  • I love this song. I am at university and I always play it in the background, to help me through the work. Excellent song

  • I prefer the original version of Saylon Dola written by Nigel Hess and performed by Cameleon.

It was used in the serie, The One Game.

  • The original version of Saylon Dola written by Nigel Hess and performed by Cameleon as used in the mini-series The One Game had different, nonsense lyrics. That version has been posted here as well (without the lyrics). In comparing both versions, notice where the phrase "Saylon Dola" first appears in the lyrics. The Gaelic lyrics sung by Maire Brennan here are beautiful, but they are NOT the original lyrics.

  • @drbobdrake the lyrics posted here may not be the original, but they're the lyrics to the russell and Máire version.

  • @sonho1234 Absolutely! I first learned of Máire when I first heard Clannad's Theme from Harry's Game playing over the credits of the U2 film Under a Blood Red Sky. I bought Clannad's Magical Ring album as a result and then all of their albums. It is amazing that one family could produce both Eithne (Enya) and Máire (Moya), two of the most beautiful Celtic voices around!

  • @drbobdrake

Yeah! I love Eithne and Máire, they're fantastic, and the user below, robbimcmillen, he's my friend and his first language is Irish Gaelic and he gave me these lyrics, and I trust him

  • @drbobdrake

yeah! I love Eithne and Máire [= they're gorgeous, and by the way, the user that commented below, robbimcmillen, he's my friend, Gaeilge is his first language and he gave me these lyrics, and I trust him lol

  • @sonho1234 Many people do not know that Máire Ní Bhraonáin (Moya Brennan) and Eithne Ní Bhraonáin (Enya) are sisters in a musical family of nine, and performed together on early Clannad albums. I have never been able to see Clannad or Moya live here in the U.S. Clannad once appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, but they were short on time and so the performance was over the credits and short. Very sad.

  • I agree with the guy who mentioned Maire singing in gibberish... backwards. Still great!!

  • What an incredibly beautiful song that I am hearing for the first time! Love it and thanks for posting it here! The lyrics in Gaeilge and English are appreciated too......

  • OK boys, if the lyrics are a real or faux language, it don't matte one bit. Go back and listen. If Moya wants to sing in Gibberish -- BACKWARDS!!!! -- it's still beautiful.

  • @PRINCE23062003 The lyrics are most definitely not made up! I was born and raised just over a mile from where singer Máire Brennan is originally from. Her first language is Irish and so is mine and she is most definitely singing in that language! End of story!

  • it`s so toughing...tears in my eyes.Thank you for the English translation and for posting it.

    Love from Germany

  • I got a CD and this was a song in it, and I loved it !

Thanks for the translation! Now I know what it meant....

Awesome song ! Love it !

  • The CD could not have been Russel Watson the voice?

  • @hejaleksand yes, it was that CD

  • so beautifull!! Who cares if it;s realy gaelic just enjoy!

  • The lyrics ARE completely made up, i should know, i have the book of the television programme that this comes from and it is written in there. The language is NOT Irish, Welsh, or Scottish Gaelic.

  • They are NOT made up! If you actually listen to the song and read the lyrics (in the more info box) at the same time, you can see that its not made up! God! The book that said that is quite obviously mistaken.

  • @PRINCE23062003: If the lyrics aren't any of the ones you mentioned, what language is it then?

  • @PRINCE23062003 Hi Prince, sorry for a very late reply, I feel I should defend myself here though. Could you inbox me the book title etc. Gaelic is my first language and I write articles in the language. I can promise you that these lyrics are in Gaeilge. Are you sure the publications you mention are authorized? I had a friend (who has written two novels in Irish, and teaches Irish at UCD) look over the transcription and translation, and they are fine to him. Thanks for your time!

  • Beautiful, I had searched for the lyrics and found them before I found the song on You Tube, I have the original on my i-pod but I like this version too.

  • Maire is amazing, I love her to bits, she has inspired me since I was a child and her music with Clannad and alone have seen me through some hard times.

  • And You know I can not understand t En-sister's music absolutely.

  • Definitely Russell's best song!! So wonderful done with Maire Brennan. This is just SO pretty.

Russell also does an excellent cover of "Bridge Over Troubled Waters". :)

  • @TD: Very soothing song. It relaxes the body, and mind, to be in a extremely tranquil state.

  • Very beautiful and deep!

I would like to learn Gaelic!

  • @u2bMODERATOR: Supposedly, Gaelic is practically identical to Hebrew. Maybe RosettaStone has a program available?

  • They do, acutally, it'll set you back $450.00, but I bet it's worth it in the end.

  • @lacelu713: Is that the cost of just one RosettaStone language course? You're right, a little on the stiff side, but if it works all the better. Thanks.

  • For me, this version doesn't quite live up the the one done by Chameleon.

  • thanks for posting this

after seeing moya /clannad again this year

was great but would of loved to see them doing this song together two amazing voice

    thanks
