Clash was very much in the Marxist Socialist mode, their songs were very radical and lashed out about the status quo and the lack of opportunities for British youth. They even adopted the red star of the Italian Red Brigades, a communist subversive group that kidnapped and killed Aldo Moro, a former prime minister.
I liked your video,it was food for thought as I'm sure you meant it to be...I think all your negitive comments are from the US...go figure (as they'd say)
@JoesRamone stalin wasnt a communist. he murdered those who went against him, an action counter to marx's idea of a "classless, stateless society". So please, dont let the flaws of a single man ruin the movement of millions that is marxism.
@krmln321 I am a radical leftist myself, but I can't believe in Communism, after all what it has caused during the years. True, there are many "good" communists out there like Lev Trotsky, but with the likes of Stalin and Mao Zedong leading communistic countries, the image of communism has been spoiled. And no, I am not saying that marxism is a bad thing, it's everything else. It's just the people who "use" communism the wrong way that piss me off.
@TheClashGreenday4EVr Well "Sandinista!" is an homage to marxist sud-american groups. They weren't communist, but they were not against this ideology.
@TheClashGreenday4EVr not entirely true. strummer wore a shirt with the red army faction insignia on it. keep in mind the red army faction was a communist organisation advocating the transformation of west germany from a capitalist to a communist nation.
@TheClashGreenday4EVr Joe Strummer was a Socialist, you know. They were/are all socialists! I think that just made their music that much better, there's no better feeling than when a band plays incredible music, but also speaks out for your political beliefs. Damn near euphoria!
@dons123111 I don't think you've got you're facts straight. You're speaking as if though every socialist nation are all the same. I, for instance, am a pacifist, and against the military. Yet I am very much a socialist. I have the Norwegian Socialist party "Rødt" (Red) behind me as well. Socialism as an ideology does not have mandatory military draft, but some nations do. Also, "The Call Up" is a mighty fine song! :)
@JoeyRamonerulz I don't know of any socialist nation that is all volunteers, can you name me one? Alot of Punk Rock were anarchists. This video is a lie..The Clash hated police..every socialist nation now loves police...
@JoeyRamonerulz wrong....they weren't socialists, they were anarchists.. listen to more of their songs, they hated cops...and every socialist nation has cops..name me one that doesn't. Marx and engels were theorists, and never started any nation..
@TheClashGreenday4EVr That being said though, I am also a socialist. But like the Clash (and any other decent human being) I am against the communism represented by the former Soviet Union and any other so-called communist countries that oppress their people. Soviet propaganda + the Clash do not go together.
@TheClashGreenday4EVr you are the ignorant here.. because you associate communism with stalinism. yeah the uploader is idiot. clash has nothing to do with stalinism. but they were leftists. they were true communists. listen to the interviews of joe strummer..
@TheClashGreenday4EVr I wouldn't say they were anti-communist? They supported tons of socialist, and communist uprisings and regimes in the South and East. Perhaps they were against stalinism or maoism, but trust me most communists now-a-days are against the totalitarian doctrines like those.
You have good taste in music. But you appear to be historically and politically illiterate. Please stop contaminating these great songs with the brown fecal cloud of your ignorance.
Lazy ass communist, all you want is other people to support your lazy ass drug habit lifestyles!! FUCK YOU, lazy motherfuckers!!!

Stalin personally hunted down all the other keepers of the power who stood in his way after the WWII, not magnificent.
And China still pretty much lacks the freedom of speech! Definetely not magnificent!
Please leave the Clash out of your communistic propaganda, would you?

@JoeyRamonerulz wrong...Socialists have mandatory military draft. The Clash wrote a song called Don't Heed the Call Up, that was against the draft.
