question for anyone who knows : how about connecting an aquarium with vivariums ? for example take an aquarium and connect the water parts with a one reptile vivarium and one amphibian vivarium ? and how to best choose animals for these that will not be in conflict with each other ? thanks if you can answer i am a beginner and just looking into this.
space is an issue when mixing species have lots of it. activity time of the animals must also be taken into account. after u have quarantined your animals to ensure they are not going to transmit worms or w/e to eachother. mixing a diurnal terrestrial species with a nocternal terrestrial species with plenty of floor space and hiding places is a good start. try to plan it so they dont have to look at eachother lots of line of sight obstructions and stuff
@phoenixflames44 i think he might need that tho because the water needs to be directed into the waterfall. he could just cover it with some creeping ficus tho. this vid is 3 years old tho the viv probably dosent even look the same now.
you don't have to be rich to have a setup like this, just plan properly and save. also, build it slowly over time. i'm sure this tank wasn't put together over night..
In a tropical set up you don't need to clean beacause often there is small animals, "micro/macro-fauna" that breaks down poop and such. They also eat mould and algea. And the plants also get nutrition from the decomposed poop, and dead animals (like the small ones). Could have explained it better I guess. :P
Probably yes, but I would recommend a higher vivarium for any Rhacodactylus sp. Microorganisms will not hurt your reptile unless it is in bad condition.
you need to make a background out of Great Stuff. then add the plotted plants and the Great Stuff will harden, securing the plants. Coco fiber is then added to make it look natural. google it or check out black jungle terrariums. there are many tutorials on how to do this.
dude...noice. thats beastly skill homie! my vivarium is alot lyk urs exept only 45 galon. and moss died, lol. must have taken u lyk a week or two mann.mine took only 3 days to complete. im working on an underwater vivarium scene now yo... its comin out pretty sick. its guna be for spanish ribbed newts. my other one is for PDfs. little blue ones keep it real
It's a myth that moss likes low light. Blast away with light but don't let it get hot. And ALWAYS keep moist. It will start to turn brown as soon as it dries. Install a spraying system on a timer otherwise you'll be standing there misting all day. Covering the ventilation helps stop moisture from escaping. U need to find the right balance between moisture and ventilation, so just experiment a little.
now 90% plant still alive, some of plant dead, but I can change the plant one by one,
some moss alive, some did't, I am not sure why, maybe the lighting source...I am useing three halides for the vivarium, I think that's the main point why most of plant survive...
Hey man I didnt know you had a youtube vid as well...i saw your viv on the web somewhere and you inspired me to do mine......great work....have you done any new projects?
actually the tank was designed for fishes...I changed it to vivarium without modify the tank, I just add things inside it, so the glass thickness is 12mm, 12 types of plants approximately...
The ONLY complaint I'd have is that you can see that hose hanging down to give you a waterfall. If you cover the hose with silicone and stick dry cocoa bedding to it, it looks just like a root! Otherwise, that's an amazing viv!

have sum wat of a unrelated question. im making a foam background and im goin to press soil onto the foam using GE black Silicone for windows & door. i was wondering if it was safe for my frogs cause it says "Mold and mildew resistant" i've heard that the silicone with fungus and mildew "inhibitors" was not safe but ive heard all kinds of things. it doesnt specifically say that it has those "inhibitors" so is it safe to use?
saweeet..the only thing i would do differant would be to cut down that waterfall hose a bit . but its always easier to nit pic some one elses work what lucky creatures inhabit that viv..
