The rushed tempo is only that they so they can fit the singers in also. In my band, we play this song way slower only because there is no singing. Also when they play it this fast you cant enjoy the grace notes =/. But the singing does make a beautiful angelican effect
I suspect that the rather hurried tempo has to do with the fact that these are not professionals but amateurs, and I have often noticed that it is better to start just a little faster with amateurs, as things will eventually slow down. However, I have to admit that it does seem more like Elsa's Race to the Cathedral, at least at first, and it is sad to hear the music so rushed at first. Anyway, maybe the conductor started a little faster because of adrenalin in his system...
Por qué no se respetan los idiomas originales de las obras? Cambia totalmente su sonoridad, pésima costumbre de la gente de habla inglesa, o será porque son limitados para pronunciar otros idiomas? O simple soberbia, quizás...
A nice presentation, however will agree that it starts off like Elsa's run through the Cathedral. As a previous band director who has worked with this score it is a bit too fast. If you listen to the oboe and clarinet solo you can see the speed is incorrect. Nevertheless it does slow toward the end and all the participants performed in an excellent manner.
I dont get the piano either, that aside , it's far too fast, Elsa might be breaking in a new pair of nikes as it does eventually get down to a good speed or maybe the conductor has just run out of steam!!
The audio is severely compressed--sounds like they ran it through a program like audition and ran dynamic processing. I suspect they tried to "improve" on what they picked up from their perch in the balcony. And yes it is a processional, but that doesn't mean slow. Pick a nice walking pace and that's how fast it should go. Elsa's not wandering along, she's heading to her wedding. A bit slower would be nice, but not the usual wind ensemble version "Funeral Processional".
This is on of the most beautiful pieces of music written. Regrettably sounds more like "Elsa's March to the Cathedral" What's the Hurry! She marries the guy! Sez so in Act III scene one - Prelude.
I just recently played this at symphony hall..and was it an awesome experience...especially the end...but this is the first time hearing it fully performed by orchestra and chorus and it sounds amazing ...great job wagner
As much as I love the wind ensemble arrangement of Elsa's, the full orchestral and choral original (well, *almost* :) is a truly astounding experience.
I say "almost" because right near the climax as the brass are marching down those half steps and the choir resolves to unison, in the opera Telarmund and Ortrud appear and the procession is interrupted for a few minutes, then does a brief reprise that finally allows the music to climax. Trust me, its cool. :)

I think they did a nice job. Lots of mistakes to be sure, but not bad for college kids. Some of you guys must be fun at parties...

This sounded extremely good to me. I don't understand the nit-picking - although I've noticed Wagnerites are notorious nit-pickers.

This seems so fast and loud all the time...really takes away from the climax of the work =(

This full orchestra/choir just doesn't get me like the wind ensemble or solo piano mediums do.
I can't really say why, it just seems too much,
