENGLISH TRANSLATION

    (Dante : Towards the Sky)

O you out there, inside your tiny little barge,

    eager to listen, following behind

my ship that, singing, crosses to deep seas,

Don't set out into the deep, for fear that, perhaps,

losing sight of me, you be left adrift.

The waters that I sail were never crossed before

Athena inspires me, Apollo is my helmsman.

And the nine Muses show me the Bear Star.

  • LYRICS:

(Dante : Il chant - Verso il cielo)

O voi che siete in piccioletta barga,

    desiderosi d'ascoltar, seguiti

dietro al mio legno che cantando varca,

Non vi mettete in pelago, che' forse,

    perdendo me, rimarreste smarriti.

    L'acque ch'io prendo gia` mai non si corse;

    Minerva spira e conducemi Appollo,

e nove Muse mi dimostram l'Orse.

  • Absolutely haunting and beautiful. A masterpiece.

  • Watching Kieslowski makes me want to learn polish (nothing to do with the video, I know, but what can I say? that I love this music? OF COURSE)

  • Simply beautiful!

  • No words 1:30

  • Using Mozarts music wouldn't cost anything because it's free of charge nowadays, composing original music for a movie is a lot more expensive.

  • @DAkkermann You know very well when Mozart was alive he was paid for composing. The same will be with Preisner 100 years later.

  • Preisner genius .. I can not continue to write .... tears

  • Elzbieta Towarnicka has something magical and mysterious in her voice that makes this piece sound pefect.

  • Makes me cry of emotion.

  • makes my cry

  • SHALOM VERY NICE VIDEOS TOV TODA

  • Absolutelly breathtaking composition of a music and pictures.

And just imagine... Preisner has no musical education, he`s simply a GENIUS !

  • Don`t want to disappoint you, but Van den Budenmayer is a... fake name, a nickname :)

    Presisner too :)

  • @MaximusProteus what are you talking about? XD

  • @XZydrateAnatomyX I`m talking that Van den Budenmayer and Presienr are BOTH nicknames :)

The real name of composer is... Zbigniew Antoni Kowalski, but "Kowalski" is a one of most popular names in Poland, it means more or less "Smith", so he choose some more original nickname(s).

  • @MaximusProteus true, and the reason why this nickname is dutch by origin (van den budenmayer) is simply because he (kowalski) and kieslowski - the director of the dekalog series in which this piece is played - loved the netherlands. In my opinion the biggest honor an artist can give you is write one of his pieces to your name. Being dutch myself, i find it quite an honor, as I think its a pure stroke of genius. Gives me the chills!

  • @b4ssfactory that's not true. The reason is different. and simple-Money.This is part from Double life of Veroniqe. If composer want to use some piece of Mozart for example is expensive..So Preisner created fiction composer van den Budenmaier. It was cheaper.Sorry for ma poor english

  • @MaximusProteus of course, it is made for the purpose of the movie Decalogue 9.

  • @konradmtb

what? This song is form Double vie de Veronique

The scene is when veronique d....

  • @MaximusProteus Van de Budenmayer is the same person as Preissner.

  • @Rosemoths

I never said he isn`t, the point i wanted to make is that... neither Preisner, nor Van den Budenmayer is a real name of composer.

  • @MaximusProteus oh, i wasn't saying you didn't, I was just agreeing with you, because you're right. A lot of people think they're two different people. :)

  • this is just GREAT : )

  • Hardly words for this. The images are perfect.

  • dobrze mnie to uspokoiło

  • fantastic!

  • This piece by Preisner was danced to by the Russian ice dancing pair at the Vancouver Olympics just a couple of days ago. I recognized the music immediately. The Russians won the bronze medal. It is fantastic.

  • Give a link pls...

  • @TheBeerNut1

Do you know their names- those Russian ice dancers ? I would like to see their dance.

  • @SANARIA7 : Their names are Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin. They performed at the "European Championship 2010 FD" as well as the Vancouver Olympics 2010. It was in the "Free Dance" competition. Mostly, they danced to Preisner's music but there is also a small segment in their routine that incorporated the music of Clint Mansell (Requiem For A Dream). Enjoy the performance and let me know what you thought about it.

  • @TheBeerNut1

I saw it. Wonderfull dance. . Russian ice dancers are alwys great.

  • living in Poland is not a struggle for life :/ I live here and it is a normal country. It was difficult to live in Poland during WWII and during the period of communism, but now, since 1989 it's really ok.

  • @dotulla Unless you're gay.

  • @hjaldenon or dumb

  • @dotulla i would really like to see auschwitz, i have heard its really eye opening.

  • @dotulla April revealed that living in Poland is still a struggle , the one question I have to ask is will Poland ever be free? 21 years of independence in 216 years, and soon the 217th year is rapidly approaching. Will the true Polish die out, being replaced by neo-socialist subjects of their former partitioners? Oddly enough, life as somebody of Polish blood is difficult, and that's what makes it Goddamn beautiful. Viva la Europa!

  • @dotulla It's funny how people get an idea in their head, and never really bother to see if it's true, isn't it?

  • @dotulla I think it's harder to live in the US now than it is in some other countries... US Government is the worst.

  • I falling in love in this masterpiece, proud to be polish.

  • @79reynevan Chopin, Preisner, and the visual artist Zdzislaw Beksinski make me wish I was Polish. Sorry to hear about the recent tragedy. :(

    Much respect.

  • @djd904 Sapkowski,Lem,Killar,Kieslowski amd few more;)

  • Se acerca a la divinidad.

  • dekalog was beautiful.... true art

  • mam ciarki... nie mogę się dzisiaj oderwać od tej muzyki

  • muzyka która żyje - bardziej niż życie, które przemija

  • Towarnicka has the most beautiful voice in the world.

  • Zbigniew Preisner said, that he lost belief in human goodness. Why? It is very sad.

  • I think maybe growing up in poland so close after the events of WWII could have something to do with him losing the faith in human goodness. Maybe not though as he was born in 1955 but it could be.

  • May be, because Poland has very tragic history from 1772 to 1989. Now built a new country, new life. Living in Poland is very difficult - it is a real struggle for life every day.
