  • what it's name cartoon?

  • this is cool! :D

did you have to download something or setup to achieve this playback?

    thx

  • As long as netbooks use Intel GPUs, watching full 1080p will be a problem.

This video is a low bit rate non AVCHD file.

Camcorders and Blu-ray use high bit rate AVCH files.

Hence, a Intel GPU will struggle just to show the first few seconds before it crashes.

I personally have given up on trying to optimize a Intel GPU to play 1080p HD files.

Nor do I wish to convert these files into low bit rate (lower quality) MPEG4 files just so I can watch them on netbooks.

    Avoid Intel GPUs.

  • @dinnerandashow

Not entirely true. Nearly all netbooks have an Intel GMA 3150 or GMA 950 on board, which can indeed only decode MPEG2. For those, you are right.

However, this video shows a demonstration of the Intel GMA 500 video chipset, which decodes MPEG4 AVC and does 1080p. The GMA 500 is in a couple of netbooks, like the Asus T91, Asus 1201HA and the Dell Mini 10 and 12.

There's also the Intel GMA 4500MHD that can also do HD decoding. It's for example in the Acer Aspire One 752h netbook.

Some Intels can squeeze out a 1080p video.

But lets face it, add any filters, effects or any post processing and the Intel GPU crashes.

Intel GPUs are absolutely in capable of any descent encoding, might as well just use the slow CPU.

I know, they are small, tack little energy and are cheap.

So they do I suppose have a place for just web surfers.

Well a couple of days ago I made the mistake of buying an Asus Eee PC 1005PE (10 inch netbook) with an Intel GMA 3150. I'm going to return it tomorrow because I want HD playback functionality. Of course I could buy a decent laptop but I really want a 10 or 12 inch netbook, with a low price (400-450 euros max). I'm still not sure which one I should buy, but I'm thinking about buying a Dell mini. Let me know if you have a good alternative. ;-)

  • @Bergen79

    Google "netbook ion".

ion is the Nvidia 9400m GPU.

  • @Bergen79 The Acer 1551-5448 is a great choice, also the HP DM1z with the same neo K625 CPU and ATI HD 4225. Either will play basic games and 1080p videos. Also both include an HDMI port...

  • @Bergen79 never buy samsung

  • @hippievogelei Thanks for the advice. :-) But that was 10 months ago... I have decided back then to buy a Compaq mini netbook with NVIDIA ION gpu and I still love it. HD playback is great (using a DXVA compatible player like Media Player Classic Home Cinema), it can run about 4 hours on a battery, 1366x768 resolution, Windows 7, 250 GB drive, 2 GB memory. Awesome machine for its size! Exact type is Compaq 311c-1150SD.

  • it's really small and thin it's almost like those ultra mobile pc, if they just could bring an nvidia or ati chip in it!,then i'll buy it without a question!,

  • Wait!!!! Intel just released one today. Have a look! in the intel download center

  • Intel is yet to release a better video driver with flash support. I have the z550 2GHz but youtube full hd is stuttering after a while playing. its still very processor intensive, while wmp plays smoothly as seen on this video.

  • It's adobe flash to blame.

Intel has no gma 500 drivers for linux based OS.. bummer

  • Now that Windows 7 is out the P has become a really powerful media player.

On Vista and XP I had a lot of trouble playing any video on youtube...not even talking about a HD one>

With windows 7 i can watch any video with no problems.

Can you imagine what this thing could do with Snow Leopard installed?

(the P is a good portable gadget, but I still love my Mac the most)

  • WTF I CAN'T EVEN GET IT TO PLAY 640X408 IN FULL SCREEN!!! i think it's the processor i have though, only 1.33 ghz lol. acer aspire one 751

  • Definitely not my friend. I have a few videos on my 1.33ghz playing 720p HD.

  • actually, so do i lol. about 2 weeks ago i figured out that intel's update has a typo or something in it. i installed it and i can play 720pHD videos now no problem. youtube also plays in full screen at high quality. i made a video of it.

but before the update, it was just terrible.

  • How does it play youtube hd and hulu full screen? What about movies in iTunes?

  • youtube is processor intensive, so you could have the best graphics card in the world but still not be able to use youtube.

  • Nice!
