why didnt run and d just sign with def jam? I know this has probably been answered but if my brother was running def jam why the fuck would I sign with profile? BTW i want one of them DEF JAM RECORDINGS jackets, the burgundy joint with the def jam label on the back lol
This wasn't on the Mr. Magic/Marley Marl Rap Attack show. This was put together by the Latin Rascals and played on 98.7 KISS. Marley never did reel to reel edits. Nonetheless, Marley's show started at 9 and ended at 11. At 11pm, 98.7 KISS would start its show, either featuring Red Alert, Chuck Chillout...and for a while, the Latin Rascals...who used to play on 92.3 WKTU before it went rock. Marley then went to WHBI...weekends 2AM-4AM. Then it was the Awesome 2 from 4AM-5AM. Those were the days.
@InsaneFameNYC LOL! Yes...I remember the DNA show with DJ Hank Love...lol. Hank Love was terrible. Their sound drop was a chick that used to say "ooohhh DNA" and then giggle. I have a few shopping bags filled with old cassettes containing all of these recordings....from 1982 through about 1987...91.5 (Medgar Evers College Radio with DJ Vandy C), 92.3 WKTU, 98.7 KISS, 105.9 WHBI/WNWK and 107.5 WBLS. I used to live for the weekends.
@legalmind2007 Yea 91.5 early evenings, but the best was Jeff "Air" Foss and his radio show P5 on 88.7 WRHU, serious old school electro. One thing I recorded but can't find was when Jam Master Jay was on Mr Magics show and he was scratching with Marley Marl, over a Marley Marl dub track.
@legalmind2007 And on Tuesdays was the P-Fine radio show with all the dopest and newest shit played constantly...I think he was out of Long Island....I remember him playing alot of PE, Skinny Boyz, Heavy D, LL Cool J, Joeski Love and a bunch of others and having interviews and live shows...one live show he had contained Stetsasonic live....DOPE!
I remember when Mr Magic bought his own Air time at WHBI & was the first 2 play Hip Hop exclsively on the Radio. Of course Marley Marl was spinning & they went 2 WBLS 2gether. Respect 2 The Pioneers !!!
I Got The Mother Effen Chills when I heardd this Ish.....It took me back to my highschool daze....Gettin' Nice before class....Giant Boombox in my dufflebag....Mixtapes from the night before cause of all the radio stations mixes...Writing all the lyrics to DMC, and chillin wit my friends and rappin to all these classics.... Brought Back The Memories, Damnnnnnnn......Nice as Hell Right Here....Thanks For Posting......Good STuff, GoOd Stufffffff!!!!!!
<old school B-boy kent ohio! 1984-1989 i danced and did Graf....nothing beats old school thanks to all the real hip hop pioneers and to those who have kept it alive peace and rock on HIP HOP forever!
Excellent post!! I was always out side, and could never catch this to tape the shit off Mr. Magic!! Marley Marl, made me not like the original anymore. Memories of vintage hip hop forever. The My Melody mega mix ,as well as 7 minutes of madness (paid in full remix was bananas as well too!! These young niggas think drake, and weezy is hip hop. Shout out to my niggas 32 and older!!! salute....
@bkaylor2 This is a radio station recording from 1984 of DJ Marley Marl. Back then, only a handful of DJs were scratching, often w/ DIY equipment and techniques. He was one of the pioneers of scratching and rap record production and THE the first DJ to sample a break-beat and reprogram it which completely transformed the sound of hip hop. Every DJ today owes a debt to this guy whether they know it not. Making fun of his "technique" is like making fun of Les Paul for not using a wammy bar.
Regardless of it was Marley that mixed this or the latin rascals. the real DJ in this was Jam Master Jay...RIP Jay...You are gone but NEVER forgotten..
NO DOUBT. THIS IS OLD SKOOL MIXING WHICH WAS DIFFERENT FROM YOU HEAR NOW. SO DON'T GET IT TWISTED, THIS IS MARLEY ON THE RAP ATTACK SHOW FROM BACK IN THE DAY. ALL RESPECT DUE TO MARLEY AND THE JUICE CREW. QUEENS IN EFFECT. PEACE........
@ mindcrime518 What you mean RIP??? Mr Magic's dead???? No WAY!!! I remember back in the day me and a crew of US Marines would roll up the way on the weekends to see our families and would know we wuz close to home when we start pickin' up WBLS & Mr Magic on the Jersey Turnpike.
